Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Sparrow and Petty will never be moved on. They are two of the very few young players on our list with the potential to be very good long term players.

The delist column will be much longer if the AFL are able to reduce list sizes. Not sure why either Chandler or Dunkley would get a third year on the rookie list.

I reckon its more likely that the Crows will be interested in Sparrow and Petty than Port.

if they're rebuilding it might suit them to come looking for a couple of SA boys who have been developing in the system for a couple of years already but are yet to get any sort of decent crack at it. they could pick up an inside mid and a key tall who are both ready to play and speed up their rebuild.

Adelaide will be near the bottom they won't give pick 3 or 4 for Sparrow and Petty. Port may have pick 11 or 12. If we can get a pick like that for a kid that won't get a game in our midfield and an injury prone tall I would take it.

SPARROW AND PETTY FOR PORT'S FIRST RND PICK.

Werridee, why would anyone think Port would give up a first round pick for these two?

P.S. And stop shouting!!

we wont be getting a first round pick from anyone for them. I think you're over rating their value.

Sparrow was a mid second round pick who has played two games. there's plenty of midfielders in the draft, he's not worth that much on the trade table. and Petty was a late second rounder who has played more games but has been moved around back and forward and hasn't really done that much to date. combined you'd probably be lucky to get a second round pick and a half decent player back.

So much is going to change before the end of the year, impossible to get a read.

whats i would say is

Weideman, Oscar, ANB, Spargo,  in particular need to step up and cement a spot or they're a chance to be moved on at years end

In terms of trade targets, Darcy Tucker from Freo across half back is the type of player we need. Seen him a few times now and like his style. Tough kid. Great footskills and accurate delivery. Hopefully we might get in his ear for a return to VIC.

OK.   I haven't watched him play.

Does he have any speed.?  endurance.?   What else can you tell us.?   Skills for other positions.?

Tough halfback or mid. Signed at Freo until end 2021. Elite disposal. He will be 24yo next year so will look at min.3 year contract. We need elite disposal and toughness. Hard to find imo. “Warriors only need apply”

it's literally two games into the season so a titch early in this crazy year but this is the sort of stuff i love pondering...so i'll play

firstly, i would rather get hogan back than daniher - at least one of them can get on the park, even if he looked horrible tonight

who has potential value and best 22 possibilities at other clubs but MIGHT be excess on our list? i'd say there's only a few players that have genuine value on our list that i would be comfortable parting with:

  • viney (free agency compensation)
  • brayshaw
  • preuss (crazy that he has value, but ruckmen always seem to find a home)
  • hunt
  • anb

personally i would say it's either viney OR brayshaw as inside mids, and hunt OR anb as forward options

who needs inside mids? carlton, essendon, fremantle, geelong (regeneration), saints maybe

brayshaw, ollie wines, the crouch bros. could all be inside mids looking for new homes in 2021 - get a first rounder for gus from any of the above clubs and my jaw would hit the ground; i struggle with what he's worth cos sometimes he plays and i think he's worth less than a third rounder on the trade table

who needs small pressure forwards? well, pretty much anyone other than st. kilda and the tigers, who seem to have a heap of small forward types, want depth in this position and hunt has a real bonus of speed in his arsenal

given that anb is an sa boy, i personally think he'd slot in nicely at the crows - if we could engineer it to get rory laird as part of the deal i'd be pretty pleased...it would be interesting if the crows demanded anb and sparrow for laird, which i'd be somewhat tempted to do tbh, but the reality is i think they think laird's worth a first round pick...so......

who needs a ruck, or at least a second option? essendon, maybe sydney with naismith doing another acl, but other than that there might not be much demand for one this year

we traded tyson for preuss and a late pick (which we used to draft hore, who - you never know - pies might want to bring him home as an intercept half back next year as coverage for howe), so it's not likely he has much value - we might do preuss and our second rounder for essendon's second rounder, say, or perhaps preuss and brayshaw for essendon's first rounder, which we use get laird

meanwhile, hore and our third rounder for the filth's second rounder?

net result:
IN: laird, 2020 2nd round draft pick
OUT: brayshaw, preuss, hore

it all comes down to list changes, but if say it is suddenly 35 on the list and only having to use two picks at the 2020 draft, i'd go with the following list changes:

  • Jones - retirement
  • Hibberd - retirement / delisted
  • Kolodjashnij - retirement / negotiated payout
  • Nietschke - retired / delisted
  • Baker - delisted
  • Chandler - delisted
  • C Wagner - delisted
  • J Wagner - delisted
  • Dunkley - delisted

it's going to be pretty brutal if it's a reduction to 35 on the list (worse still if we have to carry kk) and i don't think any of the above would have much value to any other clubs

it's possible the likes of weideman or o mac might have value at the trade table...but for what? if you only have to use the two picks this year, you'd want it to be a future pick, and i don't think either is worth much more than a speculative third rounder...at best

i can't see either having much value for other clubs - if they can't make our side, not sure whose they would be making - so they might both prefer to stay with us and fight for their spot, plus of the two only o mac is out of contract at the end of 2020 anyway

35 players really doesn't seem like enough to get through a full 22 game, 120 min per game season to me, but if the above happened this would be the mfc 2021 list:

  1. May
  2. Salem
  3. Harmes
  4. Jackson
  5. Viney
  6. Lever
  7. Spargo
  8. Gawn
  9. Bedford
  10. Oliver
  11. Langdon
  12. Bennell
  13. Melksham
  14. Hannan
  15. Tomlinson
  16. vandenBerg
  17. Jordon
  18. Rivers
  19. T McDonald
  20. Weideman
  21. O McDonald
  22. Hunt
  23. Neal-Bullen
  24. Fritsch
  25. Sparrow
  26. Petty
  27. Pickett
  28. Brown
  29. Jetta
  30. Lockhart
  31. Smith
  32. Bradtke
  33. Laird
  34. 2020 2nd round pick
  35. 2020 2nd round pick (the filth's)

possible side, based on what we're putting out vs geelong and what we ran with against carlton...

B: Lockhart - May - Smith
HB: Salem - Lever - Harmes
C : Langdon - Petracca - Laird
HF: Hannan - T Mac - Melksham
F: Hunt - Fritsch - Pickett
Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney
I/c: Jackson - Bennell - Tomlinson - vandenBerg
Emerg: Sparrow - Weideman - ANB - Jetta

We have only one guy on our list who has kicked more than 35 goals in a season. Once.

We have abundance of contested mids.

Viney + 1st rounder for jeremy cameron (via essedon etc) has to be a year end consideration.

Fwiw, in 2018 we were 9-6 without jv.

He's a fantastic player but if there's one team in the afl that can give up an inside mid for a key forward to correctly balance their list, its mfc.

Apologies to all. I was only raising this thread to highlight Darcy Tucker as the type of player we need.  Tough. Elite skills. Good pace.

Salem hasn’t quite developed into a midfielder nor the Birchall-Houli-type quarterback halfback.  I really do hope Salem steps up as our half back this year as he is reaching 24 now (25 soon) and should be at his prime years.

By the way, I’m keeping Brayshaw,Harmes, Viney, Preuss. Etc.

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him.
