Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Oliver: The Forgotten Superstar?

Demonland

Recommended Posts

From his first game, Clarrie showed that he was playing a level or more above his peers. He is that good.

Until his coaches and team mates adjust (they have had three years already so hurry up) he might not reach his true potential. He can't carry a team on his own.

Earlier match winning stars such as Voss, *ird, Mitchell (both), Dusty and *udd have been able to maximise their value by having team mates who read their game and ran to the right positions to receive. Until he gets more support at the dees, Clarrie potential will be restricted.

He's underrated because lots of his work is done in packs where it's not clear to see what is going on.

I wouldn't call him a superstar yet. He's a consistently good player but he needs to go up a level or two to be great. Still young so has time on his side but I want to see him go forward more and hit the scoreboard. That's the main thing lacking from our midfield, scoring power. The best teams all have goalkicking mids, we rely too heavily on our key and mid size forwards (TMac,  Melksham, ANB, Hunt etc)

Getting on the scoreboard and kicking goals is one way to focus attention and step up to the next level. Increasing his kick to handball ratio as well will get more notice but if he is performing to the team instructions and game plan then I am content that he is doing his job.

Great player but i want to see him kicking goals!   He has another level or two to go to

Yes but remember Trac has gone into midfield just now and looks as though he will average about 2 a game He of course is 24 and just hitting his peak like Cripps

I now believe Clarry will gain status now that's Trac is in the midfield as they feed off each other That alone has got to make us a 2/3 goal better team!

He is so good we take it for granted. 28 touches is a shortened game playing a star.
im glad they are trying to develop him even further by giving him a tagging role

we are lucky to have him

Clarrie's a good player, not great.

He needs to become more damaging and he will once hethinks a bit more about his disposal. You can already see him size up options - much more than he has done previously but he still has a way to go to be considered like a Cripps, Dangerfield or Dusty..

Good player, give me a break

Check out his stat comparison to Cripps and the media seem to think he’s a superstar! (Clarries stats are on the left)

He’s one of ours and a lot of our supporters don’t give him much credit

22yo & he’s our best player along with Max

To me, that's more a draw between them.

Cripps swung the game, & almost won it for the Blues.

A good player absolutely, and our best mid along side Trac, but superstar, no.

Agree.

When I think of superstars I think of Martin, Fyfes, Franklin's of the world.

Oliver is not in that "superstar" category.....yet

Completely shut down Cripps on the weekend.

But you won't hear that in the media because Cripps is a "Good bloke"...

He did a great job, but if Cripps kicks straight he is the game winner. Oliver also had the advantage of a much better Ruckman.

I have re-watched the blues game a few times and it is notable that at stoppages, Cripps sought out Oliver to stand him a many times a Oliver went to Cripps. It is also notable that when Cripps got the ball, Oliver was right there with him tackling him or applying pressure. When Olive had the ball, Cripps was rarely in shot.

What Petracca did on the weekend marks out an AFL 'superstar' - demonstrating the physicality, determination and touch to observably bust through a scrum, collect the ball and accelerate out the other side of a pack.

What Oliver did on the weekend and every other weekend is to negotiate congestion and open space through deft touch. It's less noticeable, and often I'm left completely astounded by something he does that I only barely caught.

They don't show replays of those things.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
