Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I agree.

However i think there is an issue connecting Omac and Smith in so far as they don't play the same role.

Smith is never going to be a lock down defender on a big. For one thing a good big forward, say a Kennedy or Darling, would simply have to much footy nous for him.

If Oscar doesn't play then May has to be the lock down deep defender for their key big. But most teams have two big forwards and neither Smith or Lever are suited to matching up on them.  Then we have a problem.

if they keep him in defence I can see Smith taking Jetta's spot as he has the speed to go with a small, height and strength to go with a medium and leap to give the bigs a hand if a spoil from the second man in is needed. He would also have a bit more licence to take intercept marks. Used this way he would play a very similar role to Howe at the pies.

In that role Omac could come in to play his  full back, sweeper role allowing May to take the second big and be more attacking than if he has to play deep. It would also mean Lever can focus on the intercept role we brought him to the club to play.

You have my vote binman.

They'll look at matchups in the backline for Oscar's case, but this week doesn't do him any favours.

You'd think it'll be something like;

  • Smith to Stringer
  • May to McKernan
  • Jetta to Tippa
  • Harmes to Devon Smith
  • Lever to the fat side.

Can't see any changes to the back 6 this week.

Didn't know he missed training due to niggle, so that makes more sense. On form, he would've been a lock for round 1. His ball use, pace, defensive zoning, and aggression with tackling make him a key part of our backline going forward IMO. I'd bring him straight in if he's fit.

Think we might struggle to contain Essendons small running brigade without a bit of a rejig to our structure. Lockhart and Pickett should come in.

I’m a big Lockhart fan so would be happy to see him come in. He’s a well rounded player as you say. I think he has a real future at the club.

Reading the scratch match review makes many players sound tempting to slot in - Weid, Vanders, Brown, Lockhart, O Mac, Sparrow, hell even Hannan sounds like he would be a good addition.

One problem we have is vast majority of those who flopped on the weekend were “name players”. We can’t accept performances like we got on the weekend with the opposition slicing us up because our mids refuse to defend. With a full list to choose from, everyone regardless of their surname should be on notice.

And for god’s sake get Harmes into his 1 Wood role: placing a hard tag on the oppo’s best midfielder and being damaging while being led to the ball. Clamp down on Merrett and we’re halfway there.

Interesting listening to May’s presser after training today.

He said the Carlton game was reviewed in the rooms after the match so it’s fresh in their minds and they can start focusing on the Bombers instantly. Don’t mind that. May also touches on Harmes still getting familiar with that half back role. Doesn’t sound like Harmes will be moved out anytime soon.

DB’s injury report has no new casualties, no idea how they will go this week with changes. If Weid is included I’d love just to sit him at FF.

I'd be swapping Jetta and Harmes roles. Ideally though Salem takes Harmes gig,  who goes to midfield  where he belongs .

Not to me. Of our prime midfield of Oliver, Petracca and Viney, which would you swap out for Harmes..?
Oliver was up against Cripps in the middle on Saturday, and was beating him around the ball early, with Cripps cutting lose up forward when Harmes was one of his matchups.
Moving Harmes into the middle isn’t a zero sum game, as someone has to be removed to fit him in...

Can someone help with my memory?

In the corresponding game last year, my recollection is that Goodwin did the following;

Ran Melksham through the centre bounces early where he was forced to apply some effort and had an immediate impact.

Sent TMac down back in the second quarter after which we went on a seven-goal blitz.

How will our so called gun mids learn,  and become accountable,  if we continue to bail them out with a run-with-player in there, doing half the job they have distaste for.?

We can't afford to move Harmes back into mids, as we're trying to refashion the inside-mids, we need to sort thru them,  and get them working harder, and better together.

Big names are heavy to carry around, that takes energy, it seems;  so Oliver and Brayshaw,  just as Petracca last year,  need to work on when they/we,  do-not have the footy.!

These young fellas cruel their teammates too often,  by not giving other players the chop-out they Need.

The have to Stop be lazy in the mind,  when not attacking.

Having Harmes going through the middle doesn’t relieve others of being accountable. If they aren’t doing their job when the ball is in opposition hands then they should come under the same amount of scrutiny irrespective of Harmes’ or anyone else’s role.

It is frustrating seeing our best tagger running off half back. In some respects we struck gold with Harmes and right now he is being wasted.

We need the positions free to work thru our major ball-winners, who can specialise inside. we will I am sure begin to elevate other young mids very sioon, as soon as we startto find some form and wins.

Players like Sparrow, Jordan inside;...  Bedford, &/or Chandler, maybe on a wing.

This is why I think Harmes is down back.. to allow these players to develop and come thru.

He isn't being wasted at all.  You must be just looking at the game ahead of us,  or the game just played.

Footy departments have to look to the growth of the team,  and the longer term view, and planning.

IF we stayed as we were late 2018, then we will quickly fall behind all other clubs.

I remember T Mac hobbling on one leg that night Sku and spending some time on the wing early then a significant amount of time on the pine during that blitz. There was a lot of talk post match about us playing our best footy that night while T Mac was out of the forward line.

I feel Stringer is far too clever and experienced for Stringer.  Hibberd may get a look in. Jetta to Tippa but better have a plan b as Jetta sadly may be slowing.

I can see kozzie coming in and some change in positional movements to suit Bombers. But the strategy seems to be to let these 22 gel to be our best team available.  So the tactic of changing unless critically needed would go against the overall plan. I think Jonesy and Jacko and Smith will have 2 or 3 weeks more. Id hope so or Goody will have been pressured out of his original overall plan.

I believe Brown was stiff to miss based on the following.

His first game was below average and he made some fumbling errors. If he had taken those opportunities he would have been ok ish.  Assuming the Club did not recruit a fumbling player I think he could have been given a pass for his first or second game with a new Club under Covid conditions. I think we may have a future star with Jackson but boy he was no more pysically developed than J Watts at debut. Could have been seriously hurt in the ruck. Poor development

Some of our Best footy in recent seasons was played when TMc was running hard,  high-forward and midfield,  and with Pederson playing follower.  Gawn out injured.

He's sometimes been too clever for himself,  'Hff.

And I can see Hibbo's experience,  could help with the Dons pace and run.

My memory is Tmac play the first three quarters on the forward and kicked 6/7. He got injured just before 3/4 time and did not come back in the last quarter. It was the last quarter when the blues played all over us and we fell in when Harmes kicked our only last quarter goal late in the quarter.

I'm with you. TMac has a huge tank that should be exploited as long as he's playing as a forward. Jackson or Weid have to make the FF possie their own. In fact, long term, why not Egg and Weid forward, and TMac, Lever and May as the talls in the backline?

That is correct od but I thought Skuit was talking about our match against Ess last season.

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
