Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The idea is sound.  Unless Weideman comes on, or Jackson shows vast improvement in the coming weeks, then you would assume we would be in the market for a key forward.

They've clearly just put 2 and 2 together to make 5 with Daniher - tall forward, out of contract, we need one - but you would assume that if Daniher goes anywhere then it will be interstate.  Having said that, I can't see the club being interested.

Who else is there that is a legit target?  That might open up as the season progresses, but unless something drastic changes, you would expect us to chase someone in the off season.

This. Allegedly Daniher's motivation to move to Sydney is to leave the Melbourne bubble (somewhat ironic at the moment). I can't see him being interested in moving to another Melbourne-based team. He might as well stay at Essendon, which is what I still think will happen.

You could get John Coleman back and he would even struggle the way the ball is delivered into the scoring zone.

He won't be on big $ so we can afford him.  Being an RFA and technically no need to trade.

As an RFA Ess will match whatever $ offer is made as likely will only get a 2nd rnd compo pick for him so will force a trade.  So the problem as I see it is their tough line on trades.

Last year they demanded a top 10 pick plus a player from Sydney (Heeney or the like) Sydney didn't bite and nothing happened.  They will most likely demand Petracca or Oliver as part of a package.

Anyone prepared to do that trade?  Not me.

Not that I am advocating to go after him, but if he hasn’t played then they won’t match offers.

I actully looked at the thread title and assume we were chasing Neal for some inspiration.

Daniher's a genuine gun on his day. His 2017 was excellent.

We ought to go hard at Ben Brown who's currently out of form and quibbling over a contract with North.

And he will be effectively 3 years out of the game by next season.

Massive pass from me.

They will do what Crows did with Dangerfield.  Say they will match and force Geelong to the negotiating table to get better than the AFL compo pick.  No-one ever expected the Crows to go thru with the 'threat'.

Ess will do it so they can play tough guy, beat their chests and show their members that they won't let him go cheaply.  That is how they play the game.  And if he did choose us Ess know we pay more than we want.

And, I'm also not a fan of JD.  He wants to leave the state.

I think he will go to the Swans if he looks like being able to play again.

As I said, Essendon can't really afford to match an offer and then have him possibly not play.

With slightly smaller lists and with the carry on from last year, I don't think they can go through it again with him.

If however he gets back and plays well, they might revert again to their normal hardball trading approach, that they are so renowned for.

I think if Lever gets through a whole season we are yet to see his best, I to would say yes to Daniher at the right price and if he's fit. Would love to give it to some essendon supporting mates I know. He will straighten us up be a real focal point and allow big Tom to play his best as the second tall

IMO Daniher being a terrible set shot is mostly a demonland myth. I suspect it mostly comes from the game against us where he kicked 1.6 or something a few years ago.

He's converting at 58% over his career - not great, but not awful either.

A fit Daniher would be our best forward by such a long way it's not funny.

A bloke taking marks and kicking 3.5, 2.6 or 4.4 is a massive improvement  on a ball being slingshot up the ground from No one taking marks. Defending kick outs an improvement.

And as one of the best i50 number teams, he'd get way more practice to mark and kick for goal than he ever did at EFC

Let's just assume that Daniher gets over all his injuries and mental demons.

Why in the heck would he want to go from a much bigger club that has a much more exciting game style to a club with a coach almost as incompetent as Dan the Man?

As a protest because Dan is an Essendon supporter?

You might be correct with the confirmation bias but since Rd 1 2018 his accuracy is 43% for set shots and 31% for general play

He's a terrible kick for goal

TMac is 63/60

JHunt is 58/58

Yep.

We dont really have a choice, do we Wise? If the current group doesnt show some dramatic improvement before seasons end, we cant possibly just sit around and be inactive about our forward issues. Im not including LJ in that comment. The kid is just a pup and has to be given time to develop before we destroy his confidence with our shocking delivery.

if we dont at least ask the question about Fugly, MFC have given up on improving. When fit (which is obviously not that often) this bloke is miles ahead of anything we currently have in the Fwd 50.

I am so desperate for improvement i just advocated for an injury-ridden Essendon player. Good Lord what is wrong with me?

Someone please slap me.

The only problems I see with Daniher are that he wants to go interstate if he were to move on from the Bombers, and that he is horribly injury prone.  Knowing our luck we'll recruit him and we won't be able to get the bloke on the park and then every Melbourne fan will cry for eternity, if they aren't already.

I think we'll look not only our tall forward stocks come seasons end (and if Weideman shows little progression again, do we look to move him on?), but our forward structure in general, as what we have right now isn't working.  I think we've got the talent to turn things around, but it's getting things right both inside 50 and further up the ground that will see us improve.  If we can't then, well, we know where we'll end up.

He said that because it's so frowned upon in our game to just say "I'd like to play anywhere other than the joke of a club I play for", or "I'd have stayed but those other guys offered me waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more money". Players have no choice but to offer up BS excuses or they get lynched.

Bit like when Mitch Clark was desperate to get to Perth, until suddenly he wasn't.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
