Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What has happened to Clayton Oliver?

Like every other player on the list, he has not developed. Kicks and handballs off balance and should spend a week out of the side

His lack of development is an enditment on all of our coaches, and we have enough of them.

Needs to stick his tackles, run harder, stop stepping back into traffic, start absorbing tackles with forward momentum and hit a target by foot.

Oliver is ticking along ok. Went head to head with Cripps when we played Carlton and did some nice defensive work. So I think Oliver is passing the grade. However, he does play scared, which is frustrating to watch because he moves the ball onto the next bloke - like a hot spud. He could do with some rounds in the boxing ring just to become aware of that contact, and psychologically get over that fear, because he is a star and its a shame to see him go to waste.

Lazy. One way runner. Needs a huge kick up the bum. Should be dropped

Definitely too valuable to exclude, but a kick up the bum is necessary for 'time and again' long bombs rushed the the Hope Fairy. Clarry has lost his cool this year, so far. Needs a transfer to a wing / flank position to get his mojo back and to better sight the game. An opportunity to two-way run and carry would also be useful.

I'm not entirely sure of the dates but is there a correlation between a number of our players' development stagnating and Brendan McCartney leaving the club?

I'm over him. We thought we had a first class midfielder but the truth is that he is miles behind the best in the AFL. Cripps, Dangerfield, O'Neil, Fyfe, Martin, Mitchell, Pendlebury, Merritt, Cotchin, Rowell, Boak, Cunnington, Kelly... it seems like most clubs have a better midfield than Oliver. Time to shake him up or move him on.

Disagree that he's currently lazy. Watch the last few games again and specifically watch him, he's busting his gut trying to put pressure on.

His disposal and decision making though, geez, would be close to our worst so far this year.

Garbage

No, he is  working hard and is the LAST PLAYER I WOULD DROP

Viney and Brayshaw need to go before him

The answer of course is to the thread is  ..... The coach!

Lets look at Petracca.    We gave him the shytes for a season, and got into him to get fitter, and to stop believing his own media hype.

What did he do after tall that pressure.

He woke up, is what he did.

He's gotten fitter,  lost some weight,  and no doubt is eating better,  and generally looks in better shape;  and his footy is starting to get better, once more.  HE is back on-track.

Oliver is now just the same as the old Petracca was.

He thinks he's much better than what he really is. he's undisciplined and hes on te way to wasting his talents.

It's not the coaches, who are pumping up their heads with Nitrous Oxide.

He performed best when Brendan McCartney was overseeing his development.

People might bag McCartney, but he told players how it was!

Argh, good point.!  Yeah, I didn't think of that.

It has been since then.

Oliver looks like a lazy undisciplined shadow of himself.

Well said,

He along with Petracca & Gawn are our only above average players

it’s the dozen players that can’t even get the ball that I’d be worried about

His inability to hit a target by foot is a massive reason we're struggling. Massive, massive problem.

We're not going to drop him, not after one bad game, so like the majority of our players, our future depends on him working hard to improve his mistakes.

How many possesions today VS Viney?? and at EFFICIENCY??

Drop Oliver ??? Oh yeah I  might win tattslotto this week

How can you even entertain it??

DROP THE COACH would be nearer to the piont!

Of course hes talented, but he is careless, undisciplined.

He has to be dropped to shake him up,   Or he has to be given a job to do,  chasing an opposition forward around, to learn to be accountable.

He gets the ball, but panics.  He should be encouraged to get a few holding the balls against him and take a little more time.  Learn to take the tackle.  Get ball/panic disposal puts other players in terrible positions or simply costs us possession.  His handball to Smith’s boots was terrible, and his kick in the middle was unbelievably poor.  Add to all the other moments, it must be heartbreaking to work so hard just for him to give it up.

I think he has read his own press.  Needs to do better with ball in hand.

One bad game, this has been going on all season and at least part of last.   His missing targets by hand and foot has been happening for a looong time.

But we supporters have turned a blind eye to it ;  its just that its getting worse,  and some of us are talking about it more,  which brings it to others attention.

It's so bad now, that it need to be attended to.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
