Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

mckernan from only 16 games tho

that hunt was our top ranked marking player i50 followed by fritsch - who barely played there til the last five or so games of the year - says volumes

Of course.  Plus Tom McDonald missed a large chunk of the season as well, and Weideman was injured too.

Either way, I don't think we're too different from the Bombers with their forward structure.

Busy week for Coach Goodwin

Since we are due to play both Essendon and Sydney in the next few weeks, one would expect Goodwin watched the game closely.

I hope that he’s worked out a forward strategy that doesn’t involve us in constantly kicking to a one on two situation in front of goal where we constantly cough up the footy time and again. I didn’t see much of that in the game at the SCG or anywhere else other than our forward line over the weekend.

This has to be fixed.

Stringer took 30 less marks than Trac last season.

Forwards have to contributor to goals scored.   Check their stats against one another, that will show more.?

Speed and skill will be important for us,  against them, I have a feeling.   So this current weeks selections,  should help again.?

Saints looking good...

They have gained even more zip / run at ground level which is a real worry given we haven't been able to match them in this area (or other similar style teams) in the past 3 years or so.  Early days but the injection of Hill and Butler seems like decent selections.  The younger Jones not too shabby either.  The Doggies are usually rated in this same area also so if that;'s anything to go by the Saints will be one to watch this season.

Both Essendon and Sydney spent a lot of time patiently working the ball across the flank looking for that next neat kick forward to open up.

They also both looked easily rattled once those neat kicks weren't available. I think the dominance and harassment we displayed in the first quarter could be even more effective against either of these two teams.

Also, Carlton's game relied on the quality vision and kicking of Simpson, Murphy, et al directed to their tall forwards on long leads to the wing to create connections.  I don't think Essendon or Sydney can rely on the same connection quality on either count.

But for all that, if I were a Melbourne coach I'd still spent this week sweating over how to handle Essendon's fleet of smalls and medium players up forward.

A few ins and outs might be needed SW.  Aside from a few individuals we looked horribly one paced and in the main pretty sluggish after quarter time  yesterday.  Ball movement obviously is part of the issue but our kicking skills / decision making also seemed to fall away badly after about half way through the second.

Hopefully better for the run

Stringer was present around the ground a bit more last season, but almost like a mirror of Petracca's times, 60/40 vs 40/60 forward/midfield.  However, Petracca is thoroughly reinvented for 2020 and in the meantime, Stringer has had 16 disposals this season, only 7 of them have been effective, and 5 of those effective ones have been goals! More than half his marks have been inside 50, and incredibly, 15 of his 16 disposals have been either shots on goal or inside 50s!

So Stringer is definitely a full-time forward now. Think of him as what we would have if Petracca never bothered to get fit

We know they can do it, if they are in the mood for some hard work....

McKernan is okay.  Yes, he's kicked a couple after half time, but he's only an average player.

And Stringer isn't a tall target.  He's like Petracca.  You need bigger blokes than that propping up your forward line.

He kicked 4 goals against us last year.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
