Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Being brutal about the players listed for contract renewal in 2020 it would seem that only Viney and Fritsch are certainties. Lots of others are probables (some more than others) but there's a few that could be hit by list reductions if they occur.

Big year for quite a few of those on Lucifer's 2020 renewal list.

Yes DJ, lots of probables and highlights how ridiculous it is to have so many professional footballers at 18 clubs.  Hardly elite when you have something like 600-700 players in one code in a country the size of Australia.

Fritsch to me is a good "icing" player, he'll do well when the team's going well but I can't see him grabbing a game and imposing himself on it when things aren't going our way. Maybe just my perception because of his size but I haven't seen it yet.

Not saying get rid of him by any means but I don't see him getting a podium finish in the B&F so his salary needs to be commensurate with his abilities

No disrespect to Fritta, but I think season will really show if he has what it takes or not.  While he oozes natural talent, footy smarts and courage, up to this point the expectations and pressure on him has been modest.

It's not like he has been given a free ride up until this point and I'm sure it only would have taken a few weeks of handy 2 to 3 goal hauls and goal assists for him to have attracted the attention and respect of opposition coaches and been marked with quality defenders.  However, I will be interested (and hopeful in the affirmative) to see if Bailey can stamp his name as a consistent and reliable scoring machine over the whole season.

My perception is that Fritch is a fair bit grittier than your average 'icing' type of player.  We weren't exactly flying in the back half of last year when after being thrown forward in somewhat despiration, he kicked a number of big bags of goals and provided a good focal point.

Hnmm I see Bailey Fritsch as the sort of player that if nurtured Correctly( Sheeeeit haven't we had a great history there) Might just become our next Adem Yze , Brad Green type. And of course they grow on trees Not!!!!

The other thing I have noticed about him is that NONCHALANT Rob Flower Yze effect of floating across a pack to take a mark.

I would HATE to see him go..... a rare treasure in a pit in a somewhat empty trove!!

KEEP !!

we're going to have to cut at least ten players from our list - as are all clubs - so it'll be interesting to see what value, if any, many of the players likely to be on the way out have

you'd think of those on the uncontracted list, only viney, fritsch and to a lesser extent hunt would be potentially attractive to another club

anyway, i would hope the first two are going nowhere at the end of the year...although i guess we should wait and see how 2020 plays out before making any list management murmurs...

If we get rid of any of our top 25 players the club is a disgrace. We finished 2nd last we shouldn't have a problem with the salary cap.

Players that we must keep. JETTA, MAY, LEVER, SALEM, O.MCDONALD, HIBBERD, LANGDON, PETRACCA, TOMLINSON, PICKETT, T.MCDONALD, JONES, MELKSHAM, WEIDEMAN, FRITSCH, GAWN, OLIVER, VINEY, HARMES, BRAYSHAW, LOCKHART, BENNELL, PETTY, VANDENBERG AND HANNAN.

If the AFL get their way and reduce lists to 35 next year, which presumably needs to be 32 before the draft, then most of our OOC players are in a world of trouble.

Maybe 10 out of 23 survive, which will clearly include Viney, Petracca, Fritsch, Petty & Sparrow. I'd keep McDonald and Lockhart, and probably Bennell if he gets on the field this year. That leaves very few spots for the rest to fight over.

I reckon the Crows will be into Sparrow this year. he's a SA boy and he hasn't cracked into our team yet, just a game or two, and the Crows will be desperate for some big bodied mids at the end of the year. we could probably afford to let him go too, but i'm not sure what we'd get for him though.

If they cut the lists there will have to be a mechanism where you can also pay out contracted players. To have the whole cut fall on OOC players doesn't make sense on so many levels.

It may also rescue Sydney from their Buddy deal (grrrrrrrr)

atm there are probably 5 players with an existing contract past year-end who would consider themselves very lucky if they are exempt from pruning. agree this not very sensible and they might develop an exit mechanism, but it will be messy whichever way it goes.

There's no way they can reduce lists that dramatically - clubs have contracts with players which will make that impossible. If anything they'll have to stagger it over 3-5 years.

Fritsch needs to work on his set shot kicking if he wants to go places in the league.

Is a good snap shot and good on the run but his elementary set shots for goal leaves a lot to be desired.

Had a poor round 1 with 0.2. Looking forward to a better showing vs Carlton.

He's a thumping kick but just needs to tighten up this area with routine consistency in front of goal. Would hope we lock him in.

And, RBG, it appeared as though he did so, rather easily. He is a man belonging in a good team.

Player managers fear a middle-class squeeze that will see the league’s reliable role players sacrificed so clubs can stay under a smaller 2021 salary cap.

AFL football operations boss Steve Hocking on Wednesday confirmed little work had been done on the salary cap or list cuts as key industry figures fear key decisions are months away.

List managers and player agents are still none the wiser on when they will be able to contract players again as players begin to express their anxiousness about 2021 contracts.

BAYLEY FRITSCH (MELBOURNE)

Jack Viney is the free agent the Demons will want to lock away but Fritsch has turned into a sneaky-good utility who can play anywhere and kicked 17 and 20 goals in his first two years. Can he go big and turn a 30-plus goal year into some serious leverage?

This the same Jon Ralph?

"The Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph reports clubs including North Melbourne, Melbourne and Carlton have around half of their lists currently contracted into 2021 and beyond. In turn they have sizeable portions of their salary caps available to use.

That is becoming particularly important with many players unwilling to accept looming pay cuts of as much as 20 to 25 per cent."

AFL stars ‘not willing’ to take pay cuts may cause trade bonanza, with three clubs to benefit

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
