Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Still think it’s a win win either way for us.
If he goes on to have career best form and leaves we probably right up there again. Have been pretty impressed with sparrow I reckon he will eclipse Brayshaw as far as midfield potential goes.

Would be a huge loss but still thing his role in the side can be replaced to a degree

Don't agree at all. There are few other players in the current team with his ability to read the play and position himself accordingly.

I mentioned in Post Game thread but will say it here, I thought it was significant that he was leading pre game huddle. With much respect to the player he has become, Gus used to worry me as a bit FIGJAM, I think he has matured from a callow youth into a brilliant clubman. He has also found out how to tap into his bravery at will, immensely courageous player. He clearly said he'd eat a pile of his own merde before going to WCE. I guess Freo is a possibility he clearly rates his brother and I know I would love to play with mine, but overall I think he will stay. I also think he has made himself essential, he's utilitarian ability makes him a coaches dream, and apart from the concussion has been quite durable, wears almost as many hits as clarry.

Gus is critical to our culture, a selfless team-first player and a very likeable character. The ultimate glue guy. He has also been brilliant since the finals series last year. I would be shocked if Gus didn't end his career as a Demon.

Don't know if anyone else noticed, but in last week's Gus and had my podcast they were talking about memberships. And someone had said 'I'm not signing til Gus does'. Then they bleeped something out.

I wonder whether Gus had given something away that they didn't want to get out, because they don't usually cut stuff out of the podcast

That’s selling Angus short - unlike Williams, Angus has actually excelled as a mid.

I don’t get the need to clip someone you also intend to keep? But whatever, I hope we can manage the cap and keep that core group together.

My comment is based on the Fox report. I'm not selling Gus short. I believe he's more value to us as a defensive wingman/defender. Whilst Gus had a good 2018 as an inside mid, he regressed in 2019, 2020. I'd hardly say that he's excelled in that role.

It's all conjecture at the moment, but if there's any truth that Gus' role and subsequent financial rewards are a determining factor as to whether he stays or leaves, then the club has to do what's best for the club.

FWIW, I think he'll 100% stay because he seems to be so invested in the team.

Honestly, i think the report Gussy hasn't re signed because he wants midfield time is a bit full of it.

Gun midfielder accepts team role outside midfield, hasn't re-signed at round 4 - must be disgruntled.

Potentially Gus and his management have noticed, as most dees fans have that Gus has become one of our best and most important players since the grand final, and they're keen to ensure he gets the correct value on his next deal, which is absolutely fair enough.

If it wasn't for Max, I'd think Gus would make an excellent captain - and I'm sure that leadership qualities are what other clubs see in him, in addition to his football ability. He is a "must keep" man IMO.

Absolutely Frog.

He is a leader. He brings heart and soul. Players like Gus are the glue that keeps the whole together. His role may be replaceable but his value to the team should not be underestimated. Of all the players he is the epitome of team first.

Gus leaving would result in a huge hole in the bow of the ship. As you say, a must keep.

Mr 'Gus' Playmaker is one of our greatest assets, turning the tide for many of our opposition ' big noters' with calm, steady and readable innovation in the propulsion of the ball, to advantage. He signposts how to win the game, others read and adopt his message.

Angus Brayshaw has been fantastic for the Melbourne Demons.

Not only has his disposal and decision making improved out of sight, but his leadership qualities are fantastic.

I also think he is a brilliant clubman and you know that he loves the Melbourne Football Club.

He is a vital component of our new "Demon Spirit" winning culture and I genuinely hope he stays with the Melbourne Football Club.

We need him to stay. Whether he plays half back or wing he plays a very similar game. I know Goodwin repeats ad nauseum "contest and defence", but we also use our wings like no other team, and they are central to our transition. Jordon making it 3 players to rotate through just makes it better.

Brayshaw is my favourite Dees player so I am clearly biased about him, but I would be letting a lot of our squad go because of salary cap pressure, before I let him go. There is a lot of chat about more midfield time, his brother at Freo, having to pay others more than him etc... and some or all of it might be true. But he is playing well in a Premiership team that everyone else is chasing, and he is a much loved club man. I would be surprised if he left.

I get the impression that Angus and Andrew would enjoy playing against each other more than with each other.

Gus surely be right up the top of the B&F, hasn’t put in a bad game and was instrumental in Rnd 1, 3, & 4. I was quietly smiling hearing Lewis say that he felt Gus’s better option was to stick with us. Lewis was in a very different position in that he was being squeezed out. Brayshaw isn’t being squeezed out at, rather he is a key playmaker right now.

FWIW, my theory is that Freo's more a bargaining chip for Gus. He's very keen to stay but there'd be a bit of a gap between the two parties. I think the club (list managers) budgeted for  more of a role player price than a gun. While we can factor in extra for his  leadership and being a highly valued clubman, his 2021 defensive wing role was more solid than spectacular until the GF. Brayshaw's now gone and taken it up another notch with his form in the men's department. I think the club  has some shuffling to do to find some more cash while trying to accommodate Oliver and Jackson etc.

Fingers crossed Angus Brayshaw stays at the Melbourne Demons.

Very sage advice from Jordan Lewis about being careful what you wish for.

Here is the link regarding those comments: https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/teams/melbourne-demons/afl-2022-jordan-lewis-warning-to-angus-brayshaw-free-agency-contract-situation-melbourne-demons-contract-offer-trade-news-rumours-whispers-latest/news-story/c60fd0fcb7c4282014f6323b9b272fdb

In the end, Angus Brayshaw needs to choose between winning more Premierships (hopefully) and maybe getting more midfield time at another club. I think he still will have opportunities to play in the midfield for Melbourne in the future. But to be honest choosing team success and playing your role anywhere would easily trump purely midfield time.

Anyway, I am hopeful that Angus Brayshaw will want to stay and play an active part in creating a dynasty of sustained success at the Melbourne Demons.

This contract should be Gus’s payday but since his last contract he has fallen down the pecking order even as good as he has played this year so far. For him to stay he is going to have to accept a pay cut no 2 ways about it. With the way he is playing now he will no doubt have offers exceeding what we can afford by some margin. Upto him if he says for success or goes for money either way he has served his time and owes us nothing.

He absolutely dislikes the Eagles or did a very good impression of someone who does on the Gus and Gawn pod a few episodes ago, loathes them.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
