Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Eddie’s jumper feud with Kochie just escalated

This thread would be so much more interesting, and probably with some very different opinions, if Norwood had joined the AFL instead of Port and wanted to wear their original jumper.

I would have the same advice  tell them to take a jump off the nearest pier.

Is it really going to affect collingwood if port wear it in the showdown games? I mean it isn't like they want to wear it against collingwood. Go Kochie.

I thought the Prison Bars looked excellent last Saturday, as long as they stay in South Australia.

Nah, I think they should just wear it whenever they want.  In fact, the next time Port plays Collingwood in Victoria, I think they should run out onto the ground in their prison bars jumper, just to make Eddie have a brain hemerage.

I signed. I find it hard to split Kochie and Eddie though, more interested in perpetuating generational hate with Collingwood, as I have noticed some personal back sliding (an admiration for Buckley and Grundy/Pendlebury (he played basketball you know?)).

Hi,

Yes every home team should be able to wear whatever they want as home team. They should be able to dress as flamingos if they want.

Every team should also be able to wear whatever they want as away team - as long as they dont clash with the home team.

Simple really

That would be highly entertaining to observe. Eddie and Kochie, 2 absolute ego driven wankers going toe to toe

Port Adelaide look fabulous “behind bars” it’s their rightful place :)

I'd have zero problems with Norwood joining and playing in a blue jumper with red V as it would align perfectly with my story of becoming a MFC supporter in the first place.  My grandmother's family saw the light and migrated from Adelaide to Melbourne during the great depression and following Norwood in the SANFL, naturally migrated their allegiance over the mighty MFC.  A very wise move considering the successful era the club had during the 50s and 60s.

If Norwood were to have joined the comp instead od say the Crows wanted to wear the red and blue, I would have been all for it, adopted them as a second team and would have actually celebrated a flag in my lifetime!

I've signed it because it would drive the Pies faithful mad and make Eddie spit chips.

But having said that, they entered the competition with a team that was already wearing black and white stripes that felt strongly it was linked to their identity, so they sought to protect it. Port signed a contract saying that they wouldn't wear the prison bars strip, those were the terms they accepted.

I can tell you right now if they wore red yolk and navy blue in their SANFL days, agreed to the terms they have with the Pies and then decided "actually no we're going to do this instead" I'd be unhappy about it.

A side note to add though, it wouldn't be the first professional sporting league in the world to have two clubs with similar strips. They're unique in their own way so for me it doesn't make a huge difference.

Personally couldn't give a toss about the jumper issue but from a contractual perspective, I can see McGuire's point. I also reckon that Kochie forgets it was Port Power admitted to the AFL, not Port Magpies.

On the issue of the footballs though, I'm surprised to find myself in full agreement with Eddie

incorrect

the port adelaide football club - known as the magpies in the sanfl - had their license transferred to the afl

there they adopted a new nickname, the power, so that they didn't clash with the pre-existing magpies

the pamfc was formed essentially by the sanfl so that the magpies remained a local team in the domestic competition, based out of a completely different locale and training set-up to the actual pafc

the one club initiative - led by brett duncanson and mark haysman, with a lot of former players in support and vital for media relations as much as anything - rejoined the two clubs as one, back to the pafc, where they remained the power in the afl and the magpies in the sanfl

they're a true football club, not some godforsaken franchise

No they didn't. They won a tender against joint ventures from other SANFL clubs. The licence became available because Fitzroy merged with Brisbane

Agree on the true football club bit

So Eddie says port signed a contract.  Honestly what choice did they have, if they wanted to enter the AFL there was no choice.    This is a fair and reasonable request, to wear it in showdowns.  Eddy himself said he’s never turned down a request for port to wear it in the past

And Port say nope....

https://www.portadelaidefc.com.au/news/718636/chairman-s-message-update-on-prison-bar-guernsey-petition

"To avoid any confusion, let me present some facts to you.

At no stage did the current Board of the Port Adelaide Football Club sign a “once and done” agreement with the AFL to enable us to wear our black-and-white Prison Bar guernsey in our 150th year. FACT.

In fact, the Collingwood Football Club were prepared for Port Adelaide to wear this guernsey in both 2020 Showdowns, on the condition that we would sign off on it being the last time and no more. FACT.

Subsequently, we refused to sign off on anything preventing us from wearing this guernsey beyond 2020 with “the parties agreeing to defer further consideration of that issue to a later point in time.” FACT.

Therefore, we are doing exactly what was agreed, picking up the conversation to be able to wear the black-and-white Prison Bar guernsey in Showdowns ongoing.

And we are not asking to be the Magpies in the AFL. FACT.

All we are asking is that we are able to wear our black-and-white Prison Bar guernsey in all Showdowns moving forward"

Interesting use of the wording “current board”.

I have no doubt that Collingwood has signed agreements, handshakes and verbal agreements with “previous boards”.

Yeah I think from the 90's is when they took prominence, and the vehicle was often the footy show on 9. They couldn't show footy so they sort other ways to get info content and presidents started to appear on there.  And thats even before Eddie took over the pies.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
