Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What they're saying down at Punt Road

Recommended Posts

  • Melbourne is not very good this year.
  • Dees by plenty. Our side will be jet lagged.
  • Having Rance right now would be massive. He was a jugger naught when we were a middle of the ladder team.
  • Melbourne's Grand final this week.
  • I'd say Dees will bring in either Weideman or that spud from Essendon this week to try take advantage.
  • It'd be nice if they played Preuss again.
  • Demons to Bomb out of the finals race.
  • They'll probably thrash our midfield. Our midfield basically has lost every battle so far this season and Melbourne's one is able to get the ball. Their issue is what they do post-clearance and heading into the forward 50, so we'll just rely on their tendency to misfire in the forward line or the midfield for the win.
  • Reckon we match up well against the Demons. They're not overly quick like the Saints, who beat us for pace last week.
  • Fritsch is under rated and probably their most dangerous forward.
  • Anyone else forget the dees existed? last i heard about them was way back in the nab cup when everyone was hyping that fat bloke for playing his first good game in years.
  • Reckon this could get ugly. Dees by 47.
  • Tomlinson and Langdon know how to find space and the footy.
  • Let's hope Langdon gets 30 possessions, his Disposal is Sh!te.
  • Melbourne games in the past have been pivotal at times. The McMahon Dustin Martin Cup, The Tommy Hafey debacle. Anzac Eve 2017 and I reckon from memory we lost a last round against them to finish ninth. Sunday's got that same feel about it.
  • I hate losing to those entitled [censored].
  • Always say Brayshaw is a bellwether player for Dees. When he plays well they are up and about, like in 2018, he was third in Brownlow.
  • Melb. last year resorted to a lot of push and shove. This year since the restart they've had two close games for a win and a loss. They'll be thinking they are in form and we are off the boil.

Therein lies one of our big problems.

Richmond supporters are one of the worst going around on the forums (particularly big footy) but the above comments were pretty fair and measured.

This.

One of the top 3 strategies op use to beat us.

Rich were one of the teams that smugly pronounced:  "Match them/let them win on the inside, beat them on the outside", before the game!  And so it came to pass.  Their players spread faster than us from the contest and had outside players so even when we won it there would be a turnover with fast movement into their fwd line and our attacking placed midfielders and defenders didn't have time to get back.

I've not seen anything this year to say we have fixed this problem.  Hopefully, tomorrow is the day.

I can’t see us winning. Tigers always beat very comfortably even if out of form

Maybe over the last couple of years, during the middle part of this decade we beat them on a regular basis.  We generally match up well against the Tiges and I'm confident we can knock them off.

If only I shared your confidence Wise.

Same forward line that could not beat time with a stick in every game this year. Find it hard to see them kicking a winning score.

Last 3 games they've knocked us off by an average of 41 points.

We've beaten them 3 times out of the last 10. Including once when Garlett kicked 4 and once when Watts kicked 3.

WLLLWLWWWLLLLWWWLLLL

A very streaky record against Richmond.  I choose to believe the tide is turning.

I think our two 'gun' tall defenders are steadily improving, I think our radically different forward line solution is literal centimeters from beginning to work properly, and I think our clearance effectiveness will be helped by playing together in consecutive weeks for the first time at AFL level since last season!

In fact, I'm going to rest my thoughts on that - this will be the first time this season that the team has played together in consecutive weeks, and we've implemented a whole lot of changes that need to be worked through.

Calling it not - incremental improvement for the next five weeks and then brutal unstoppable dominance after that. :D

Are they still salty about the last round in 1998 when they had to win to play finals, I remember there banner GO HARD OR GO HOME, then farmer took mark of the year on Lyon and they obviously decided to go home, I was at the punt road end that game remember tigers supporters punching on with each other in the standing area

When I was a kid . . . back in the 1970's . . .

The Deez supporters would gather in the centre of the MCG after we'd beaten the Tiges and sing the following song:

Hooray for Richmond, hooray at last,

Hooray for Richmond, for they're a horses a&#e.

Don't be mistaken, don't be mislead,

They're not the horse's a&#e, they're the horse's head!

What was the "Tommy Hafey debacle" ?

And who is the "fat bloke" who played a good game in the NAB cup?

?

Dees beat them in an ANZAC Eve match (possibly the first ever one?) the same week Tom Hafey  passed away.  Hogan came onto  the scene that night. Did one on Rance from memory

Reminds me of one of more depressing sledges i yell at the footy when the dees are being flogged and their fans are giving it to us (which Ive noted on here before):

Shows how rubbish you are (insert team here) - a half decent team would be 10 Goals up (or 15 if they are already 10 up)

These threads highlight how knowledgable opposition fans are in relation to our team and its vulnerabilities.  The brutal honesty is quite confronting (and hard to argue against)

And that's just the fans ... imagine for a minute the FD's of the other teams and their deep knowledge.

Our weaknesses are front and centre.  As are our strengths.  And whilst our weaknesses outweigh our strengths, we won't challenge.

2 decent key forwards and we'd be a top 4 team

HF  Fritsch      T-Mac*(Roaming)  Melksham (High HF)

F     Pickett         Proper KPF          Rotating Mid

*Not sold on T-Mac as a KPF ... if not,  we'll need another proper KPF.

Hey Macca . . . totally agree on T-Mac. Not convinced at all. Also need major improvement from Oliver, Brayshaw, Viney et al . . . then a top four side. ?

Richmond will beat us comfortably imo. They have started sslowly but still have depth across the field. Their field kicking when on is up there with Hawthorn and Geelong.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
