Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

No Premiership in 2020

IMO, because of the way this season has and is unfolding, no Premiership Flag should be awarded.

Teams that should have had softer draws have lost them.

Games have been abandoned.

Some matches are suggested to be against depleted sides.

Teams being forced to play extra games during the week, affecting those games and the following ones.

This is a joke of a football season, that of course is out of the AFL's control, as they just need the money for games on TV.

So no flag to the winner, unless of course it is Melbourne and then it should count as three Premiership Flags because of the difficulties we faced.

True, but I still think they will award a flag.

You might like the new AFL rule brought in today then.

If any team in the GF is outed due to virus positive tests, then the team in the AFL that has never played in a GF will play the remaining team and will be given a 12 goal start, to even up for the fact that they had to fly in from the GC.

Sounds a fair rule to me.

An earlier post said in jest what if a GF team test positive in the week before the Granny? Well it could happen and based on todays rules as long as a club has 22 players and emergencies they play. Essendon stand to lose their entire back 6 as it stands. MFC were training in groups as well the 7 mids, 7 backs as are other clubs. The GF would be a real drawcard with half a team out.

The season has been bastardised, manipulated and truncated so much that it could never be considered a legitimate premiership in the eyes of most fans at least until it’s forgotten in a few decades. Will be known as the COVID Cup. Won’t be worth much bragging rights unless backed up with a real premiership when things get back to normal.

I remember when the Spurs won the 99 NBA Championship, a season cut short by player lockout. Only a 60 game season I think. There was an asterix next to it for a long while until the Spurs won again I think 6 years later. Ultimately became one of the best teams of this century so far.

I'd go all out for this year's flag, and use it as a launching pad to a strong decade. I mentioned in another thread that I can see one of Richmond Collingwood West Coat and GWS falling down and missing finals this year, may well end up being 2-3 of them.

This year's flag is up for the taking. It may well be the easiest AND hardest flag you could win.

Not like this one is turning out to be.

The world war years, both of them?

For mine the more I think about it, once it is consigned to history and past our generation, no one really cares. Like no one talks about the hardships of the 1923 season and granny. There is history but I’ve never had a conversation relating to extraordinary circumstances in an AFL season. I feel like we spend to much time worrying about the right now when it really doesn’t mean anything if you know what I mean.

Said it before but my preference was to have a break until about July/August and then have some kind of off-shoot Ansett/Wizard/Nab Cup style tournament that could have any kind of round robin format they can think of that would last a couple of months and give people something to watch along with giving players match practice. I think it could have been a good chance to brand it as something else and differentiate itself from the usual premiership cup and they could have finished it around the regular time of year without having to go deep into the racing calendar.

But go on AFL, keep trying to raise this premiership season from the dead.

So we don’t get to play a depleted Bummer side where others from next week onwards may.   We will no doubt be rescheduled midweek after their ‘rested’ players return and we have had a hard weekend.
Once again we are screwed by the Bummers and the AFL looking after them.

Totally agree the integrity of the competition is indeed questionable with what’s occurred in particular the teams in interstate hubs who have been affected and not sure how a premiership winners would be worthy. Unfortunately $$$ are driving the comp, but I wouldn’t enjoy or happy if the Demons won.

Seriously what a bunch of negative nellies D/L has providing posts.

like in life nothing was meant to be easy that's with fighting for.

Hss anyone questioned the war years and flags then?

Last time  I checked flags counted as the same as in non war years and the Clubs didn't discriminate nor due the record books.

It is what it is!

HAve the attitude that we play any where any time and give everything because some  Clubs  may not And should care  if you win it whatever happens.

Afterwards don't devalue or Discriminate  the Effort of the eventual premier!!!

Oh and please don't bore the pages of social media with post after post of hard  luck stories of inequality and Favouritism or chances lost due to fate!

Yeah the war years were rough but was anyone here around for them?

It is absolutely true that there have been compromised seasons but let's not pretend we're comparing apples and apples. Pre draft, pre salary cap, pre equalization, pre professional game list goes on.

1916 Fitzroy won the spoon and the flag in a 4 team competition.

So, there is still hope for this 2020 AFL season when we compare it to 1916:

In its current format, our game today.

It will be replaced in a timeslot that impacts us both for that game and the following one, you can be sure.

Also the team make up will be different and again I am sure we won't get the benefit of a depleted Bombers side like Carlton and other teams might.

I am not whingeing, merely stating that this is such a compromised season as to be treated differently in the AFL records.

If people disagree that is their right and if they say we just follow the rules, then what would they say if the season was abandoned next week and the AFL said that the team on top of the ladder is the Premier.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
