Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Unless Weideman's training and scratch match performances make him impossible to overlook, I'd prefer to play Jackson, too, but just as a tall forward. I thought Tomlinson was more than handy in the Gawn support role.  And if Weideman plays, I would also leave him in the forward line all game.

Weid has done pretty well in the ruck in the past, not necessarily as a tap ruckman but his follow up work, sometimes I think he does better when he has a little run in there just so he has to compete and gets crashed into. Similar to how they used to throw Hogan into the center bounces when he'd been quiet. Maybe a combination of both of them depending on how the game is playing out?

And what does that say about the MFC FD we extend his contract last year?

It's a tricky one od !

He's shown glimpses of being a player but also looked hopeless at times. Before this season got derailled by corona, I recall posting that now was the time Weid had to put up or [censored] off.

However, with what's happened this year it's almost impossible to make judgements based on a decent amount of evidence

As you know I am not a big fan but the current logic bewilders me.

The FD in 2019 thought he was good enough to renew his contract he ended 2019 on the injury list and since  then in a team devoid of KPF’s they will not play him at all.
What gives? Has he told the coach to get stuffed? Has he asked to be traded at the end of the year? Is he carrying an injury?

I don't disagree. It's just that I want him to settle in the forward line. The combination of time on the ball rucking plus time off the ground resting (to allow him to go on the ball) means he doesn't have enough consistent time in the forward line.

Seeing how they are treating him this year LDC I suspect they have already decided he is Ruckman / Forward not a KPF.

hard to take anything from the footage really given the lack of pressure.

From what Goodwin was saying in the presser they want Bennell to get his legs underneath him. Right now with fitter players coming back they will wait till he is more durable.

For all its worth we ran the game out on the weekend because he dropped those who dropped off against Carlton, namely Jackson, Jones and Bennell.

you'd think its just a matter of time. hes now had 3 hit outs.

Playing in scratch matches with 14 players won't achieve much. It's a big problem for all players. How do impress the selectors in that sort of game?

I admit it. ha

I'm biased, I just don't rate him. At least others have some credits in the bank based on previous good performances

Don't rate him on what? One game or his Essendon form.

watch round 1 for your answer

Why do you think we recruited a cheap 28Yr old key forward who has a good tank and marks overhead but not so much contested, and plays small.?  Whilst at the same time we've had TMc put on upper body mass.?

Why a 28yr old.? 'DD.?

Also about game time. Both Hannan and VDB only played around 60% of game time, and Bennell was even lower than that against Carlton. There are only so many players you can carry in a match.

his essendon form, the fact they cut him whilst not having many tall fwds and his first game with us

I certainly wouldn't have made either of those decisions so you'll have to ask the MFC FD

He hasn't really featured in anything much this "season" . He's a bit of a mystery man.

However, if Brown or Jackson get selected as an extra tall before him this week, his future at Melbourne is looking grim

If Jackson & Brown get selected in the same forward-line,  it will be Weirde.

Surely that can only happen if we're,  'Running on Empty' .!

I hope Weide can   'Stay'.. !

He's a high forward or chb,  as insurance,  in case of our young forwards get injured or are struggling.

His main go is that old Tmc role,  of rolling high up thu the midfield,  taking grabs and linking up to our running players.  That's his go... he's not a stay at home CHF;   and not a power-forward by any stretch of the imagination.  He's a floater type.

Who can also play a bit if defence.

I thought Hannan was quite good,  on first watch of the game.

Being out so long doesn't seem to have hindered him too much;  just a bit underdone,  but I thought his decisions were good, sharp.   Needs a decent gallop.

So at Essendon last year, didn't he kick over 20 goals for the season. would've nearly won our goal kicking..

That intercept by Spargo was the highlight of the whole clip as far as I'm concerned.  He read the play well ahead and made up a huge amount of ground to get where he needed to be.  Just great play.

not bad for a jockey.

The Weid must play alongside TMac.  It is the time to bring them together.

Omac is needed to help out May and Lever. That would leave Lever to become our sweeper. The position he plays best.

Jones has plenty of good footy left and is a leader. He will give his all.

A good time to have them back. They all can play the game well on their day.

Simple don't carry Vanders and Hannan Bennell is twice the player they are. I'd still play Brown he's kicked 10 goals in 3 games We are crying out for goal kickers and he is a goal kicker must replace Melksham. Bennell to replace Hannan and hopefully Jackson to replace Vanders.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
