Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yes l noticed on the latest MFC podcast where they interviewed both the wingers, when they were asked their favourite positions to play apart from the Wing, he nominated the Ruck. Apparently when the Giants played the WCE previously, when the giant’s ruck an was injured in warmup he stepped in and Rucked all day quite successfully. Could have a hidden talent which could come in handy.

Tomo was in the ruck For GWS  a fair proportion of the Prelim Final last year especially when the ball was up forward And was very competitive too against Grundy.

I like the selections - while I get the feeling we might be a little short in the forward line, I think we have the run to go with the Bombers and as long as we compete well in the air, then we have the mid and small forwards who can mop up and do some damage at ground level.

Really excited to see what Kozzie can do on the G, while it's great to have both AVB and Hannan back in the side and over their respective injuries.

Jones out. 1 less player for the opposition who he kicks it to at every opportunity.

Small forward line...

You can almost guarantee that we will bomb the ball in again like we did against WC.

Goody will then be talking about the problem with connection...

He's going to have to own that one sooner of later.

Or we could try a Port (Bennell last week on one occasion) and tumble punt / chaos kicks inside 50 and let the smalls mop up on the ground!??

I think we can expect a huge emphasis on pressure in this one. We've gone smaller and faster. I'm looking for us to win the tackle count in the wet hopefully.

Think this way, too. Pressure and taking a few opposition casualties because our 'mongrel' game is a very good one, slowing many big names in the process. Vanders, Tracca, Viney and May - think 'Damage'. This can assist our smaller fleet to be brave amongst the carnage, running through the lines, skirting the spaces.

Maybe Tomlinson to play forward. We have plenty of others to play through the middle.

A star???? ?  We must be talking about a different bloke

Yes, he has the *potential* to be a star. Why would you suggest otherwise?

For somebody who made their debut last year (and came through the ranks quickly), he showed a lot of class and composure in some big moments. I’m excited to see what he can offer the club with his first full pre-season behind him.

Bummers have gone for a short forward line too.

Their full forward line is an out and out lol:

[40] Will Snelling, [44] Shaun McKernan, [20] Jacob Townsend

If we cant get on top of that forward line, we deserve to lose (yes, I know they don't necessarily line up that way)

They may send Hooker forward given their short forward line. We may do the same with May, maybe (trying to break the record for using 'may' in a sentence).

If Zaharakis plays like he did last week, Langdon will give him the mother of all baths.

Managed minutes of Bennell, Hannan and AVB is a slight concern.

Possibly, although they recruited him to play on a wing, so I'd think they would leave him there.  It would seem strange to move him after just two rounds.  I could see him giving Gawn a chop out in the ruck, but I don't think that sees him playing forward.

With T Mac, Fritsch, Hannan, AVB, Trac, Melk etc all capable of plucking a mark and providing a contest, I don't see the need for Tomlinson to play forward.  I think they'll go small and look to cause some chaos inside 50.

I've knocked McKernan before, but the bloke kicked 4 against us last year.  He might be lol against other sides, but he's Tony Lockett against us.

Legion

wrong on all counts

Jonesy had a bad one but not habitual kicker to opposition

Lockhart every inch a player in defence Will be a long term mer once he gets back in He's eyeing Lord News  spot And will be there at end of season.

Tommy needs to respond with goals and marks to assist the smalls also. Let's see again how he goes.

Howe was recruited to Collingwood as a forward.

I think it took Bucks about 2 weeks to realise he was a defender.

If we move Tomlinson forward and he has the same success as Howe back then he will be a star and exactly what we want...

I know, I am delirious...

Tomlinson

That's right,  which could open up a wing spot,  for a few minutes per Qtr.

Risky strategy IMO.

Maybe Smith to the forward line to replace Jackson? But if Smith goes forward, who takes his spot in the back six? If Smith doesn't go forward, I guess we will need to back Fritsch, Hannan and vandenBerg to contest with Hooker and Hurley. That is a big risk IMO.

Tomlinson to provide ruck relief (which is only a limited amount of time with shorter quarters)?

Jones being dropped is the correct call. I suspect the comments about his minor injuries are designed to help soften the blow.

I feel for ANB who has lost his spot despite kicking 2 and starting well, but the reality is there is more upside in Pickett, Melksham, Bennell, Hannan, vandenBerg and Hunt than there is in ANB. We know this from the past few years of evidence. So I'm comfortable with it.

Interesting post, 't_u'.

If I had to guess a name for our  Mfc 2020  season objectives,  It would be,  I reckon,  "Deevelopment".

I wonder IF,   Gawn,  Tomlinson,  and Bennell,  will rotate positions, on Sunday.?   With Gawn spending more time forward,  and Bennell spending some time on a wing.?  Gawn rucking in an,  as-needs basis?

I want to see our Mids work without the Silver-service from time to time,  to help them learn,  and develop further.

It'll be interesting to see if Essendon has the wisdom and humility to just accept that Bellchambers is so entirely outclassed in the ruck (as well as his usual being out-competed around the ground) that they should focus on sharking off Gawn.  It actually makes it a curiosity to select Bellchambers at all, "We're playing on the assumption that this guy will be beaten all day, but he's in anyway."

Heppell is now out, person to person with the exception of Viney our main midfielders now stand a full 5-10cm higher than the Bombers. Vanderberg in... Hannan in...

Except for our FF line vs their FB line the height difference across the ground is astonishing.

Lol like the Blues ruckman last week who bathed Max after qtr time last week?

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
