Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Like most on here are saying COVID-19 has basically saved Goodwins coaching career

How can you say that, we had the players cherry ripe fit with the new fitness guru and then a sort of Rnd 1,  under the knowledge of a cancelled season, and then nothing but lock-down and and players distanced and at home.   Loss of fitness and regular contact with one another at training.

And then it gets worse, the AFL shortens the Qtrs of the game we had trained specifically for.

Truth is,  we just don't know how our team would be going,  if none of this CoVid19 had happened.

I think Clarkson is nothing more than wishful thinking.  You can talk all you like about how everyone is for sale, and making godfather offers but he's shown no sign of dissatisfaction at the Hawks, and they can clearly afford to outmatch any offer we make - I suspect they'd sack their entire football department before they'd lose him.  We'd be more likely to entice Paul Roos back than have any chance of getting Clarkson.

Lyon is realistic, and if he could get us back into the eight I think I could hold my breath and suffer through his "style".  Another few losses and I might even start entertaining the idea of Brad S....no, I'm not ready for that yet.

I do not share your enthusiasm for the negative,  of how things might have been in the early part of the season.

Form over the next 6 weeks,  I reckon will show us where we are.

Clarkson is a very good coach, perhaps the greatest ever, but our club is nowhere near strong enough and united enough to follow his lead.

He is an uncompromising leader and we seem to have a lot of people happy to just feather their own nests and say they are part of an AFL club. Not sure it’s a good match.

Getting Clarko would cost a hell of a lot more than just his wage, because we’d need to give him the best people to help him get the job done.

I think we need someone in between Clarko and Goody for experience, with a strong and experienced group of assistants. We don’t have much on field leadership at all, certainly none that’s tasted success and it costs us dearly.

Geelong, Hawthorn and Collingwood in recent times have at least one superstar, usually more, but they also have half a dozen senior players that are almost guaranteed to win their position for the day and drive the standards/expectations for everyone else to follow.

I respect your view here SWYL however do you realistically think our small membership will increase enough to assist in paying for a so called gun coach. I don't think so.

Rubbish.

Someone between Clarkson & Goodwin you suggest? Rather large parameter. We have been down that road....

Unless Goodwin gets his act together ( and he has this year)

We need the best available, otherwise we get what we pay for.
56 years of 2nd Best...

The money can be raised, those that are not happy can go...

I want to Win in September...

It’s not like there’s a whole lot of AFL coaches waiting in the wings? So yes, my parameters are broad, but probably only gives half a dozen actual options.

The best coach won’t immediately change this list, the way the club is run or suddenly give us industry leading facilities.

What can we offer that would possibly convince Clarko or someone else of that caliber?

BW with that attitude we may as well just shut up the shop and walk away

This Club offers the biggest challenge within the AFL

I know it's pessimistic, but there's very little to suggest anything different will happen.

There's a very long and deeply ingrained history of zero success

Well aware of that mate. 50 years of it for me.
That’s why it has to change. Big Change otherwise it will die.
We had big change in PJ and Roosy. But it wasn’t long enough

I really like Goodwin good media preformer and the players seem to love him, if this doesn't work we have to get a experienced coach of the Clarkson mould, I'd go hard for Woosha who's on his way out of the bummers. GET his own team in and say your not leaving till you've won a flag. No 3 year succession rubbish you do the full job.

This has to be McClure.....

If he were coaching a European Football team eg. Liverpool, Man City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus etc. he would have been gone a long time ago.

Shoot first and ask questions later, if it continues for the next month the club really has no choice but to give him the flick.

Not sure if he wants to be a coach but the man i would be chasing would be Luke Hodge.

If I were a member of the board I would be encouraging us to give Simon a one-year contract extension. And I agree right now that the club is rotten. In 2017/18 he instituted a bold and aggressive game-plan - with the courage to go against the Paul Roos/Ross Lyon grain - based on in my reading at the time the footballing trends and getting ahead of the game, to find that fine line of difference in an increasingly tight competition. [censored] 6-6-6 and the AFL.

Drill it into a young squad and we would reap the rewards when it was ingrained. We leaked a bit, and aggressively traded to plug those holes. Kudos. No-one could foresee our future forward-line impotence at the time, looking at you Tomald and Jake. I had certain doubts about it but I'm still not sure if that game-plan could ever succeed or not over the long run, because the injury [censored] of 2019 and loss of confidence and now increasing pressure on the club has led to Simon putting his guns back in the holster.

He's now juggling declining seniors with fan expectations and our game-style is a compromised nothing mess. We don't have a recognisable brand, in Simon's words. We did in 2017/18. Give him another year. Put it on his shoulders. Do what you want Simon. Ignore the noise and get our boys firing again. Go gung-ho. TL/DR: Lyon isn't the answer. Roos got us nowhere. Simon Goodwin will lead us to a flag if we let him. But I'm afraid you people will [censored] that up, once again.

Can't coach, Stubborn, bereft of ideas how to fix straightforward issues

Keep going jnrmac. How would you coach the club to win a flag? How do you feel about Hardwick and Buckley? My point is that we should back in Goodwin to chase his original plan, rather than undermining it and ending up with a nothing middle ground. And repeating. And repeating. And repeating. What would you do? Fix our club.

Without Riewoldt & Goddard, he would have done nought.

And he was never able to get CHF  functioning.  that is what cost him the flag.  Oh, and not enough speed on the wings.

He persisted with milne as the main scorer for far too long, in his tenure.

Ring any bells anyone.?

Now what has he done for Freo.?  Well he got them off the bottom,  and back again, didn't he.

A couple of sliding door moments:

- In the 2005 Grand Final, Leo Barry doesn't take that mark, WCE kick the sealer, and Roos never becomes a Premiership coach

- In the 2010 Grand Final, the ball bounces the way it would 9 out of 10 times and Milne kicks the sealer.

If this all happened, Roos' public profile would be a smidgen of what it is now - he wouldn't be regarded as a football God, and perhaps, just perhaps, Ross Lyon might be. .

First line is a very strange argument.   What would Hardwick have done without Martin and Riewoldt?

As for what did he do for Freo  -  4 straight finals appearances including a Grand Final.  Something the MFC hasn't done since 1987-1991, even leaving out the Grand Final part.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
