Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I try my hardest to stay positive and know we have been dealt a crap hand this year but when a team just plays keepings off and we have no answer for it I think questions have to be asked. I didn't see a move to try and fix the problem. Each week I watch with the most loyal and positive of supporters and even he yesterday said the coaching and selections were bad. It may be the coverage but does Goodwin ever get mad about some of our terrible errors? I applaud the OP's sentiment but I'd like to see some improvement.

We were told that in 2008

We have all been conned. It has to stop

And it has SWYL.

Owe got a snippet of our future in the 2nd half of 2018.

We are now drafting better than ever over the past 25Yrs,  and are now a club players would like to be a part of, once again.

We have stability, and te players are learning, particularly the yonger ones coming thru.

Of all people SWYL,   you should know what The Tigers were like when they ate their own,  and sacked anyone who didn't produce miracles O/night.

It is happening and the right way... finally since the late 1980's....   the development.    Which disappeared Mid 1990's.

Too mana postors are stamping their feet atmo,  all because of last years debacle season, which was about injury and health issues.

We now have a fantastic fitness/conditioning person just started,  and we recruited our socks off last season.

Hang tight SWYL, we are back on track after a horror 2018.   Where all players lost a lot of confidence/self-belief.

I am not questioning the players

I am questioning the Senior Coach, who has no idea what to do in the Forward line.

There are 2 basic CORE Rules to this game, and as we are THE Foundation Club of said game, we should be dam good at it

1. To Score as much as Possible through the big Sticks

2. To Stop the Opposition from Scoring through the other Big Sticks.
That is the most Simple Rules

Goodwin  Concentrates on the middle of the ground.
Guess what?? Yesterday we won most of the Stats. What a Suprise!!

But he is clueless when it comes to efficiency

you are saying last year was about Health Issues??

Spare me Please

This Club will talk about except THE TRUTH

Please don’t tell me to be Patient anymore.

That’s the problem

TOO MUCH PROJECTION

NOT ENOUGH DOING IT

Its not the forwardline SWYL.

It's the method of bringing the ball into the forward-line,  that is 90% of the forwards issues. we bring te ball thru the midfield mostly unde the pump or we win a ball at centre bounce and bang it onto boot without any real vision or thought.

Its all midfield functioning, and 'm sure that is why We brought in  the saints old coach to help in this area.  Its why we brought in Langdon and Tomlinson to help defend with hard running, and also attack.

And we recruited recent seasons,  small players to start to build our future forward half,  with some skills and some pace.

The plan is happening SWYL,   but it isn't about this year is all.

THAT IS EFFICIENCY and it does not exist

We win all the Stats and kick 4 goals. It’s a joke.
Stop believing the Spin MFM

We cannot wait another 2-3 years

yesterday in perfect conditions at 3/4 time  we had kicked 3 goals

That is just crap ok, stop defending it

Perhaps we are too wedded to the midfield group.  If Viney and Oliver were half forwards, and Brayshaw, Harmes, Salem, Bennell, Sparrow were the guts players, maybe our midfield’s ‘hidden’ woes would start solving themselves?

Not criticising, just think the bit about emotional involvement is overblown

The players have to learn to do a number of things to counter the flood press strategies against us.  It's not easy, and they will learn when they do.

Obviously they know what to do,  but them doing-it under pressure is totally different,  to knowing.

You cannot force players to be better,  and its also a lot to do with team form as well,  that confidence side of the equation.

So with experienced players out,  and kids in,  it's even tougher to do what you want

Mate,  I grew up supporting the Dees in the Southern stand, to be precise, right in the middle, top deck, where the Cheer Squad used to sit throughout the late sixties and seventies. For fifty five years I have been correct in saying we dont have the players or the structure to win a flag. Nothing is different this year, in fact we are further away than ever. I have never been one of your chaps and will continue to have emotional involvement, you do what yuou like.

Every team plays kids. I am sick of hearing it. Good teams learn to play under pressure very quickly

We keep regurgitating excuses whilst bottom teams go past us.
AFL is all about Pressure, always has been.

The MFC cannot cope under pressure on or off the field

As soon as Roos then Jackson left, we collapsed in a heap. With the Coach reeling off the same Presser every week.

Brett Ratten will sort the Aints out and we will still be saying “we will learn from this”

It is all Spin since Adam Simpson exposed Goodwin as a one dimensional Coach  Nothing has changed since then with his style

He doesn’t know what to do...

I absolutely understand the frustration and impatience. I’m guilty of it too.

That said, I agree with the OP in that the weekend’s game wasn’t as bad as has been made out. If Tommo had kicked a little longer and straighter towards the end, the discussion would be a slightly different one.

It wasn’t a pretty spectacle for the neutral but I saw some signs of getting back on track. We met and bettered Geelong in the contested battle, and some of the passages of play this year have been better than anything we saw in 2019.

We allowed them to take too many uncontested marks and surely that is something the coaches will look at. The forward line remains a concern but it is not too late to shake it up and try to find a working combination. It is retrievable.

A Clarkson said he views us a finals quality side. For now, I’ll stick with his assessment.

They are not excuses SWYL.   For us its our reality.

Not even Carlton have been down so low as us in recent decades.   And you know that,  as you say it some times.

Right now we are neck and neck with the blues in talent and development,  but as you know,  they don't have the ingrained culture issues that we do, of the past half century.

The good teams you speak of still have the major part of they're old team structure and experience playing together. This gives then stability under pressure. And helps the kids and lesser lights to not panic, and make so many mistakes.

We are coming from way-further-back than any other club, including Freo;  oh and the Suns to a lesser degree.

Who says people that are emotionally invested in footy aren't emotionally invested in their family? What a bizarre comment.

Yes, it would be bizarre if Saty (or anyone) had actually said it.  But he didn't.  He is just saying some things are more important to him. I doubt if he is alone there.

I'll go further and say that if (to my surprise) there is anyone who is more emotionally invested in footy than in anything else, then that person may have a problem.  Beat me up.

It's a false equivalency Sue, especially from someone with over 7,000 posts on a footy website. You can justify absolutely anything by referencing it against something more important:

"Oh you have corona virus? Well this person has cancer, so who cares"

"Oh you got a 10% pay rise? Well this person got 50% so who cares"

"Oh you're entire family was killed? Well what about the holocaust?"

"Oh you're a bit upset about your footy team losing? Don't you care about your family more?"

Discounting peoples feelings and emotional investment by comparing it something 'more important' is an absolute cop out and the prototype for avoiding any kind of accountability on the actual topic.

Also, why edit out the rest of my post that put it into more context?

We're emotional because we care. No need to argue about who cares how much or what is more important. Who was it that said sport is meaningless, but it's the most meaningful meaningless thing there is? Somebody, sometime, said something like that.

Salem's lack of energy and attack in those dying minutes was illustrative. There was no movement ahead and he kicks to a 3 on 1 in the pocket. That's just plain bad football. That moment is when TMac and Trac should have been at the peak of assertion, up and at it like lions onto a kill, with the smalls buzzing about like jackals after scraps. But they weren't

It looks to me that there is a psychological block there. Maybe, the loss in the prelim in 2018 made the group scared of winning, scared to put it all on the line, mindful that failure might result. That kind of thinking saps you.

Carlton's ladder position each year since Mark LoGiudice was appointed president in 2014:

2014 - 13th
2015 - 18th
2016 - 14th
2017 - 16th

2019 - 18th

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
