Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

How bad is this year?

Recommended Posts

This season is so poor that there's a very real possibility we will be handing over Pick 1 in the draft to North Melbourne. That would be the ultimate embarrassment and clearest possible evidence of a stuff up.

FWIW, from sources within and close to the club, I'm also hearing plenty about board changes. Board and leaders are unsure if issue is coaches or players. Also hearing that the coaches are unhappy with a certain "clique" of players who appear to be embedding poor behaviors into other more impressionable team mates. We are legitimately back to Neeld era culture of division.

Things are not good internally at the moment. I admire positivity of some supporters, but fact is we are a long way off the pace and have issues as a club we need to address before we can ever dream of becoming successful onfield again.

Yeah, I'm not saying it's something I'm keen on or that it'll be helpful, but there are some very passionate and powerful Melbourne people who are as equally frustrated at the moment as some supporters and are seriously considering taking action from what I've heard.

To be fair, it's far more than 4 games though. It's as bad a 18 months as we've ever experienced, and that gets lumped onto the decades of frustration whether we like it or not.

The fact we haven't consistently performed since the 60s is the reason this kind of thing is never that far away.

Sure, I hear you.

Maybe we should start distributing testosterone tablets to the very passionate and powerful so they can feel better without throwing the baby out with the bathwater, and leaving us all further away from the ultimate success than we already are.

I find it hard to argue with people who purposefully distort their use of data to their predetermined positions.

If you're going to quote Goodwin's record as backing your position, at least have the honesty to use all of his record at Melbourne, which is (33–36–0) (W-L-D) from 2017-2019.

And the only coach of our past 4 or more, to take us into finals...

Lots went wrong last year, much has been done to address it, only some of it was Goodwins responsibility.

So this year, we are 4 games into weird season having played 3 of the top 5 teams from last year, we sit 1-3...

IN MY OPINION - it is not the time to pull down the house.

You don’t have to argue with me

Goodwin got smashed in the Prelim Final completely ( Remember the score at Halftime)

Since then not much has changed...

What was everyone expectation this season/ Top 8 top 4??? We have lost 2 games to the last 3 premiership teams. Played the only away game against WCE in Perth so far. Lost 1 game to last years minor premiers. We havnt been beaten with back to back 100 point losses. Should have / could have won the last 2 games playing terrible and gifting goals with poor skill and decision making. I would rather play cr@p and just loose to these team knowing we can get better than play our best and still loose. A lot of people joining in on the media pile on.

You can but laugh.

Personally i do not understand what people get from deliberately trying to wind others up on an internet forum. Particularly one such as the demonland forum where people actually share and care about a common passion.

Even more inexplicable winding people up at point in time where everyone is at various stages of frustration about where our club is at.

But each to their own.

But leaving that aside how you could post this comment in a thread that you have only visited (despite or more likely because of the thread title) to bag the so called 'perpetual whinegers (sic) and whiners' completely defies my sense of understanding what motivates some people.

I mean is it possible to be any more hypocritical/ What would you like people to add? Don't answer. I know the answer and that is to respond to your baiting. Which of course i have just done.

But for the last time. I'm done with reading your comments and unpleasant interest in upsetting people. There is enough angst in the world at the moment without reading the comments of an adult who enjoys upsetting people for his own amusement.

So i'll take the mod's adice and yours for that matter and put you on ignore. And this time for good.

And all sarcasm aside (as i know i can default to that) can i sincerely ask other posters who choose to engage with Saty's baiting to not quote him or if responding to a particular comment perhaps deleting all but the first couple of words so it is clear what the post is referring to. Thanks in advance

IMO it is worse than last year we played better last year with half the squad injured or no pre season. Last year we were in front or close in a lot of games and ran out of steam in the last quarter. This Year we are poor from the start.

1. 1965-1986 - lost years

2. 1987 - cruelled by a siren

3. 1990 - a winnable year (beaten by a draw that cost us momentum)

4.1994 - a winnable year (beaten by an AFL created super team)

5.1998 - a winnable year (we beat crows by 48 points but couldn't get another chance)

2020 doesn't rate in this group.

Top 8 was my expectation, anything less would render a fail in my books. As to who we have lost to, none of the teams who have beaten us were/are setting the world on fire and our only win we literally fell across the line after squandering a 42 point lead.

But beyond that what is demoralising me when we lose is it's the same mistakes every week. We give up easy goals in the same way in a stretch that costs us the game. We look impotent in the forward line. Our skills cost us chances of getting back into the game.

We will need to go on the mother of all run of wins to salvage this season.

Geelong were a player down for most of the game. Richmond, too. And the skills on display were horrid.

It was two top teams that barely left second gear. Geelong should have been further ahead than it was. Richmond, too.

If not for some solid defensive synergy we'd have lost both by 8+ goals such was the gap in effectiveness and structure around the ground.

Well the current lot have not exactly set the world on fire. If These results continue the board should stand down and give someone else a go. It will be time.

I presume the OP's title is asking how bad we are now compared to previous years or maybe to other clubs.  IMO it is madness to assume either question can be sensibly answered yet (although it is clear we are not good).

Did anyone else see the photo of the lockdown towers this morning on social media. The handmade signs with the word “help” were replaced with words “sack Goodwin”.
Full marks to whoever came up with that. Bloody hilarious.

This year we have played 4 games with

  • 3 of them against last years top 5 (Geelong #1, Richmond #3 and Premier, Westcoast #5) we've lost all 3.
  • 1 game against one of the other 12 teams (i.e. not in the top 5) in Carlton which we won.

So too soon to panic, as I'd not have rated us top 5 coming into 2020, but would like to think we can squeeze into the top 8 once the season's complete.

Beat Suns and Hawks, and we are 3:3 with only 2 of top 5 to play in the 11 remaining games, so its doable.

... and here we are. Bounce for all the Henny penny fans bemoaning that the sky was falling... @Engorged Onion ?

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
