Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It's the gameplan: instant (kamikaze) handball; not to the best OPTION, not to the first OPTION, but to anything that resembles Blue n Red.  We "get rid of the ball" other teams use the ball!!!

We also don't lead, and more importantly honour a lead or even movement. Would love someone to count how many kicks went to a genuinely moving target.  This demonstrate we don't have the courage to take the right option when it presents, preferring a safer option of someone 20 meters on their own.

Forwards prefer leading back towards goals (an easier option than leading up), but then again we rarely spot up a leading forward so maybe they are justified.

We are however very good a waving and pointing!!!

I reckon you could've stopped at anything.

Listened to the podcast with Glenn Bartlett during the week.

Thought he was doing ok till he scoffed at the question about there being pressure on Goody considering our garbage record over the past 18 months. Came across as arrogant and dismissive of the growing anger from the supporter base.

The excuse for last year was injuries etc. An aberration they said. With the best injury run I can ever remember we look to have given north a top 3 pick while managing to go backwards on even last years form.

There is something unfixable about this club. Spent the day concreting and only remembered the game was on a few minutes ago. Realised the best way to spend my weekends was Demon free. Think I will take that approach every week now. The club has a mountain of a task to retain my 3 memberships next year. Im sure i wont be the only one.

That annoyed me too, but I think his scoff was more along the lines of "coaches/footy departments/clubs are always under pressure"

They must know the supporters are fuming at the moment. Cost them $500 today because if we won I reckon I would've bought 2 of those footy jumpers they're flogging. Not holding back out if spite, just don't feel the impetus to part with my cash when I'm feeling so disheartened with the club.

Of course he demands better skills

We are also looking for consistency

Drop the players with poor skills

Keep changing the team, where is the consistency

On  field leadership has gone backwards this year, interesting that Jones and Jetta are not there, form permitting of course

It's always easy to blame the coaching staff when it is ultimately the players out there playing

When do you think they'll get better, Saty?

Time for some tough calls?

Geelong killed us playing keepings off - they didn't look like missing a target

You attend training...do they actually practise their field kicking??

I agree, disposal is killing us, missed kicks / handballs, dropped marks, yeah the coach team selection and game plan at times can be queried but what hope has he got if we can’t kick.

The result does not surprise me at all. What I thaught shone out today was the complete stupidity of this club. Some of the decision making errors were hard to believe. On how many occasions did we kick it or handball straight to an opposition player.

The fact we have these gapping holes and went out and spent two first rounders and a fat salary on Lever is entirely the issue.

Outstanding response. Sum it up perfectly and why where all so peeved. It not just about Lever as bad as he is it the lazy decision making.

That is his ultimate job. To get the skills right. The Club also has to demand higher skills as a standard requirement

Otherwise we are wasting everyone’s time

I know it has been previously said but we are a bottom 4 team and have shown NO improvement on last year and will finish about the same spot.In fairness to the coach you could not train a team to be so poor at decision making, and turning the ball over constantly. I agree with Dermott pre match when he stated we have  too many not committed enough have NOT bought into the team plan and are just stats hunters. For the second week in a row a small opposition mid will get BOG (Guthrie last week and Lambert this week) due to our undisciplined mids who will not chase and tackle and constantly handball to someone worse off and are going backwards. Richmond applied 3 quarters of intense pressure and we cracked and could not handle it. With 3 down in the last they couldn't maintain it but still gutsed it out and but for injuries it could have been a very ugly result.

Team structure and player buy-in, we have neither. And as Lynch showed key marking forward with a few tricks win you games. Our lack of class and polish is disheartening. Sadly we jus aren't good enough and are ordinary at best

A perfect example of prejudice.

Lever can do better, but blaming our performances on him, or on bringing him to the club, is off the mark and incorrect.

I actually did in the my original draft.

Should have mentioned other teams are now sitting of the contest with extra numbers to apply constant pressure, knowing we are going to contine handballing untill we lose it.

This is easily countered by a simple kick over this mini flood to all the space behind, of course while our forwards contine playing behind waiting for a 50 meter kick of a step under pressure then this won't work either.

It's junior football stuff but 1 handball and 1 kick would be a good start.

Goodwin does not demand excellence, his teaching methods are not good enough. I am sure he wants the best, but he is not capable of achieving it

We need an experienced Coach. ( We needed to have Roos for way longer than 3 years) This Club has been down too long

Our club doesn't demand excellence, winning is not an expectation, in fact we expect to lose and accept losing.  This isnt a Goodwin thing this is ingrained in our clubs culture.

I don't blame him personally, I blame Mahoney and co for getting him. My view hasn't changed in 3 years. It's an opportunity cost and a part of the issue.

Could be priority pick time again my friends...and I'm fully on board.

And I think we need to make a play for Blake Caracella as an assistant coach. Had success at wherever he's gone. I really like the idea of having a game plan and, at a stretch, a back up plan

Yep. we're currently the easiest team to play against for a decent coach. Apply basic pressure and stand around waiting for us to hand it over to you.

A big shout out to Michael Hibberd. The guy is under way more duress than any other player in the team and still managed to shine.

Definitely Rodge. He was average last year and to be able turn it around under the circumstances is a massive effort.

The coach coaches then during the week, he sends them out at the weekend and watches them make appalling skill errors and decisions for AFL Standard players, knowing it will reflect on him, as it always does, rather than the the players who have practiced and practiced, but still make the same appalling errors

This is the issue Saty !

How many times can we watch " the same appalling errors" and not ask the question as to whether what the " coach coaches during the week"   is having any impact, effect or use?

Based on performance, it seems none.

Next obvious question. Is said coach of any [censored] use at all ?

What does Goodwin do on GameDay though? Does Goodwin select the team on a Thursday? He is the one who selected Smith on Riewoldt and kept him there. He is the one who refuses to play a 2nd tall forward.  He is the one who won't play Jones or Jetta whenwe are crying out for onfield leadership. He is the one who won't play Bennell when we are crying out for good ball users. He is the one who refuses to play Harmes in the middle and persists with Oliver and Viney though they are both one dimensional players who have had zero impact on games for 18 months.

I could go on.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
