Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

She'll be right, guys. We'll come good and you'll all be singing the praises of the same guys you're defecating on here.

One of the small joys that comes with losing (and winning so it seems) is the entertainment value of the ill-considered content that people post here - keep it coming!

Obviously not being at the game its hard to tell what our back line structures were like. Carlton were playing quite a few fwd talls high across the ground like McGovern and Casbolt. Harry Mckay seemed to be the main deeper leading forward for most of the game. May obviously had the job on him so I woundn't mind betting Lever was being dragged further up field where those forwards had a real impact later in the game. Makes it very hard to help out in defense which is his strength coming of his man.

Forgot about the draft picks. I know he has a had a lot of injuries but your 100 percent correct. Needs to give much more.

That big bloke playing beside him needs to do likewise.

Its an expensive backline. I miss Frosty and Hibberd.

Huge test for Lever this week coming up against a guy who was deliberately sent out to unsettle him in the grand final in Jacob Townsend.

Townsend is a scrubber and dirty. I watched 2 minutes of the Essendon game and he was swinging arms in tackles and holding opponents down way off the ball. He's exactly the kind of player we should've got rather than Mitch Brown!

Anyway, back to Lever. He can't be physically intimidated by Townsend. Lever is 24, he's a man now. He has to be smarter, more skilled and tougher than Townsend.

Thanks Mrs Lever.

I do hope you are correct.

We ( most of us at least) do love singing praises when we win more often.

Townsend will probably be dropped and is the last player we needed.

Lever will get better once he and May, Smith and Jetta have played together.  But he was not effective on Saturday and Goodwin will need to see if Lever plays as a key back OR as a 3rd tall intercept defender. His excellent Crows form was the latter.
We gave up a lot for Lever with 2 x 1st round draft picks and so rightly can be asking about his “A” grade status.

Agree...

I was thankful for him when he took that mark in the dying minutes.... Then he kicked it to Fritsch in a 3 v 1. Wtf? Hoping we just had a lot of rust

He played the last minute beautifully with experience. go watch the replay, he read they were going to go long under pressure and Martin was in the wrong position for an impossible kick under pressure from Walsh. When he marked the ball it was ALL carlton everywhere on his side. He kicked to Fritsch advantage whilst outnumbered and we got the ball back when others arrived. we were gone if he didn't do that. dead in the water.

But some one here just think he should have pinpointed a perfect pass to the non existent teammate ?!?!?

He had 2 defenders next to him to just chip a short pass to. They weren’t moving for him which was disgraceful but he could’ve demanded it.

A 4 on 2 wasn’t a good result, it was more luck than anything that the kick fell to the late arriving Dees players.

Agree on both points.

Inexcusable someone didn't gut run to space to provide an option. In addition to giving him the option of passing it to that player it might have dragged players away from the fritter contest or from the other side giving him a chance to cross to a free player there.

Also why didn't some of our bigger players gut run to the fritter contest given that was the most likely spot Lever was gong to kick it and there was time to do so?

And we were totally lucky we won that ball. The blues stuffed up not doing so as they the numerical advantage and couldn't take clean possessions. Once they failed to win that ball it was game over

Agree he has not been in form, has some weaknesses etc. But at his best he is a gun who reads the play beautifully, and will be an integral part of our next 8 years.

Yes we have up two first round picks but it was 10 and 19, not 5 and 8. The trade was equivalent to "Lever and 72" for "pick 8". That's less than we paid for May and about the same we paid for Weideman.

He will play 180 games for us if he stays injury free from here on it. It was a good deal.

Getting 35 and 47 back never seems to be mentioned here. “ 2 first rounders”:is all most want to say. I’m a lever fan and believe he will be worth it.

Jake is easy to explain.  He's a great third tall.  His best game is when you have two other tall backs to take on the big forwards and he can read the play and float in as third man in the contest.  Trying to play him as a KPD is taking away all of his strengths and exposing his weaknesses.

Yes i agree.

But he wasn't worth two first round draft picks RM.

His two games so far this season hasn't been exactly promising.

He has time on his hands, but based on output so far and how much we've given up for, he has been disappointing. I am not including last year as i am willing to cut him slack.

Anyway I have already mentioned this a few pages back so I dont want to keep banging on about.

I expect a much improved performance on the weekend.

The only reasonable option he had other than the long kick to the wing was Langdon, who was running into the pocket to his left. From the looks of Lever's reaction when he marked it, he was trying to take a few seconds off the clock before kicking. I don't think that's unreasonable, and I think he would have hoped/expected that the players up the ground would move towards the open wing to create options.

Agree with this. As deanox has pointed out, it was the equivalent of Lever and 72 for pick 8. So it's really one first round draft pick, not two. Half the cost that most people suggest. And in the context of where our list sat at the end of 2017, the complete correct decision (despite the fact he could be playing better).

This.

I reckon we paid overs but that is the very definition of a moot point now.

And besides we recruited him to plays a specific role. One that needs other players doing their job to make it work (which is one reason we paid overs as his success depends on other factors). As was the case at the crows.

So his value is dependent on getting the other pieces of the puzzle right.

On that i really don't understand how Smith fits. Lever needs a player like omac or petty in the side. May is not enough, particularly because they have asked him to slim down, play higher and be more offensive than he was at gc.

My take is that draft picks are risky.

https://www.draftguru.com.au/analysis/pick-value-comparison

Pick 6-10 averages 120 games. That basically means 1 in 2 players drafted in that range have a great career and the others get a lot of games to try.

1.7 picks are needed to get a 100 gamer in that range. 6 picks are needed to get an All Australian.

For anyone concerned about taking pick 10 and pick 19, those stats should put your mind at ease.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
