Indeed. It was a conscious use of the the word virulent.

Though you could also argue refusing to do something as simple as vaccinate yourself against a virus that you may not be worried about contracting but that as the daily numbers in Victoria show can be deadly for some and have a serious impact on many (even if that is having to be off work for two weeks) could be considered an act of hostility.

P to J you are rather Deficient in some aspects of this Covid virus!

There are Many of all ages who have contracted the virus who are  not In the vulnerable category primarily 60 and over and Others who have pre existing conditions ( same ones that are not enabling the aged to recover in many instances) eg heart, respiratory, and pneumonia and other breathing and immune deficiencies which can be at high risk.

Evidence of this  group and indeed a Covid   Patient is that the virus can affect the body and ongoing health arise as side effects in the future not necessarily serious straight away.

Like the war veterans groups like this are notoriously ignored by health and Govt assistance down the track.

The vaccine should play its part for all but so should each person in society consider all categories in society just because they have not been in hospital or subject to serious illness to the ones that side effects will or may diminish  their quality of life in the future.0

So you are happy that we all go back into Stage 3 or 4 lockdown every time there are a series of breakouts and our health and hospital systems can't manage the workload and they are getting covid.  Hospital wards close and fewer and fewer non covid procedures are carried out.  Shops close, schools close, restaurants close, no concerts, football, cinemas etc etc. 

I truly hope that you and your family do not get this wretched virus, are not one of the frontline workers or someone who will lose their job or lose their business because of the lockdowns. 

One way or another everyone suffers from outbreaks.

Won't happen?  Look at New Zealand.  No cases for 3 months then within a week there are a hundred cases and Auckland goes into lockdown.  Not sure they yet know how this 'patient zero' caught it.

Lockdowns will continue until there is widespread vaccination.

It isn't about protecting you.   Its about protecting everyone around you that you might infect.

In their defence they just accelerated the phase 3 process and offered it on a voluntary basis to health care workers.The West like to criticize but in the circumstances it's an approach worth considering.

Reading some stuff on this the "good" thing about this virus is that because it is comparatively benign so too are the vaccines. (Nothing like the risks of injecting people with smallpox etc) The likelihood of side affects are low. Whether they work is the big question.

Interesting ethical debates on whether "challenge testing"should be allowed. This is where a vaccinated person is deliberately exposed to the virus. The problem with "normal'testing is that your chances of picking up the virus is around one in five hundred at worst even in the heavily exposed countries so you need massive numbers to determine its efficacy.Statistically even out of say three thousand candidates only six people might catch it.

No cases here but masks etc are compulsory. In the heat they are a real challenge especially the cloth variety. The trash from the disposable masks is overwhelming. I have a lovely collection including my favourite being a knock off Burberry design for $2. I read that the real thing sells for almost $200 !!!

Well Sweden may have been right all along. It will take until April/May next year to find out.

Managed India but ... well we know what happened.

Was planning to return in August but it's increasingly looking like sometime in 2021.

Adult kids have taken over the house in Melbourne so I just see the bills !! 

BTW...I have 500Mbs internet for $40 a month and they call Australia first world.

Here every place has temperature taking, scan in with the govt app and masks. Last week they had a massive crackdown and closed lots of places. Like most countries the economy is shot for this year.... International borders fully locked down but no interstate restrictions. States here have little power as the Federal Government has all the money.

My point was if people are vaccinated everyone is safer and we won't need lock downs.

Can't see our governments going with the Swedish 'herd' immunity and we are very risk averse as our closed state borders demonstrate.  They also have low political tolerance for a 'normal' level of daily cases.  So if there is no vaccine they will need to think of something else.

Now that the fixture has been finalised, I thought I'd collate some data on the fixture.

This is very subjective and designed to maximise my argument that we've had one of the most unhelpful fixtures in 2020. I've looked at 4-day breaks, the number of different venues played at, the number of states/territories played in, the maximum number of games played at any one venue, and the number of games played at the same place as the previous week.

On each one of these metrics, we are the league's worst. Without exception.

We had the equal most four-day breaks. We played at the most venues, across the most states/territories. Every other club played at least four games at at least one venue this year: for us, the maximum is the 3 games we'll play at Metricon and the Gabba. And only three times this year did we play consecutive games in the same place (matched by Port and Sydney).

Before anyone starts: I do not believe our fixture is the reason we've struggled and are likely (albeit not certain) to miss finals. I do not believe the fixture is the reason we have no discernible game plan, or that TMac has regressed, or that we can't work out where to play Harmes, or why we dropped Fritsch into the backline inexplicably.

I am simply putting this here to discuss the fact that we've really had a sh*t time of it fixture-wise this year. When you see North Melbourne and the Dogs get almost half their entire season at one venue, or Sydney get through both compressed fixture periods without a single four-day break, or Collingwood getting to stay in Brisbane for so many weeks in a row, it makes you think how the AFL had so much flexibility to make this fixture as even as possible, yet didn't.

Considering that off the back of last year's disaster we should've in theory been given a kinder draw we have definitely been shafted. 

There are more systematic issues within the team and the club that we need to fix before we'll be a contender but one would hope that next year we get a kinder draw to make up for this (though it's extremely unlikely).

They moved AFL games out of Victoria and NSW because of community transmission.

I assume there was a consultation process with the clubs given the unique nature of covid fixturing. If there was then the club hasn’t fought its corner very well. Perhaps they thought with Burgess on board they could deal with it. There was a lot of big talk before the Port game about how the 4 day turnaround didn’t matter, they could handle it, no excuses, rah rah. 5 minutes into the game put paid to that pipe dream.

Chalk it down to another learning.
