Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Like many here I will continue to pay my membership as it's currently well within my capacity to do so, but equally understand if people have to make hard decisions to support their families in times of finacial stress, that football club memberships could and probably should be one of the first things to go.

What would be nice though is for the club and/or AFL to recognise and reward the suport of those members who remain faithful with some kind of token gesture like free access to premium/reserved seating and/or increased access to the players.  I know my youngest son for instance would be absolutely stoked to get a phone call/face time call from Max Gawn, Tommy Mac or any number of his other favorite players and maybe it could also have a positive impact on for the playing group as well.

Good idea, send it to the club to do.  Give them something to do in their isolation :). My daughter would love a call from Viney as she plays like him, ferocious at the ball or player if they have it (Her team mates don't like training with her on contest/tackling drills).  Plus I get her to watch how Viney plays on games esp. round 1 this year as how you should play the game.

I will continue pay mine as I can afford it luckily, but certainly accept those that can't should be looked after, for they will return when things get netter for them, as they will always remember the support form the club.  As Eddie said, we are a family in the end.

The question was a totally unnecessary set up.  If Eddie had answered with a clear "yes", what do you think would have been the outcome which, by the way, would have had a ripple on effect to all other clubs in the competition.  If he had answered"no", the press would have turned it into a story about a club that doesn't care about its supporters and other clubs would then be under pressure to not be the same.

By suggesting that the club is there to help financially stressed members as much as they can, he is saying precisely the right thing.

Respectfully disagree.

He could easily have said said that "yes we will refund if requested, but we also worry about the clubs financial situation if too many people make that request" or something similar. Instead he did a Donald and attacked the questioner. If he actually meant it when he said "we are here to help financially stressed members" then my example was much closer to the truth than his answer.

The question was straightforward, and he lost his mind.

P.S. i only re-signed for my MFC Membership after round 1 and have no intention of asking for a refund.

It's really a no win situation for Eddie or any club when asked about refunding memberships.  If he answers "yes" the'll be more people seeking refunds at a time when clubs need them most.  if he answers "no" the follow up question is "why not?, people are struggling".

Or what about Melbourne V Freo - 2008. A bit of a come from behind win to say the least.

The home teams from round 2 were the winners in each classic game they showed last week, aside from the North V Brisbane 2003 draw. So I expect a Melbourne win will be shown. Conversely next week for St Kilda V Melboune they'll show a St Kilda win.

They should just give each club a classic encounter, where they win, and put it on each club’s website. Everyone’s happy! Might also put the feelgood factor about and encourage people to leave their membership intact!

That was a completely bizarre overreaction to soft-ball question... which raises the bigger question, where has Eddie invested all of Collingwood's money..?

I'm a long-term Redlegs member who lives interstate.  I always regard my annual membership as a donation to the best football club in the world.  Nothing has changed.

Whilst it understandable that fans might forgo memberships due to imminent  financial hardship it is pointless asking for a refund from clubs that likely have no money left and can’t pay the bills for starters. The money is gone and best forget it.

Well Ding, let’s remember we’re talking about Collingwood supporters here. As most people are working from home now, break-ins are virtually impossible, so if Eddie had answered “yes”, they’d have been queuing up around the block 5 minutes later, for their refunds.

Yes  true...under NORMAL circumstances. Pulling money out of the club right now just feels so harmful that I hope peoples  circumstances would have to be really tough to do so .

that's totally up to the individuals themselves and for their reasons whatever they may be

and it's not up to others to even question their reasons for doing so or pass any judgement

i''ll probably leave mine there,  though it doesn't add up to much

I payed mine, as usual, with the automatic rollover back in October(?) so it is well and truly financial history for me.

However, as dc rightly says above, everyone will have different circumstances.

I have considered mine a charitable donation for many years Bbo.

Why would I want it back this year? What I want back and will never get is my love of the players after their money grabbing ways of the last few weeks.

I agree. Also, if you paid your money at the time, you had the money for a membership. By not attending games, you are now potentially also saving money. No expensive food, beers and the cost of travel. I understand people are now in need of money, but for those that are requesting a refund, it’s kind of like buying an item and then realising you want the money for something else and asking for it back. It’s not the club’s fault that they can’t offer you a game. Stick with them. The money was gone long before this hit. If you are on a monthly payment, I can understand if you asked for a 3 month suspension of the deduction, that is reasonable.

In these dark days, members that ask for a refund of already paid dues are equivalent to fair weather supporters and rats leaving a sinking ship. As I said before the money won’t got far and relief will be fleeting and minuscule. From buying a few rolls of toilet paper to a small fraction of ones monthly  house mortgage then it will all be gone. The clubs futures are at stake and extinction looms on the horizon. Once gone they may never come back.

I’ve been a MFC Member since 1988 an MCC Member since 2004, and like others, I will consider my continuing full MCG Membership payment as an ongoing donation to the club. Games or otherwise, it’s not too small of a sacrifice to keep the club afloat if you can afford to do so

Let's hope they don't show the replay when we played against St Kilda in 2015 when we couldn't hold for the last 30 seconds left in the game

No they are not "fair weather supporters". Many are people in dire circumstances in an economic disaster that, at this stage dwarfs  the great depression.

They showed their loyalty by signing up now they have more important priorities like toilet paper and life's basic necessites

Clearly not if you are a Collingwood member:

It is next to impossible to attempt to make a fool out of an actual, ego-maniacal idiot. However and although I hate to say it out loud, I agree with some of what Eddie McGuire might have said.

Membership fees are paid to the football club to support its operations and essential requirements, the trend is to receive something back from the club. In these difficult times, football operations had to cease leaving clubs facing enormous, regular costs of many varied necessities despite no football revenues or dispensations from the flocks of crowds they may attract.

The membership fee assists to support the club. In hard times, the support needs to be greater from supporters and the viewing public. For this reason I would have no hesitation resisting the calls for return of membership fees and cannot request or accept a return in kind during such hard times. If things were rosey this year, the MFC would deliver, as far as I am concerned. I want to seriously support the MFC in any way that I can - so that the Club and its entourage emerges with as little damage as possible on the other side of this calamitous pandemic; if that support turns out to be financial based upon my (our) earlier and annual commitments to the Club in a fee-paying advance, so be it.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
