Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Garlett would've been our top goal scorer last year if he'd played every game, so no. Rightly or wrongly, Goodwin's track record is caring about defensive pressure over goalscoring.

Which is a shame, cos scoring goals is cool.

You mustn’t have seen his first game of 2020z it was deplorable. Didn’t hit a single target: he is a putrid footballer. He also tries to lead at the football and doesn’t realise he is 4ft 7 and can’t take an overhead mark. He can ship right off.

Agree. Spargo is not the answer. His skills were horrible. Turnover king in 2019.  No tricks to succeed at 5’8.

So upset that I just won’t go to the game on Sunday. Dammit!

I have to agree with Wallace. Don’t need 4 mid sized forwards like Fritsch, Hannan, Vdberg and Melksham in the forward line.  Need a second tall to compete and at least bring the footy to ground. I’ll be watching the game but we’ll need to improve the conversion.

Points per game. 49.6 (lowest in the league)

21 goals from 131 inside 50 entries. (0.16 conversion, lowest in the league)

Connection forward of centre !!!!

training v match day are two different things

perhaps at training we are train with the intention to lower the eyes, hit those smalls up and have them take shots.

but game day we bomb it in and game day there is pressure and kicks to the top of the square. There is nothing wrong with bringing the ball to ground then going to work - it's the out marking that kills us and that's what happens.

[censored] I would take 0 goals from Tmac every day of the week if he could bring it to ground then our smalls pounce. But it doesn't happen.

This stat is alarming and we simply have to play 2 talls just to compete.

Why did they play Bennell in the first place if he wasn't fit? Goodwin is a hack the sooner Yze replaces him  the better. We need class and Bennell delivers it in spades. Shocking decision not to play him, Melksham still gets a game though. I expect there will be no changes this week.

Well I thought TMac did do that last week on a number of occasions and watching the game again he did. But he needs tall support to spread the defence, he was double teamed all day but was competitive. Our mid sized forwards struggle because our delivery is poor and they aren’t exceptional in the air or on the ground. Melk crumbed a couple for snaps but only kicked points. Kossie looks dangerous but needs more games under his belt and I wonder if we are better to have Bedford up forward for the chaos ball rather than one of Hunt, Melk, Hannan, AVB?

Totes agree.

Don't need Omac

Look i know we recruited Lever to play a specific role - third man in, intercept marker floating 'round the back line, with other defensive bigs covering for him - but Lever is awesome one on one and is super, super strong through the core.

With his combination of the ability to out mark any key forward one on one and his sheer physical strength he is an elite key position defender.

He has been a revelation in this role at the dees. Week in week out he takes the best big forwards and simply out muscles them and shuts them down. Reads the ball so well in flight and just knows how to position his body to beat his man one on one.

He has certainly surprised me as i always thought that he was terrible one on one and could be easily shoved aside even by medium forwards, like say a Rowan.

And playing Lever as key defender against opposition bigs is just so smart as, one he is just terrific at it and two we need an intercept defender and it has allowed them to bring in Smith to play that role. And like Lever he is just a natural footballer.

With his strength Lever will monster Lynch and if he plays on Jack will be way too wily one one one. Bring it on.

With all due respect to those boys, but there's a reason that we got most of them with picks higher than 25 and some in the 50s or later. None are elite or have the potential to be elite, Fritsch perhaps the highest ceiling - but never A grade. Sure, we might develop cohesion eventually, with everyone playing their role perfectly, but right now we are lacking some players forward that will make something out of nothing happen. Players with class and skill. Players who can at least have a big 3 or 4 goal impact when they're on. Goody thinks he's Nathan Buckley, shuffling around Jordan DeGoeys and Jayden Stephenson's

I think we need to bring in Oscar to replace Smith, or as a bit of a crazy idea keep Smith in and experiment with him up forward. The defensive structure actually looked better last week, but yet again (seriously how many times are we going to say this before the club gets it right) our forward structure and entries are diabolical at the moment. Which really makes you question why Bennell isn't the team.

I'm really fed up with it, and only one thing is going to change that. A win.

Win, and Goody looks like a genius. Lose, and more questions will come. Especially if we lose with more forward entries than Richmond.

Might just be me, but much prefer Smith on Riewoldt than Omac. Despite what's been said here, Smith has been good defensively with his closing speed on the lead and physically seems an ideal match-up for Riewoldt. Oscar doesn't have the pace for Riewoldt or the size for Lynch so can't see why they would play him.

Almost deliberate hamstringing of our scoring potentials. As an aside, did you see Dean Kent and Max King play great footy (all game) for the Saints last night, against Carlscum?

Joel Smith deserved to retain his spot. Can’t remember how he went in the second half Vs Geelong but his first half was really good. His athleticism and pace to go with his opponent was evident. A massive step up from rd 2.

Infact our defence of May, Lever, Smith and Hibberd functioned very well for most of the game.

All things going well, Smith could potentially be a productive and versatile staple in our defence going forward.

Bennell, seriously could the club stop the BS and tell us whats up,? on one calf he is ahead of: Spargo, AVB, Brown, Melk, and Hannan. That said I think Petracca is a much stronger unit that Fritsch, a'la Dunstall, and like the idea of him at FF.

The bloke has played 3 games in 3 years for FFS.  Give him sometime to get his confidence back in his body.

The hysteria around Harley is ridiculous.  The bloke has played 3 games in 3 years and has so many calf issues that he would have lost count. Let’s give him sometime to get his body right and then bring him back.  Goody gave him a taste against the Blues at 50% game time and from my point of view he looked very hesitant, which is understandable.   Harley has so much talent but let him get some runs on the board before they unleash him again

Sorry mate I might be wrong but I've never seen lever out body anyone, no contact is his game so we can only use him as the third tall intercepter which he is good at once his confidence is up.

The two players who also played the role were not ready, so Bennell got a run.  They have now gone past him in fitness, and he needs to enhance his defensive efforts.  Not shocking, role based.

C'mon, BBP.  Smith is not AFL standard and is being gifted games because the coach likes his "athleticism and pace", too.  He has had 11 games, and I'm yet to see the required skill and brain to have a reasonable career at this level.

I don't want our team selections to be like a revolving door, but we can't just keep picking players who consistently play below a particular standard.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
