Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Melbourne vs Essendon Postponed

I think people are forgetting we’re very lucky we had 2 players break rules but not pick anything up... what if it was Melb player/s who picked it up?

Pretty simple really, you have a positive test, the player and anyone they came in contact with isolates for 14 days. Yes it would suck but health and safety comes above a game. I would have the exact same view if it was Spargo who came back as positive

don't think so

A teacher tested positive. A player's child went to the same school. Game was delayed to allow the player to be tested

Regardless people saying this will end the season are just stupid, if it went undetected and we played them, then we both played next week, then there was many cases then maybe the season might be postpone for 3 weeks, then back again.

This game will be played next month and squeezed into the fixture somehow.

The main concern is getting Essendon up and running to play next weeks game against Carlton,  otherwise I fear it’s season over.

I’d like to hear our President make a little bit of noise about this.

Can you imagine Eddie’s response if their game had been postponed because of their opposition?

He’d go ape [censored] and demand the 4 points.

He wouldn’t put up with a compromised draw especially when no other teams are on the same level playing field. [Obviously ignoring the leg up they already get by not traveling as much as other teams and playing on the MCG most weeks.]

Time for our leadership to grow some balls and stand up for us.

I'm sure they've got balls @Kelpien, they just don't have a media platform. The fact that you don't here about it in the media, does not mean it's not occurring.

Sorry I'm not sure what you mean. It would seem evident he caught it in the last two to three days.

There is an incubation period of 5 to 8+ days on average before people test positive and are infectious.  Two days ago would not be long enough time for incubation.  It’s why they look 2 weeks after the protest marches for spikes in rates.

If that's really the case, why isnt the protocol to wait until the test results come back before allowing anyone into the club.

As I posted earlier, teams should schedule training and testing so thaat results come back before the next training.   I don't see that would put impossible pressure on testing, but maybe it might.

Annoying for us, as in essence we have done nothing wrong and it will end up biting us in the [censored] as we will need to jam this game in somewhere later in the year off a short break or play another game off a short break which disadvantages us.

I know it’s nobody’s fault, but why this always happens to us is beyond me. We are damn cursed. Cannot catch a break.

We don’t even know if you can pass it on during the incubation period so he could have infected multiple players and staff at Essendon. How long until those people can test positive? Surely Essendon players and staff all have to quarantine for 2 weeks now.

How can they possibly play next week given that they all potentially have been exposed to a highly contagious virus.

 I’m in the forfeit camp.

On the plus side we’re lucky this happened before the match otherwise we’d be in the same boat as Essendon.

Can someone explain to me the rules in place in Victoria around self-isolation? If McKenna has trained with his Essendon teammates and then returned a positive test how is it possible they can play next week? Is the 14-day quarantine period for those who come into contact with a positive case not mandatory? I'm super-confused right now.

Exactly. If a member of my family or a coworker was diagnosed I would be expected to self quarantine for 14 days.

Surely Essendon should be held to the same standard.

 Terrible optics otherwise.

I think there are reports that Essendon are in doubt to play next week against the blues.

A friend of mine said that junior footy awards 10 goals % for forfeits. I’ll take that.

That’s true. It’s in the books of most junior leagues that are under the control of AFL Victoria and applies even where forfeits are due to matters outside of the control of the club involved.

Can you just clarify this Demonland? Would you be expected, or is it enforceable by law?

He feels desperately sorry for Essendon and had the arrogance to say that they were basically a certainly to beat us today.

One of the panellist felt for us being caught up in the situation. Can’t remember who?

Agreed, it is completely negligent and bone headed to allow any EFC player or staff member who has had contact with Conor skip a quarantine period for the sake of some TV $ and to tick another game off. Lives are at risk most players would have a vulnerable family member, they cannot be allowed to play. If that means call off the season so be it. If that means they have a plan to postpone essendons next three games and make them up later (good luck fixturing that) or allow the season to continue as fixtured with Essendon forfeitting.

My mistake. Was just going off the Barrett report on afl.com. where he wrote in pretty factual language on AFLHQ's stand-point. "Their round three match against Melbourne, fixtured for Sunday, will be postponed until later in the year . . . As worrying as the news was that Bomber Conor McKenna had tested positive to COVID-19 on Saturday morning, once his teammates had been officially cleared through tests, there was no consideration given to anything more disruptive than moving the Bombers-Demons game to next month or later."

Barrett was on the channel 9 morning show and confirmed that McKenna trained in a group of 8 players after the Friday test. Did I read somewhere the whole team bar McKenna trained yesterday morning? He went on to say that Essendon players would be tested Tuesday and if negative were free to play against Carlton.

AFL TO PROBE CAUSE OF McKENNA VIRUS.  Who the hell do the AFL think  they are. It is the Health Dept job to track the source of the McKennas virus and who  the subsquent people at risk are likely to be. Flop cut should have put a top person in charge of all non footy things to do with this pandemic and concentrated on football. Start with giving the Demons the four points. And MFC, tell flop cut to go jump. We prepared and were ready for this game. No interest in playing them at a later cramped schedule date.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
