Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

can't drop Hannan he was fine

it's the coaching - not the players

we have 0 system

watch saints, hawks, port and dogs and they have a system....we have nothing

Goodwin looks so lost every time the camera pans to him it's embarrassing

I just don't think he's it for us right now - I'll be amazed if he's at the club post 2021

anyways - just roll the dice with our best players and let them do their best to figure out whatever insipid gameplan Goody has

For mine Jetta and Hibbo can't play in the same team anymore, Hibbo showed showed some real mongrel on the weekend and cleaned up his disposal.

Young Rivers has earnt his keep and kept his place deservedly.

One of the Hybrid Forwards has to come out against Richmond this weekend and be replaced by Brown or Weed.

Vanders looked lost on Sunday but it is understandable after being out for so long, i can't see him or Hannan being dropped. Melk definitely won't be dropped as he is Goody's buddy.

We have to find out now if Weed is going to sink or swim, sick to death of him just rotting away in the magoos.

As for Bennell i know he kicked 4 but can he run out 80 per cent of the game? If not he stays in the magoos.

Does anyone know how much game time Benners play on the weekend?

After all that I can only see one change, Bennell; In and Out is anyones guess.

I think we'll look to go unchange. Consistency and team work is where we lack and we have close to best 22 on park.

I thought I heard Goodwin say he thought we gassed the right mix forward when asked about Weid or another tall, so it seems unlikely we'll make that change for team balance, as much as I'd support Weid for Melksham.

Personally I'd rather OMac than Smith because I think he combines better with Lever/May, but it seems unlikely as well.

I'd happily have Bennell in best 22 based on skill/ability, and he may get a look in if they are trying to take it slow with him and Vanders and rotate them, but I think it's better to try and get a few games in one of them and vanders is the incumbent.

I only see changes occurring if there is a deliberate tactic to rotate to keep players in match touch. But I think they'll favor consistency over that right now.

With Astbury out this now leaves the Tigers light on for tall defenders.

I think we need to try and exploit this and play two key forwards this week.

Personally I want to see the Weid given a go, but really take your pick of Jackson, Brown or Weid.

Why drop Vanders after his body is finally right after 3 years?

He needs game time

I'd put him straight in the middle

Because he had a poor game?

I mean, at most footy clubs that's what they would do anyway.

Should be interesting.

Salem and Melk need to be put on notice. Both skilful players and crucial for the way we play but they a providing very little at the moment.

Vanders looked a long way off. Has to go. I'd bring in the Weed. Although being matched up on Grimes or Vlastuin will be a nightmare for him. Fritsch should benefit though playing higher up the ground.

Rivers and Lockhart (second half) really struggled. Hard to know what Goodwin will do, but I'd give them another run.

If Bennell is to come back in it has to be at the expense of a winger or high half forward. Hannan was pretty good with his pressure and Kozzie while dangerous wasn't effective. Hunt maybe the scapegoat.

Why should Hibberd and Jetta be dropped after a poor performance, but not Melksham though? Seems like double standards there.

Crucial for us back in 2018? We've been worked out since, and have to rethink how we function going forward.

I'd definitely add Weid/Brown for AVb and Bennell for Melksham

Based on the report from Egan, Jones was dominant and right now I think we could use his leadership and experience. Vanders needs more time. If he only managed 60% game time, then he isn’t at full fitness. We cannot carry him again this week.

Bennell played as a forward. There is no reason he can’t play 80% game time as a forward pocket. He is that dangerous. I’d have him in.

All key forwards sounded ineffective. As much as I’d love one of the three in to exploit the Tigers small defence, Goodwin won’t be convinced.

Salem was one of our best against Carlton, and featured in the coach's votes from memory.

Melksham is frustrating at the minute. End of the 1st quarter summed it up with an amazing lace out kick to Fritsch (who dropped a sitter), and then gives away a cheap 50m penalty and late goal.

Never thought i would say this but i would bring in No-Mac for Melk.  Melk is totally ineffective up forward at the moment.  If i was Goody i would play him through the middle to get him involved and try and find some touch/confidence.  But i dont think we have the luxury this week given our 1-2 record.

No-Mac replaces May who goes forward for an experimental stint over the next 3 weeks as a surprise packet / foil, or maybe better, for T-Mac.   See TomaHawk & Pods during Geelong's latter golden era.  Unlikely but i'd like to see this trialled for a few weeks just to see what those two (T-Mac & May) might bring playing up forward.

May has been super solid down back but i reckon No-Mac could be given one more go to try and cover off the usual May role / go to opponent for the sake of the team in an attempt to solve our forward issues.

Not convinced either of Weid or Brown will bring it at this point.  They could come in if the May experiment fails.

Feel free to commence rants and hammering of this zany idea....now...

Is it time to put Tomlinson at full forward?  Not convinced he's a wingman.

Yes dont mind that either.   He looks lost out on the wings imo.   Fairly mobile for a big man.  Clunks the odd mark.  Play Tonmy deep and groom Tommo into a permanent CHF role.  Failing that... maybe CHB.

We recruited him as a wingman.  Bit harsh to judge it on three games where he has been far from our worst.  He'll be fine.

Yes but he could help the team more as a forward which is what we desperately need

Problem is we actually have forwards there waiting.

Unfortunately they are playing park footy on a 9am Sunday morning.

I said this to my brother the other day that selection is going to be very difficult because I didn’t think there were a whole lot of players that I’d drop immediately, but there were a number of average performances.

Melksham is a tough one to drop because we know what he’s capable of but I also think it’s time we looked at something different. Like a few others here I think we need two talls in the forward line, the way we’re playing doesn’t work with a smaller forward line. If we had players all over the part that could forwards laces out then it would be ok, but we don’t. One of Brown/Weids should come in, tell them their role, back them in to do it. Fritsch should be moved into Melks role, he’s not a FF, stop trying to put a square peg in a round hole!

The tough one is Bennell, I think we need him in the team if he can get 60% game time but I just don’t know who gets dropped. Hannan was good enough in his return, Hunt was poor but he’s a different player (and bigger with endurance), AvB wasn’t big but will get better with game time.

I see that as well. It can or did work when you have star and hard working small forwards.

Maximum of 2 changes please, we cant be making 5 changes a week and expect to win games.

In -     Bennell,  LJ

Out  -   Melksham,   Hibberd

Move Fritsch up into Melkshams role, have LJ and T Mac as forward 50 targets.

Why Hibberd? He was quite good.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
