Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

how about we see how he goes in a match first before he replaces a proven player who was all australian in recent years.

Even All Australian careers come to an end.

Hibberd had an average season in 2019 and his first game this year wasn't good.

As for Rivers, well we can only go on training reports as there will be no VFL this year...but his last game against North in pre season was very good.

He may not get up for the first game back but he is at least putting the pressure on a few of the senior players and should be ahead of Wagner and Hore for a call up.

No [censored] Sherlock. No riddle this time?
I think it’s been established that’s he’s well and truly in the mix.

I hope you are right GNF. I could see him roving to Maxy in a clip. I wonder how many D'landers are busy recasting their best 22 for the blues... with Harley as a midfielder!!?

nah, that's consistent forward line pressure

i can completely understand why anb holds his spot despite his woeful disposal - he runs all day and works hard defensively, something that few in our side seem to be capable of doing consistently

Sounds like there is some chance that Kossie, Bedford, Jackson, Rivers and Bennell all may play. quite like the idea of Bennell, Kossie and Bedford all buzzing around the forward line with TMac, Jackson and Melksham

Joel Smith also talked up highly by Chaplin and Richardson.

I actually like this a lot!! Care to put into positions??

Sure I envision the team being:

In: Weid, Vanders, Smith, Bennell, Jones, Salem.

Out: Brown, Spargo, Hibberd, ANB, Lockhart and Bedford.

Jetta           May      Lever

Salem         OMac   Smith

Langdon    Viney    Tomlinson

Melksham  TMac  Harmes

Bennell        Weid    Fritch

Gawn         Oliver   Petracca

Jones, Kozi, Brayshaw,  Vanders

Coaches want Harmes in the backline but I think you get the athleticism and rebound through Smith.

Rolling through the midfield you can put: Viney, Oliver, Petracca, Brayshaw, Harmes, Salem, Bennell, Vanders, Jones and Melksham.

In the podcast Inside Melbourne, they seem to be floating the possibility of taking OMac out for Smith and sounds like they are looking at Lockhart as coming into the back line. In that case I would put Jones on to start and Lockhart starting off the bench. Probably a better side actually, better rebounding side anyway.

I will proberly see half if I am lucky dworship as I guess that is all we will get on free to air.

I actually like going to matches when I cannot do that my interest drops considerably.

Perhaps I am just old and tired of constant losses, at least in mid June this year we are still in the hunt for a finals berth.

Mrs W and I get to about 11 or 12 live games each season and so we are really missing it this year. She of course pointed out today that we will miss the QB game on Monday. I replied inappropriately and got the death stare.

I find the losses and the lack of a Premiership a bit like a kidney stone, I still hope it will pass. Yes, it will be painful but the relief will be joyous, I just hope I'm here to feel it. So each season I have high hopes and if it doesn't come to be then I will hope the pain will end the next season. Along the way I try to enjoy the small relief of a TMac miracle goal, a Jurrah mark, a Jetta defensive effort, a Davey rundown tackle, a Viney or AVB hurt the opposition moment or  a Hannan run and goal.

Troy Chaplin very bullish on Lockhart and Rivers in the latest official podcast

And he was a big wrap for Joel Smith, talking about his unparalleled athletic endurance! I was not aware of this, watching him only at training. It is obvious he has natural footy ability and is a natural forward but understand their thinking of throwing him back. But it is interesting if he has always had endurance and he does have some leg speed why hasn’t he been tried on the wing? Ok that maybe just because he is always injured.

No one mentions that Steve May is suffering from a d1ckie back. Not 100% sure he is ok to go.

My other thought about May is that like a certain No. 9 from 20 years ago, he might go from full back to Full Forward if we are deficient in forwards (TMac, Weid) that cant regain form. That is his original spot when 1st recruited. Tough, uncompromising, pack-breaking, great kick. Good target.

I must of listened to a different podcast . I heard Richo talk about his ability "to cover the ground". I'm not sure how that has morphed into your statement. Are you involved in the media like SWYL?

Has anything else been reported on this apart from the news vision last night Damo? Hopefully it’s nothing but a bit of a back rub.

No Zeph thats all Ive seen. Jumping at shadows maybe. But all players being fit we need to prepare for Essendon in Round 3.

Id be surprised if we dont have 3 decent injuries from the 1st game. Hope not, but Im a pessimist.  I expect all teams to leave nothing out for the 2nd round.

Im also pessimistic in assuming we D'landers will be talking us up as the greatest team of all time before the game. I always get sucked in...

I am going to try to employ the Stockdale Paradox next week - you must retain faith that you will prevail in the end, regardless of the difficulties. AND at the same time… You must be disciplined and confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they might be.

No I read this on MFC media site where Troy Chaplin was talking about the backline options for round 2. Was surprised to hear his summation of Joel, superior leg speed and endurance. Sounds to me like he might be in round 2 based on that. I wasn’t aware of his endurance capability. I have always liked him as a footballer, he looks like a natural, he just can’t get a run at it and maybe never will.

Apologies Earl, I didn't realise you were quoting Chaplin. I went and had a look and his comment "I’ve never seen an athlete capable of what he is in terms of endurance, but the repeat efforts, the speed, and when he’s in that group he adds something different." Certainly sounds good. I still don't think he will be selected in the next game but I've been wrong before. Regardless it's nice to have this pressure on selection.

Regarding my media comment; clearly you have been accurate and yes I have a low opinion of much of the media. Having said that; I have mellowed a lot towards the Dee's media department in recent times.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
