Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Oscar beat Darling.

Harsh

Agree Oscar did his job. We just don't seem to have improved our inside fifty structure or tactics and poor delivery. We work hard but have no skill or footy smarts. We have recruited Ed Langdon who is the perfect example of what our team is hard working and lacking skill/smarts

Pickett, Viney, Lockhart and Bedford were the positives..

Where was our leaders? McDonald, Jetta, Melksham?

Hibberd is finished, see ya. And im afraid to say, but Jetta is just about cooked.

ANB and Spargo are dead set suburban footballers.

I agree with everything you wrote and you can add Max to the leaders group.  Strangely lacklustre performance from the Captain in his first game in the role.

I  can't understand how coming off the back of 2019 we could come out with such a lack of intensity.  Gerard Healy made a very good point that all our midfielders tend to get possessions around each other with very few moving forward of the ball. There were a lot of examples of lazy defensive running.

Funny game (season) that.  Better intensity at times, but we didn’t apply any pressure to stop easy transitions, didnt two way run, and didnt spread.  We had a few players who were really good (Viney), Max who worked his way into it after being well beaten, and a great start in Kozzy.  Glad to see his family there.

late in the game, it seemed that the care had completely gone.  Hardly a tackle and circle work for the  most part after half time.

I cannot comprehend the entry into 50.  The Weagles just set up to intercept our long bombs, as they have for the last 3 years.  They flooded back much better, and we rarely had a spare inside 50.  We should have instructed the guys to run it over the 50, rather than kick it.

Much to work with (and on).  3 months may not be long enough.

They got told 30 mins before the game the season was on hold (but in reality likely finished).

They are on the other side of the country in a ghost town (even when not under semi lock down).

Talk here on dl that they had to move hotels.

They face a 12 hour trip home.

They are by and large a bunch of young guys.

Agree. Let's cut them some slack.

Feels deeper than one or two players. We were pretty much making it look hard all over the ground. To be fair they’re a very very good side....and to be fair we’re just not.  Unfortunately I think a 5 goal loss is a good result for the mediocre team we are.

But then you look at the forward chances that are gone before the ball even arrives because we just kick blindly to a contest or worse to the opposition

When Petty is fit, goodbye O Mac.

Hurrah! Now there would seem to be no more games left to make that change. How terribly 'Goodwin-ish'. Tom is not a good forward although his kicking can be sublime. He does not get the ball. He needs to go back to CHB and run his opponent legless. OMac has to go - please, please, please, please - he is always a 'man missing'.  Nev is down and out, Hibberd is too casual with disposal, Lever is a imposter who could do a good deal more. Clarrie just has to learn to deliver the ball more accurately, more controlled and certainly, to a leading forward, lace-out. Disappointing...

The club really has a lot to answer for. What a terrible performance.

'To hell and back'... what a joke. What a pitiful performance. Once again we are all talk.

Lets talk about the game plan. Back in 2018 when we were actually winning games I posted on here that I hated our game plan. Fwd press no matter what. Bomb it into our forward line as quick as you can and try to lock it in. The quick transition out means that the opposition get the easiest of goals. It's terrible to watch. Simply terrible. My heart is in my mouth the whole game.

When I brought it up on here, a regular poster said that this isnt what our game plan is and nearly a direct quote... "Do you think Goody is telling them to bomb it to the opposition?" A few weeks later Goody confirms that our game plan is 'Chaos ball'.

I've given Goody time, because he keeps saying that we need to improve 'the connection with our forwards' but he isnt delivering on these words. I find his media talk quite confusing and hard to listen to. I assumed this was just his persona to the media, but maybe this is just his communication style and the players arent getting it.

3 years in and we continue to bomb it in. It's simply not good enough.

I cannot see how we had Paul Roos defensive first/limit fumbles game plan and then have transitioned into this rubbish.

We used to talk on here about 'Coach Killers' when a player would put in a terrible performance. Well... right now, Goody is a 'Player Killer'. No one enjoys being beaten like this. The players heads go down so quickly because they have to try and sprint back to stop the quick transition. They are physically and mentally spent by quarter time. They are clearly not enjoying playing the game.

I worry that we can ruin blokes like Kossy Picket.

I don't think I've seen a better display of delivery by foot into a backline. Just dumb.

Yes I see your point but all I saw were the same issues from last year, poor delivery options into our forward 50. Basic suburban level fumbling at crucial times, that led to turnovers. Inability to hold the ball in our forward line and the stop, delay transition out. And the usual, the inability to kick set shot goals, and that one kills you. We should have been 3.1 at quarter time if we could kick straight but we were 0.4. Game was lost then.

They played like they wanted to fly out before the borders close

i imagine it was a difficult circumstance to play in, but that doesn't exclude the lack of effort and basic skill execution, not to mention the complete lack of cohesive game plan and structure

if the season ever resumes, it will be interesting to see how we come back - after a seemingly positive pre-season, that was a massive let-down

we did play the team that is likely to be right in premiership contention on their home deck in warm and extrezzo unusual conditions

but my goodness...we ain't good

Yes, there were some old habits that were plain to see. But maybe that's what happens when you're not switched on , you revert to the old ways instead of embracing what you've learnt over the summer.

I watched very little, unable to bear repeat offence. Impressions? Gawn wasn't  fit. Hibberd needs a good f..king talking to. Spargo is a liability. There were good reasons for Essendon allowing Brown to walk. I would hate to be a forward at the end of the bullsh..te delivery they received today. The rest is history repeating itself. Then again, we are making history and we shall see what we shall see.

Our answer is Yze Goodwin can't coach. Viney our best by a mile, second best May shut down Kennedy, 1 to Oscar for his job on Darling even though I don't want him in the side Tom is a better CHB. Kossie and Bedford showed promise. Langdon is possibly the worst kicker of the ball I have ever seen and we have some shocking kickers.

I got so frustrated I ripped my vintage Demons t-shirt I was wearing in half as I was watching the game. Ok it was an old T-shirt -because I'm really not that strong... but you get the drift.  An incredibly disappointing display.

I think we have to persist with the core unit such as Lever, but he really needs to be schooled as to staying inside his driving lane when he kicks and doesn't try to be too inventive.  Hopefully Rivers comes on quickly to replace Hibberd who is a woeful kick.

Meaningless game.  In fact, we may not see a more meaningless game ever played ever again in any sport.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
