Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

An old friend of mine and Cats tragic living overseas sent me a text message at quarter time that simply read " The Cats are still at Hoppers Crossing" with the early prediction that the Cats were gone and a diatribe on Scott and the Geelong  "Prima Donna's". Also respectful comment that the Demons were playing a fantastic game of team footy. Made my day.

Special day, indeed! The team played systemised footy, just like they did in Northey's finals appearances.

Here's the game that broke the 23 year drought of non finals appearances.  With 1 of our former coaches commentating on the game.

5 players kicked 17 goals between them for the MFC in the game ... can you guess which 5 without checking the details?

The game was fast,  furious and we played great football.

Just watched the 1991 ST.Kilda game, which I happened to be at. Jakovich *8 goals and a bloke called Paul Bryce doing a more than reasonable job on Tony Lockett, but I don't recall him.

Started watching the 2nd half.. it took 1 minute for Robbie Flower to bob up and kick a great goal.

118 point win in a final.  Suck on that North.

Northey had the team going very hard at the ball and the 2nd & 3rd efforts were great to see.  The run from the backline was another highlight.

We weren't the most skillful team but we played no nonsense footy at all times.

Warren Dean was terrific to watch though ... silky smooth.  Was it a knee injury that curtailed his career?

Yes, the recurring knee injury ended his career. When he joined the Eagles he was unable to get a senior game due to injury. Although he played in Subiaco's Grand Final win over Fremantle.   And apparently he tried out as a punter in the NFL four years before Darren Bennett starred for the San Diego Chargers in 1995 (according to The West Australian dated 3 Dec 2018 when Dean's son won a sporting scholarship at the University of Texas at San Antonio).

A good player, remember him well, pity he was a West Australian, lol.

Thanks for that info DG ... I knew Warren had some sort of injury as he was well on his way to becoming a very good long term player for us.

He could certainly roost a footy and moved well.  Good hands too.

The 1988 GF is largely forgettable for most Demon supporters but just 1 week earlier the excitement of winning the Preliminary Final and thus making the GF occupied our thoughts.

It's easy to forget the high's in footy sometimes but I'll never forget how good this preliminary final win over Carlton felt.  So take your mind back whilst watching this replay as if the GF was still to come.

Oh,  and watch out for the 'Pulsar Vector' advert.  That's right,  the replay comes replete with ads.

And if the link below doesn't work go here - 1988 Preliminary Final

The 1988 prelim win doesn't get the credit it deserves and I feel it slips through the cracks in terms of our club history. Beating the reigning premiers and kicking 19 goals on a wet day at Waverley is nothing to sneeze at.

All everyone talks about is the 1988 GF flogging that year, however to win 3 finals in the one finals series, like we did in 1988 is a damn good effort.

I also feel our 2000 prelim final win over North doesn't get celebrated enough. We scored 156 points that night with Farmer kicking 8 goals. That win was overshadowed by the 2000 GF and our exciting week 1 win over Carlton.

Yeah,  I had the 2000 prelim final in mind as well BBP but it's nice to have a bit of a gap and discuss or make mention of each game posted.  And of course anyone can post up a game.

I'm still to watch the last quarter of the (above) 1988 prelim but the game was very willing in the 3rd quarter.  It looked like we came out aggressively with intent and then took advantage as the Blues tried to square up.  That was an old Collingwood trick going way back.

And it's always great when we beat Carlton.

These games bring a huge smile to my face in these uncertain times both health wise and the way we are playing at moment. Geez we had some players with skills back then. Brett Lovett we could do with right now. Hardly wastes a disposal either by foot or hand

Thanks for posting the '87 game, Macca.  What an effort by the Demons over North. Their pressure, pace, skills were all fantastic. The 2020 team should be made to watch that game. Hard to see any of our current line-up fitting into the '87 team that played that day. Sad but true.

Just watched it.. flat out goosebumps. 2018 was wild. Friday night Finals in front of 90K plus fans and majority of were Demon fans. So good.

The peak of my Melbourne supporting experience were those two Friday nights.

Just a week later we were brought back to hell and haven't looked like getting close to getting back out since.

I love this club.

Interesting to see (and remember) a young David Williams amongst the class of that Demons team. He subsequently became one of our more famous and consistent ball magnets - racking up possession after possession through several home & away seasons to follow. His running game was next to perfect on the MCG - a real space and pace hunter with excellent delivery skills and vision.

1989 Elimination Final ... and a victory over the Pies.  After our meteoric rise in '87 & '88 John Northey continued to coach the team into the finals.  We were 4 - 6 top players from being a real premiership threat but the players of the day gave their all.

Watching Hotter Than Hell right now and something than I've found interesting is the way the boys sang the song post match, a lot slower and clearer! I don't know whether it was a product of 2018 being the first time the team was belting out the song on a (semi) regular basis but they sure sang it a lot faster. ?‍♂️

I've been rewatching all the replays I have from season 1988. Just finished the home and away season last night, our two wins over the Pies in home and away were great particularly the one at the G late in the season, we steamrolled them. We then got belted by the Hawks at Waverley and lost another 4 in a row after that (to the Eagles in Perth, Richmond!, Footscray at the G and the Bombers at Windy Hill) before cementing a finals spot in the last round beating Carlton in a game that went down to the last 10 minutes or so. We're top 2 or 3 for a lot of the season and threw it away with that run of losses. We also got belted by the Swans at the G in round 15 a week after beating Geelong in Geelong. 2 or 3 losses there that should've been wins and cost us a double chance during the finals.

Now to get on and watch the 3 finals wins - do I dare watch the Grand Final? I've only seen it once since watching live as a 6 year old and I reckon I didn't even watch the 2nd half that day. I think I'll have to for completeness sake but it will be a bitter watch.

Watching the Geelong elimination final right now, jeez we looked good in that first quarter. Tom McDonald clunking almost everything that comes his way.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
