Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Don't mind the changes. Nev has been poor for a while now. Nobody should be gifted games. ANB with four score involvements out of seven last game is stiff but it is obvious they really rate Kozzy

Will be interesting to see if the forward line can stand up. I have my doubts. Not sure anyone is capable of taking a contested grab these days apart from Fritta.

Valid point re: contested mark @dee-tox , it's all true...but what is the alternate? hoping a bloke who has done it historically, can do it again?

Jetta dropped... was that cos they let him be matched up on the blues talls and then when he didn’t beat them in a marking contest he played poorly?
I don’t understand this club, we seem to love shooting ourselves in the foot.

I think Rivers being so effective and damaging on the rebound put the focus on Nev’s challenges in providing movement out of our defence (an issue for a while now).

love him and hope he regains his touch and place in the side.

All reports suggest the intraclub was played at a strong intensity.

The club may have always known that Bennell was going to need to take a week off from time to time to ensure he doesn't get overloaded.

I've got no problem with him being rested but I do have a problem with him being dropped for Hannan.

@PaulRB, it's an interesting one... love the dynamic that Rivers brings... and Jet is a great conservative defender, slow out of defence and does a great job of blanketing players. I place more emphasis on that, than Pig (Hibbered) who over the last year and one game has merely slammed the ball on to his foot for 'yardage'.  That's a little unfair of course...

Where to go with the ageing players eh....

Nev has been an amazing Demon.. but his propensity to keep flying for the ball suggests he is done.. too slow when the ball hits the ground. Nev and Jones out is sad but makes our team a lot more quicker.

Everyone was talking about how “balanced” and “fast” the side looked on paper before the Blues game...

I can't believe D'landers saying Nev 'hasn't been great' or 'sub par'. Face facts guys, he's been shocking.

Ryan booted 3.3 against him and it should have been 6.0.

Nev was little better against the Blues, constantly beaten to the ball. I love the bloke, but he's going to struggle to regain his spot.

Tmac similarly needs a rocket up his backside.

He's only keeping his spot on the back of his size. Less than 3 goals and he'll get the chop IMO.

If the other forwards kick 12 between them then TMac will stay in the team even if he doesn't even have a shot on goal.

I’m wondering if we are trying to get game time into as many players as we can given no VFL. The more “match fit” players we have the better we will be able to cope with potentially playing more games in a shorter time frame, not to mention when injuries inevitably hit.

Jeff Kennett relegated us to the VFL, so now we're getting matches into our full list in preparation for our promotion to the Premier League in 2021 and beyond?

According to Mahoney about 5 minutes ago (Zoom call).

Jetta down on form and he acknowledges that himself.

Hibberd coming in allows Harmes to get back into the midfield mix.

Oh and Bennell...  he said they want to work him back into it slowly. He was never going to playing every game this season.  They want him to be a long term player and so he will be in for a couple then out for a lower intensity match in between, such as with this week in the scratch match.

Big no to Hannan, overated by some supporters and Hibberd. VDB always be a risk. So high risk team selection strategy. Especially so when Gawn and Goodwin said after the Carlton game our problem was easily fixed by longer game intensity. I think it depends on which leg Goody is stratching on any given day.

Definitely different seeing the likes of Jonesy and Nev Jetta out of the team.

Someone said yesterday Jetta was a great matchup for Ablett, which is true despite him being down on form.   Fingers crossed Ablett doesnt cut loose.

Agreed Titan, I was more responding to the notion that we were midgets! There isn't a player under 6'1" in our named forwards

Well except for Kozie, mind you 3 forwards taller than Robo and 3 the same height as him is hardly a mosquito fleet. Plenty of pace and pressure too. No wonder Taylor was "managed". If we get it in there enough the Cat's will have some headaches.

Hannan and AVB take a decient mark.

To me the selection of the two above when we have an almost fully fit list to pick from is a good sign that they are cherry ripe and will have an impact.  My view is that people are writing of Hannan as not much of a player based on his 2019 performances when he was rushed back from injury out of desperation when we were struggling just for numbers to feild a side.  When he is on his game, Hannan has a lot to offer in his aerial marking skills, opportunistic instincts around goal as well as pleanty of pace up the ground.  Add that to a forward line that already contains Freitch, Hunt, Kosi and I think that in itself provides a forward line which will be hard to match up on all at once.

I don't think it's beyond T Mac or Melksham to find some form at some point either - both quality players.

Agree PF. I don't think I've ever commented on selection previously. However the farcical nature of this team selection is beyond comprehension. Hannan, unfortunately, is a dud. Hibberd a headless chook. We all love Nev, and although it's sad to see him go, it's about the only selection decision that might be described as 'understandable'. How is TMac getting a friggin game? The turning circle of the Queen Mary and the on field footy smarts of Michael Gaffer. And we prefer him now to Jackson. And as for the dropping of Harley (pretty close to the only non-butcher at the club) . . . speechless.

Lack of a key forward who can consistently compete strongly in the air and grab a few contested marks per game is the obvious massive hole in our list. Be worth at least experimenting with May forward, think he played that role at GC for a few games.

Nev has a great record vs Ablett when he rested forward, I don’t trust anyone else for the job.

I’d be giving that role to Salem.

Many like to point to the success of the small Richmond forward line as something we should be trying to emulate.  Was well acknowledged by Jack Riewoldt that in 2017, he was coached to and changed his role from that of being a prime target and goal kicker to being that of bringing the ball to ground for their smaller forwards.

As much as I'd love to see big T Mac taking more big grabs, I'm not sure that's what is currently being asked of him.  I personally thought he competed ok against Carlton from the opportunities he had to present and was involved in some key bits of play that resulted in goals for us, like a recovery and tackle after the ball hit the deck which resulted in a goal for us.  Think we need to cut big Tommy some slack.

wow, i wouldn't - salem is among a host of our players who only works hard one way

if we're going to persist with this foolhardy shift to the backline, i might be tempted to give harmes the gig - he's disciplined enough and can go with baby jesus when he rolls up to the contest - but my preference is obviously for him to play on dangerfield wherever he goes as a hard tag in midfield or as a defensive stopper when he rotates forward

in saying that, if harmes is part of the midfield, perhaps salem is the man?? perhaps he'll respond to being set an actual defensive role

i can completely understand why we're going with this forward line - it's essentially the filth and (pre-lynch) tigers model but i just don't think we have the midfield who will work hard enough both ways to make it work

the thing about both richmond and collingwood is that at their best they are SUPER disciplined and have an incredible defensive mindset

even when we were up and rolling in 2018 i am not sure how good we were defensively, so it's a bit of a risk

such is life i guess -  ultimately it ain't my job on the line!

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
