Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Will the real Angus Brayshaw please stand up?

Name the name

Brayshaw has battled his way back from concussion issues, maybe the 'coach' didn't see him in tears when he got knocked out at VFL level in a comeback game

To even be playing still at AFL level is a testament to the fact he wants to be an AFL footballer, could have walked away and no body would have blamed

Your opinion, thought the comment was awful and 'a coach', who?

Who really had a good year in 2019? . Very few boys. However Gus is better than that and it takes a collective of our very good players  to turn it around not just a handful. ALL IN.!  Gus has plenty to offer yet his 2019 year wasn't as good as 2018 it was still fair and held his own playing mainly  on the wing.

574 poss in 2018 and 90 less in 2019 he has plenty to offer at just 24 years of age. I am more than happy that he is playing for our club.

Don’t believe me, big guy? Ask the other 20 or so Demonlanders who were at the same get together as me who heard it. Ex coach was there as recently as last year so work it out.

And it was?

So it was McCartney, he had an opinion on everything, doesn't necessarily mean that opinion was right

Talked a few times to him, didn't agree with everything he said, seemed to have a bit of underlying bitterness about the whole industry

Note ex coach for going forward

Had a few decent games, but has been poor for a few weeks now. He's a mile off the accumulating goal kicker he was in 2018. Hopefully the coaches work out how to get him playing a role he excels at, and hopefully he finds form soon. Too much talent to be wasted!

Left or right peg, the man just cant kick the pill at the minute Trav... been very clumsy In & around the contest too.

Will still do the odd good thing here & there but yeah, don’t know with Gus at the moment.

Reckon it's a mixture of confidence and being played out of position, but he simply has to add more versatility to his game. Oliver and Petracca are too good not to be starting mids now and if Viney finds his mojo, Gus is going to have reduced minutes in there.

He's not really being played out of position is he?

Only viney and Oliver would have had more time on ball today, surely.

I don't see why there's lots of people on here, plus other fan sites, who like to jump on a player because they has 1 or 2 down games. Gus was very good at the start of the year, nearly our best against the Cats. However, when you run a midfield that has Oliver, Trac, Viney, Harmes, Brayshaw, plus what Max has been doing around the ground, there will be weeks where one or 2 will be quiet while the others feast. Viney was the target the week before last, Harmes and Oliver have been mentioned.

If you have a look at all the great midfields/teams of recent times such as the Eagles - Judd, Cousins and Kerr were supported by Fletcher, Embley etc. The Cats had Selwood, Bartel, Ablett, supported by Kelly, Ling etc. The outlier might be the Hawks, not that Mitchell, Lewis, Sewell, Hodge etc weren't very good players, but their strengths came from their team game.

I'm a huge fan of Brayshaw, my favourite current Dees player, so my view is probably skewed in his favour before I start analysing.

He still runs both ways, still gets in and under when it is his turn, and still plays the gameplan and structure really well. Some have suggested he is lazy - I think you'll find he has a long running step length and it makes him look like he is jogging.

The only problem with his current game is clumsy, lousy, weak disposal. But it is becoming bad enough to ask questions about his place in the 22. If he turns it over in the midfield 4 times against the Lions, they will take every advantage.

However, I just can't see who to bring in for him. Brayshaw at 60% is still way better than Tomlinson. Rivers maybe, but he plays a vastly different role. Jones - possibly.

I'd be keeping him in at the moment, but the ice is getting thinner.

I think Viney has well and truly found his mojo over the last couple of weeks. May end up being a matter of trading one of Gus or Harmes at the end of the year.

He definitely started on the wing yesterday. I don't remember him starting many if any centre bounces.

I think Jack's decision making yesterday was probably the best it's been this year, but I thought he faded in the secobd half, but that was okay because Petracca and Oliver were dominating.

Footballers can have a run of outs like a cricketer.  You go from hitting the ball in the middle of the bat to playing and missing for no apparent reason.  Footballers get a run of the fumbles and no matter what they do, the ball just won't stick.

Gus is a confidence player and now that the team is starting to play better I think we will see Gus lift as well.  Having said that, to me he his body language tells me he just doesn't seem happy at the moment.  Maybe there are some off field issues that we don't know about?  We tend to forget that our heroes also suffer from the same human traits and frailties as us mere mortals.

Finishing ahead of Martin, Dangerfield, Cripps Grundy and Gawn in a Brownlow shows that Gus is a super talent.  If he can lift  his own confidence with that of the team we can yet again become a genuine contender.

It's more than "1 or 2 down games" though mate. He's barely fired a shot since 2018.

Also, a former pick 3 in the draft who finishes 3rd in the Brownlow should have higher expectations placed on them than to merely be a second tier midfielder. Reckon you're letting him off the hook in a big way there. Even if you're happy to accept him as that, a quality second tier midfielder should be providing better quality ball use than what Brayshaw is currently. 4 clangers out of 8 kicks.

Not letting him off the hook, just not jumping up and down because he has a few off weeks. Of course he's got things he can improve, and we all should expect more from him, but also not having a pot shot at him just because it seems that we need to have someone to have a go at each week.

We have too many inside bulls and sadly Gus is paying the price. he's effectively being played out of position and his weaknesses are on show for everyone.

he's exactly the type of bloke who goes to another club for more opportunities and dominates and everyone says, why did you let him go.

I think the best thing for Gus is to move on to another club, i like him and rate him but he's behind Petracca, Oliver and Viney, and probably neck in neck with Harmes for the position that suits him. and he's only bang average on a wing.

the other thing to consider is the reduced quarters in 2020 means less rotation of star players so the blokes mentioned above aren't needing to rotate quite as much so less sustained opportunity at the bounce for Gus as a result

Fair enough mate. From what I've seen no one is going too overboard (I may have missed those posts though tbf), they just know he's well below what he should be and has been for a long time.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
