Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This forum has been debating the topic a lot longer than when Gary Lyon said it. Heck, Goodys coaching (high press goal leakage out the back, lack of outside pace, honeypot mentality and inside 50 conversion) has all been under the microscope even before our famous finals run, for years now. You'd know that if you posted on DL..

i don't see how it's feasible to ditch goodwin at the end of 2020 regardless of our results

we can't afford to pay out / negotiate a way out of two years of his contract, as he's signed til the end of 2022

i certainly wouldn't be looking at ross lyon as an option

If a 2020 end of year sacking and payout produced a finals turnaround in 2021 with a new coach, how much would that recoup losses on a payout? Especially if you compare it to holding on too long and Goody writing off our 2021 season and being sacked anyway with a smaller payout.

I'd prefer Yze has been under the coach of the century. Hawthorn have a pretty good record with their assistant coaches with the exception of Bolton.

Yeah but Bolton never played at 'Elite"level... Adem however carries the same number as Clarry 13 both sensational!

Er Bolton ..... Not a chance of a snowflake in Hell!

Just an aside on things, the club will be financially stuffed from this year after coronavirus. The league is going to be stuffed for a while with spending already being cut in certain areas. While I wouldn't say that means every contracted coach is 100% safe as houses, I do think that it would take a disastrously bad season (think Mark Neeld) for a club to sack a coach with another season to run. The clubs just don't have the cash to pay them out and the league doesn't have the money to bail them out.

I'd be shocked if Goodwin isn't at the helm next year.

Goodwin won't be sacked, he just may not get another contract.

This year has basically granted Goodwin a get out of jail free card. Whether he needs to play that card is yet to be determined. He'll be coaching in 2021 regardless of how we go this year.

Even as someone that isn't fond of Goodwin's coaching, I'd be [censored] at the club if they went through the process of sacking him and paying him out, and then going through the hiring process (and likely overpaying) for another coach. It would be irresponsible at this point.

Has Simon Goodwin failed as a coach? He introduced the gameplan whilst under Paul Roos that provided the drastically improved scoring in Roos's 3rd year.

He led the team to missing finals by percentage in 2017 and then continued growth in 2018.

2019 was disappointing.

2020, 1 game has been played. Bad game. The coaching team will address the shortcomings, or if not, then you may have some good points about his lack of prowess in coaching.

To me, the game plan is sound, execution at critical moments has been oscillating.

Goodwin brings good people management, we have good player development and he has sound tactical knowledge of football. These are critical in an elite football club.

There is a strong case for staying the course.

From what I saw in round 1, it's not looking good, but the apologists will no doubt blame it on an external factor rather than judging the product that was delivered on the field. According to Lever, the club was fuming after its performance rather than patting themselves on the back for out scoring West Coast 2 goals to 1 in the last quarter.

While I don't want to be considered an apologist, some factors make the loss a bit easier to take.

We know of the external factors that affected the game, like the competition being cancelled 30 minutes before we played, the hotel shift where the boys obviously had a disrupted sleep, the threat of being stuck in WA and playing at the Eagles dung heap. I can't wait for JnrMac to attack me over mentioning them.

However, aside from a wasted first quarter we matched the Eagles for the rest of the day. We again were wasteful with our ball use and while we seemed to miss every opportunity that we had in the first quarter, the Eagles grabbed every one of their limited ones. I think from memory that once again we had more inside 50"s than the Eagles, but just wasted the chances. We missed set shots and snaps while they seemed to roll them in from everywhere.

We also played a couple of debutants, who actually showed something and remember they are a very experienced and successful team playing at home.

Our effort in my opinion was reasonable and nothing like the 2018 PF which was crap.

We have a season to build on and IMO the loss was neither unexpected or terrible.

We must fix up our forward 50 entries and ball use if we want to succeed long term.

I wonder what the result would have been playing at the G with the same external circumstances affecting the Eagles.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
