Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Watched him closely on Saturday. Thought he got better as the game went on and finished strong.

Don’t wingers usually switch sides each quarter? Found it interesting that Gus played the Northern wing most of the game and Langdon stayed on the Southern side. I’d like to see him back in the middle soon but was wondering after seeing him not contest a centre bounce if the coaches truly believe he’s our next best option after Langdon on the wing.

Also curious if anyone else at the ground saw a pretty animated discussion with May and Gus after Freo kicked a goal punt road end?

I thought he played very well, used it well and put on some big tackles. I think in the end he had 2-3 holding the ball decisions.
In listening to the Gus and Gawny podcast it seems the wing will be his position this year.    It seems he is excited about the opportunity to partner Langdon which may have the missing ingredient previously.

His best position is inside, and while I love Viney’s attack I think Gus does it cleaner. I can’t work out why we wouldn’t throw him in there for periods against Freo when we were getting smashed in clearances.

Seems like they're really committed to him as the other wing this season opposite Langdon. For those who don't listen to it, he was going on in the Gus and Gawny podcast about their wingers club (ed is captain and baker is a paid intern). I know we've seen his best footy in the middle and he's never looked super comfortable on the wing but it would be great if he was able to make the position his own.

We need another wingman and he uses it better than most of the other options.  As for the clearances he will get plenty of opportunities in clearances around the ground.

I think he’s an effective centre bounce player but he’s not clean. Have a look at his play on the weekend and last year. Double grabbing, dropping marks, fumbling out to congestion, missing targets...

If he can learn to stay wide and find space he can be a useful winger as his link play is a strength. He’ll also get the opportunity to win contested possession in one on ones. I’m hopeful he can do it. Seems to be a terrific bloke.

Probably our best option on wing #2 at the moment.

and is versatile and good at stoppages.

I hope he can play consistent good footy. He has it in him

Clearly match committee think so too.  I find it odd they don't give him a run in the centre square ever - not once!  Is there some agreement due to his concussion that he's not allowed to play in there?

Will be interesting if Baker / Rosman / Bowey start tearing it up on the wing at VFL level and Angus doesn't have the impact we know he can. When Brown and Weid are back, TMac may be another candidate vying for the role.  Where does Angus go if one of those players is considered more suitable to the wing than him?

We know T-Mac was gearing up for a role on the wing. Once Brown and Weideman are back they are automatic inclusions and I can't see either of Jackson or McDonald making way...

I hope the plan was to have His on the ball on Jordan/Harmes missing out on a game completely bit as those above have stated listening to the Gus n Gawny podcast that isn't the case...

Which in my opinion is ridiculous.

If TMac continues to play like he did on the weekend then Weid is no certainty to be ahead of him in the pecking order.

I still think a list management trick was missed and there’s a danger of Dom Tyson-ing Brayshaw as I don’t think wing suits his best qualities and could end up destroying any trade value and also Brayshaw’s engagement.

Taking emotion out of it, I thought one of Viney or Brayshaw should’ve gone at the end of last year as we have one too many frontline quality inside midfielders. Yes there is injury history with Viney and Brayshaw, but with Sparrow and Jordon waiting in the wings surely there was enough depth to let the surplus player that could get good value in return and try to use that value to fill a  more immediate need.

Great post.

To me, it seems we're a season or two behind making the right list management calls both to keep up with the changing game and to compliment and add to our strengths.

The fact that we've seen more meaningful change at a coaching and FD level, with little return in onfield performance since our exciting 2018 finals is concerning to say the least.

And now, everyone is questioning Goodwin's worth. Including players. Players like Oliver, who if decides to leave, will be catastrophic from a Melbourne branding pov.

Roos must be rolling his eyes at some of the list management and positional change decisions Goodwin is making.

Angus Brayshaw is an inside midfielder who came third in a [censored] brownlow after a year of playing there. What the hell is going on?

As far as I'm concerned, Brayshaw, Viney and Oliver should be our starting mids with Trac and Kosi starting forward and rolling through the middle.

The wing position is more important than ever this year with the new man on the mark rule. Langdon has been huge for us and I simply can't understand why we haven't brought another one in or at the very least given Oscar Baker the chance to make it his own. Baker was no worse than Harmes or Jones in the practice game against the dogs and I actually thought he was really good against Richmond. What have we got to lose?

Gus simply has to be playing in the guts. He is being absolutely wasted on a wing. Unbelievable.

Well said.  Langdons wing performances last year and last week show just what top class wing play is about and Gus doesn't have it.  Its another example like trying to turn Nathan into a winger, or finding him a spot.

Sitting on Gus's wing I thought he was very ordinary on the role last week and just watched from afar Langdon's exposition. Inlcuding his 96% TOG.

well the problem is we wouldn't actually get much for Brayshaw, probably only a second rounder with his concussion history and now a foot injury. Viney was the one to trade the last trade period when he was out of contract and Brayshaw could have taken his starting mid position. but it would have been a risky move if Brayshaw then got concussed or had foot issues again.

Clayton Oliver has been genuinely questioning his future. I've heard it personally from connections and it was well documented over the off-season.

Keep living under a rock if you don't believe it.

We've had our talent influx, they've developed, we're meant to be competing for top 4. We were sold this by Roos, we were literally given a clean slate and all the foundation in the world on a silver platter. This is completely on Goodwin now and post season 2018, he hasn't convinced any of us.

If young players who are hitting their prime are sold something from a coach which isn't working, naturally they'll question where they want to be moving forward. And given the magnitude of our drop off from 2018-19, it is as much to do with Goodwin's program as our injury crisis.

I don't think enough of the happy-go-luckies understand what exactly is riding on this season. Unfortunately it ain't just a win/loss season anymore.

It will be more than a loss on the ladder column if this season is a failure. We will begin to see stars wanting to go elsewhere.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
