Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Big test for Gawn as Captain. The fact they sang the song without him may mean quite a bit. Questions for him to address. Is he too playful /  likeable?  Do the players not really respect or look up to him? . Where was the voice of Viney and Jones? are they not backing him up?
Could also have been simply post lockdown , no crowd, weirdness of course. But 1 game into his tenure he’s got questions to confront.

Clarry played a good game yesterday (and Brayshaw was serviceable if not stellar)!

Brayshaw copped a late hit from McKay, was surprised it wasn't a free, near end of 2nd I think. I don't think he was right after that.

Hunt Hasn't been part for the discussions in people's best 22s for quite some time but he showed today some great football smarts and looked fast, sharp and dangerous up forward.  The speed and timing of his leads inside 50 make him look like a handsome, blonde Jason Dunstall.

The timing of his leads is excellent - not too early to pick up opponents like dust - not too late to run into trouble. Worthy of consideration as the decoy forward.

The turning point of the game away Carlton winning clearances after we were right on top.

For a team that is supposed to be good in this area we are really bad in this area.

In round 1 against West Coast and almost all of 2019 it was amazing to see opposition midfielders just walk away from stoppage situations without any pressure.

I hate to say it, but I think part of the problem might be the predictability of Gawn. Also, our midfield lacks depth which is what makes the move of Harmes to the backline all the more puzzling.

Just a question.    How many times, while Goodwin has coached us, have we kicked one goal or less in a half of football.                             Don't win many games with these statistics.

He seems to sit there blind to the obvious, that something needs to change. Motivation, fitness, ability.

Still a win by a point is better than a loss by a point, but I still feel let down.   After that start we should have won by 5 goals.   On field leadership appears missing,  we have no player to grab the game by the throat, or kick a team mate up the behind as motivation or congratulation.  From 5 minutes to go in the second to the last couple of minutes in the last we were watching the blues play footy. Then they woke up again.  Not looking really positive for next week    need a 4 quarter effort......

Great call, his first win as captain should’ve been celebrated. Poor form from the others, and honestly after giving up such a lead they should’ve have been that excited to sing it.

They were 'that excited'. That's why they forgot to check everyone was there. It wasn't just Max. Rivers, Hunt and one other were also late to the party...so they sang it again.

The player's don't need to harden up the so called supporters do. If you can't handle how the team roles harden up or by go home.

But seriously the club needs a new to script writer, last night's script was like that all of last year, except for the ending.

2019 was a great season, you’re not a true supporter of you think otherwise.

Go support another team if you don’t lover everything about this one.

Well I don't know, I am  half guessing you're one of the ones who were crying, and going on about how great of a player we are giving up, but could be wrong, but so many were saying that bulldust last year.

Have you ever posted anything positive after a win, can't recall one positive post ever from you after a win, you are negative after a 10 goal win, so a 1 point win should be no different.

Has to be both body and mind with T Mc.

It's clear he has no agility or strength in the legs. Struggles to turn or jump.

But his mind seems awful as well. When he was shifted forward he got a new lease on life and confidence in a team that could really move the ball and give him a chance to clunk a few.

Now the team is struggling and he's not touching it much and it's clearly in his head. Something needs to change and fast.

Is it possible T Mac cracked the sads that his bother got omitted and hence came in with a poor attitude?

It’s interesting post game where people focus attention. It always seems to be moments that catch us and become the issue and not the overall trend. My immediate reaction was how much 3 up killed us in defence. Yet on reflection a lot of people thought we were too short in defence yet their talls kicked 2 goals and they kicked 7 goals from 48 entries. Granted they fluffed a few we generally defended well based on numbers. Upon reflection after a masterclass first quarter we were blunted at the stoppage, lacked chase through the middle (which we had in spades in the first) and were void of any connection through half forward. This was both the mid and defensive blind kicks to their zone as well as the in ability of our half forward line to have any impact (Melksham, TMac, Jones).

The backline will be the same next week I expect so look forward to the reverse howls about Omac.

I do suspect the forward line will be tinkered with even if that is just to adjust to the MCG and to bring in Kossie.

Yes, total lack of respect and acknowlegemet of whos the leader. And there is footage of him looking really bewildered/dismayed in the second half. Not a critcsm but looked like he was either searching for a way to stop the run on or totally dismayed with some players and the situation.

All the games are clearly showing the affects of the lockdown and how teams are not connecting well and hitting the wall. Though still think we have concerns on how we continue to rollover so easily , dumb decisions kicking to 1v2or3 & which forwards will kick our goals as T Mac looked lost.

It’s going to be a really strange season, Eagles belted last night. Hub locations that will change as the season goes on, no fans, then some fans. Going to be an interesting ride.

You can see we take the foot off the pedal during a match,

After a good win, we'll then drop an easy one.

After we have a good season (2018), We do the same.

I remember hearing Mick Malthouse before the start of the 2019 season saying he didn't expect us to threaten as we have a lazy, rest on your laurels culture.

It's been there for a long time. It's the coaches job to change it.

Smiling and telling the players to be happy after that win seems ridiculous

And Goodwin's press conference where he focused on our 'composure in the last 2 minutes' was just odd. It was a comment you'd make if we'd won by 30+, not fluke a win because they sprayed gettable shots in the end.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
