I remember reading an article on how the Hawks were financing Dingley and there was not much debt as I recall it. Could it send some clubs to the wall? Who knows but if you look at the MFC and remove the gate takings from Anzac Eve and possibly QB it will take a long time to recover on top of the losses of 2019.

Bigger clubs like Collingwood will take it in their stride.

If it is followed with a drop in the TV revenue it could be the perfect storm.

Perhaps we will see the end of GCS?

Then as driving off, they started coming out of the reptile centre, in casual clothes so not clear they were team, let out a huge go demons, got some odd looks, a carn the baggers Back, so let rip even louder. Kids called me an embarrassment!

 

Went to tennis club, organised to park the car there and will sit on roof top tent to want help the game, will do our best to fly the colours!

What I think is being wildly understated however is the crowd influence on the players, whether it's boos or cheering. Levels of alertness and adrenaline for elite performers simply require that noise. We all know that rush in ourselves when the crowd roars, and even as just a spectator I'm expecting to be bored witless watching the game for three hours with no cheering.

So my conclusion was based on both teams being rather flat - contesting in a glorified training run. They are presently the better team, don't have to travel across a continent, and I presume get to train at that ground or at least know it far better than us. I believe these are the deciding factors with the hype of the crowd taken out of the equation - the hype which I think is especially important for us.   

So in my opinion the lack of crowd favours them, even when factoring for the ordinary crowd/umpiring advantage. I wouldn't back us to travel over there and win a pre-season game (see 2017?), and this is exactly what it will feel like if not worse. Also of further note: many believe the West Coast bias stems from the umpires being mates with the players as much as the crowd influence.

Yeap and a Melb club as well I’d expect. A Saints or Norf potentially. It would amaze me, but not, if the AFL kept supporting a GWS or Suns and let a Vic club keel over, but thoughts for the future.  Now it just how the hell do I get toilet paper.

See on the AFL site that some clubs are thinking of cutting their VFL players loose for the season due to CV.

Would be very disappointing if that happens and it could hasten the end of what is already a highly compromised competition.

At this rate the season will be cancelled, so no positive from rating, the virus will hit it's peek in April, and all the nanny's will be protecting the little children everyone, the whole world is a nanny state, people will die, so what happens everyday, and the world is overcrowded, nurture is trying to restore the balance. Bring it on too many old people are in the world.

Just ask the government that complain all the time about the ageing population.

Kayo services are presumably hosted in cloud infrastructure, which can be scaled by deploying addition resources (servers) on-demand with ease. I Wouldn’t worry about kayo missing a beat.

Sorry, the problem is too many young people. Us oldies will die pretty soon one way or the other.  Young people keep having babies.  The world's population isn't rising because of old people.

So what was written in that article was that they’re expecting the first 4 rounds to be played with no fans. We can afford that to go to round 5 as we have two home games and they’re both low drawing but round 6 is the big one, for the ANZAC day eve game if that’s a lock out, that will be an absolute killer for us. 

I still don’t know what to think about the lock out, it feels like a hysterical response to it all. Could they have looked at alternatives such as segmenting large crowds? 

 What a crappy way to start the decade.

AFL players can go between club and family with little to no contact with anyone else in between.

VFL players have day jobs mingling with the community.

But if there's enough community spread to endanger the average VFL player in regular day to day jobs and life then by that stage I can't see how the AFL players won't be impacted. 

The AFL are trying to thread the needle here and there's so little margin for error.

Do they expect family members to self quarenteen as well?  I see that has close to the same potential for spread as comming into contact with other VFL players on game day.

I fully expect most white collar personel will be told to work from home soon and schools also to be closed, so if that keeps the spread in the general community low, perhaps the risk of transmission between players will be acceptably low and sporting teams granted an exempt status from the general quarenteen efforts to keep up community morale?

If mixing with VFL affiliates is off the table, then how do the AFL clubs expect players outside of their best 22 to stay match fit and select based on form?  A micro comp with just AFL listed players mixing from diferent teams perhaps?

Not necessarily, Geelong’s home games are always a sell out and of course they get all gate receipts. They would’ve budgeted for that, whereas I would picture we have budgeted a lot more modestly for our home games, particularly against the likes of free and GWS. I wonder how much renting the ground will cost with no fans? Perhaps that will be something the AFL subsidises?
