Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Getting Tickets to the Footy When Crowds Return

Demonland

Recommended Posts

A weekly Grand Final-style ticket ballot for paid-up members is almost certain to be introduced when crowds return to AFL football in Victoria, potentially as early as next month.

As the National Cabinet prepares to ease COVID-19 restrictions from July — which could allow for crowds of 10,000 or more to attend matches — the AFL and its clubs are looking at how they can manage a high demand for tickets when fans are given the green light to attend matches at the MCG, Marvel Stadium and GMHBA Stadium.

A meeting between the clubs and AFL officials on Friday discussed a range of options, but the prospect of a weekly “golden ticket” ballot for members was believed to be the most favoured.

Anyone who purchased a reserved seat with Grand Final Guarantee for 2020 should be first in line for a ticket when the game allows spectators again. (Yes, that includes me). ?

Then people with a reserved seat.

Then anyone else with a club membership.

Any other suggestions?

Agree with that.

The only thing to add is if restrictions continue during the regular season once you have been selected to attend a match you then go to the bottom of the line to at least give everyone a chance to attend.

Yep, that’s fair enough.
I wonder how many reserved seat memberships the MFC has sold this year?

I would be of the opinion that if the crowd limits are eased and more people can attend, then those with the higher grade memberships should have first choice to attend with the tickets then being made available to lower tier memberships or non-members.

I’m both a football club member (full) and a MCC member. If crowds return to the MCG, it’ll be interesting to see what the arrangements are for MCC members. I would expect that Full MCC members would get priority over restricted members and would doubt there will be guest tickets available

All MCC members are required to nominate the club they support.  Tickets should be made available to the Full members of the competing clubs in the first instance, with a ballot process if necessary.

And the same question for AFL members?

I’m really hoping this pandemic changes the MCC’s ridiculous general admission tradition. Paying for a premium membership and then having to line up for hours and put a scarf on your chair to reserve your seat? Hopefully common sense finally prevails.

Where does the rank & file cheer squad sit in this chain of command?

Generally agree with this. Might encourage people to upgrade their club membership to premium levels.

Some tweaking around country members or members with disabilities might be worth exploring.

Certainly the emphasis should be on members, rather than corporate box packages.

Wouldn’t they fall into the GFG category?

Otherwise I’d imagine that the Cheer Squad would have the entire bay behind the goals allocated to themselves which should allow for adequate social distancing.

Wouldn’t that be the logical thing?

Absolutely, flexibility and common sense are key here. No doubt the AFL will find a way to appease their corporate masters within their boxes so standby for it to be a cluster of you know what.

How long is it since you went to a game? For the past 10 years or so seat tickets have been assigned to MCC members on a first come first served basis on the middle tier. There's no longer any need for scarf reservations in my experience but maybe you sit on a different level like P or M?

That is a very small portion of the stand. I’m assuming that to satisfy covid restrictions the MCC will have to be totally ticketed and I hope that continues moving forward.

I wonder how many Melbourne will allocate to AFL members given we have the smallest number of AFL members in the league and most are club or MCC members. As a Gold AFL Member you'd think there would be some priority there in line with those club members that have a guaranteed GF ticket.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
