Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

TEAMS: Rd 06 vs Gold Coast

Recommended Posts

Hunt:   Was woeful against the Tiges and barely gave a yelp.  Had to go.  Too much of a gap between his best and worst right now and far too often it's the latter.  Appears to be at the crossroads.

Smith:  wiithout any Casey to gauge his form / improvement from i can't see how he returns to this line up this year unless we get to the last few rounds of another wasted season and wish to experiment with him up forward prior to delisting.

Tomo:   He aint no wingman sorry.    I would be looking to re-engineer as a CHF (if Weid and Brown flop) or CHB to allow May to go forward (if Weid and Brown flop).  Fritschkreig & Bennell have his measure on the opposite wing to Langdon.  Potential bust looming if he cant make it as a CHB or CHF imo.

Rivers:  Unlucky.  Thought Lockhart may have gone before Rivers.  Probably being managed though and might be better for the rest in the medium term.

As for the Ins:   not bad but would have replaced Melk with Brown, Jackson or Bedford (a scarecrow might do a better job at this point).  Unless we are switching say Clarry or Harmes into a mainly forward role in this match he really needs to be asked to step up and contribute out of the middle.  Perform this week in this role or sayonara baby.

How he maintains his spot after the last few weeks AND plays forward (assuming he does) is a bit spooky really.  Has a few mates but hardly given a yelp so far.

Speaking of mates...what the hec has happened to Salem?  Needs a major rocket / tap on the shoulder.  I'd be bringing in ANB for Salem asap.  Bloke has dropped off a cliff the last 8 matches or so.  A shadow of what he showed in glimpses a season or two back.

Don't mind the Ins / Outs aside from Rivers but plenty of room for improvement and a few bog ordinary others lucky to have escaped unscathed.

Tomlinson quite stiff to miss but he hasn't been anywhere near where I think we expected him to be.

Could O'mac coming in possibly mean my prediction/desire to see Steven May in the forward line come true?

No CHB is Mays spot and he will attack from there with results.

We will have heart issues probably with Oscar on King but  as a goalkeeper he knows his job and so I also hope he takes the game on.

Look for Lever to shine also now that 3 talls are there and Smith won't get in the road of everyone!

Small sample size but you wouldn’t have him in your best bets list based on form. When you take the cash you have to perform he hasn’t. Massive concern he been dropped doesn’t mean it can’t be turned around but very difficult in a COVID year.

We'll punch the living suitcases out of Gold Coast this week and win by four goals. We couldn't do that against Geelong or Richmond because they were much more experienced as well as you need skill and brute force to beat teams like that. Night game, slippery ball , coach under pressure, we'll be fine. The question is can we continue that type of footy in the ensuing weeks?

The changes are spot on. AvB wasn't bad last week. Third game in a row and he will make an impact.

The Weed coming back only needs to compete in the air and pluck a few. Much better structure.

Fritta, Hannan, Kozzie and Melksham need to hit contest at speed.

Backline is slower but it won't matter this week.

Midfield will dominate for first time this year.

Carn the f'ckn Dees!

He has plenty of chance at redemption, he'll just have nobody to kick it to up forward as the cash we've splurged on him wasn't used to entice any marking target last year, and might'nt this year. And these conversations have been had on this forum for 10 months, not just after 2 bad games.

Could Craig Jennings advise be heeded?

Gawn to play more defensive like late 2018

Weid CHF and to ruck forward of centre

TMac FF

Would like to see Salem more forward of HB.

Wouldn't mind seeing Brayshaw off HB, could play either side.

I agree with you re Viney's game last week. He looks as if he is off the pace fitness wise and is not sticking tackles or staying anywhere defensively near his man. Also is not getting to contests as he should.

I gave him one more week.

He (JV)fellover about 6 times and lost the ball or passed under hurry so he wasn't caught . No poise or skill displayed.

By far the best team we have picked all year, but still a few issues. At least we are heading in the right direction.

Tomlinson and Hunt both pay the price for some really weak efforts at the contest last week. I thought Tomlinson was okay against Geelong, but he was poor against Richmond. On that basis, Melksham should have been first one out, but he is clearly a protected species.

McDonald never should have been dropped and our defensive structure works much better with him there. I would have given Smith a couple of weeks playing forward, but maybe that will come later in the season.

Good to see Bennell back, although I'm not sure we can have both he and Vandenberg playing limited minutes without causing issues elsewhere.

I've been calling for a second tall forward all year - finally Goodwin gets it (that's why he gets paid the big $$). I'm no fan of Weideman, but we need another big body in the forward line and there aren't many options.

Jetta is the only inclusion I'm not thrilled with. Rivers struggled last week, but has much greater value long term than Jetta does.

I think OMac is a good selection this week - both Sexton and King are strong overhead marks and we need two lockdown defenders and Lever intercepting as much as possible.

I'd like to see Viney and Hugh Greenwood go head to head in the guts. Give Clarry a bit of space to roam. Not sure Vanders on a wing is a good match for Weller or Brandon Ellis.

As with most, very happy with Weid in the team as a 2nd tall, and can't wait to see both Kossie and Bennell in the same forward line.

Congrats to Fritter on his 50th game.

Can’t believe AVB gets another game. Tomlinson is obviously another recruitment bust. Bah humbug!

AVB needs to get more of the ball and dispose of it to advantage quicker than he does. He gets caught because he sometimes takes an eternity to kick it.

Votes? You're not serious are you? The selection committee is there to facilitate discussion, the coach makes the final call.

Melksham has to be on his last chance this week.

His game was pathetic against the Tigers and worse against the Cats, where he cost us several goals.

He is in on reputation and not form.

now that Goody has brought in two taller options in OMac and Weideman at either end of the ground, whats the chances its wet and slippery Saturday night and suits a smaller team like the one we've been playing up to now?  the way this years been going for us i'd say it's almost a certainty.

With OMac and Weid in, I’d like to see Max drift and rest deep forward so we have a valid long bomb option when the Suns apply a heavy flood. Reckon AvB plays wing in Tomlinsons spot. Be rotating Melksham / Bennell/ Kozzie through the midfield at times to add spark and raw agile talent.

the fact we’re injury free, that the core team are starting to string together three games in a row, bodes well for more cohesion and connection.

Looking forward  to this one.

go Demons.

I just couldn't imagine Smith getting a game after last week. He was murdered by Riewoldt (not his fault as Riewoldt is a class above and he should never have been put on him to begin with), made crucial turnovers and was beaten in the contest often. He's just not a footballer for mine, not yet anyway. Id rather see him play forward where at least he can use his leap and speed to get to the footy to create an option but I guess that might come later in the year.

Good selections, I would have like to see Jones come in for Vandenberg as well but I guess 4 changes is a lot. With these selections Goodwin has flagged a return to a more traditional structure and has indicated that his "small ball" has been abandoned. Let's see how it plays out

Interested to see who gets the other wing with Tomlinson out - I would like Salem there but it will probably be Brayshaw.

Smith has been putrid but my guess he has been told to 'take the game on' and spoil at every opportunity. Problem is he has no idea how to defend.

Leaves his man at the wrong time, flies when there are already 3 going up, fails to kill the ball when he does.

He seems like a neat kick and is quite quick and athletic but for the moment you'd think fwd is where he has to be in order to stop being a liabillty

I didn't realise it was an argument about Petracca v OMac?

My point was that OMac is a lot better kick than most give him credit for. That's it, full stop.

Again, the comparison to Petracca was yours.  If you're not happy with that one given their relative playing positions, then compare him to pretty much any other defender in the game, KPP or otherwise. Stacks up against all of them too.

OMac's kicking is his best attribute.

While the changes look good on the basis of individual talent, I'm trying to work out who replaces Tomlinson on the wing.

I assume Jetta and O McDonald will seamlessly replace the roles played by Rivers and Smith respectively.

Arguably, Weideman is a tall replacing a smaller forward in Hunt, although one could equally argue that Bennell is Hunt's replacement. Either way, Weideman comes in for a small or smallish forward. It seems unlikely that Bennell will have the fitness base to play on the wing. Ditto vandenBerg and probably Hannan. The seems to leave Melksham, Harmes or one of the midfielders such as Brayshaw to take Tomlinson's role.

Or maybe I'm overthinking it and as listed, vandenBerg plays wing with others helping out when he needs a break.

Agree with Melksham sentiment but he must play with our so called "Brand" or strategy or

He is the only player that can regularly kick goals from 50 on the run, hoping the 2nd tall can bring him more into the game rather than he dominating a game on his own. He will rely on the link up play and getting into dangerous spaces. Not much of this was afforded to him in past weeks. His effort must lift.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer.
