Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

A fairly big issue going into round 1 is who our backup ruckman will be. I was surprised to see the hit-out stats after todays game, it seemed like Ceglar would dominate Jackson, then Jackson would dominate the Hawks backup. Admittedly, I have never been a Weideman fan but was very disappointed with his game, apart from one nice mark.

Stats vs Hawthorn:

Weideman: 4 kick, 4 handballs, 3 marks, 1 tackle and 2 hit-outs from 65% TOG

Jackson: 1 kick, 4 handballs, 1 mark, 4 tackles and 12 hit-outs from 49% TOG

Who are you taking?

No brainer. Weids is miles in front of Jackson at this stage. Jackson played a half, and at that the 2nd half when opposition were tiring however every time got pushed off the ball. Needs plenty of time at Casey. In a year or two Jacko will be miles in front of Weids . He is just not ready at moment.

Too bad Petty is injured. He would be ahead of both.

I would go with Luke Jackson if the choice is between he and Weid.  At least he can play as a true ruck and keep teams guessing with his crazy athleticism.

I have no idea what Weid brings to the team at this stage

Neither just have McDonald back up ruck he's doing nothing up forward. Weid drops too many marks and Jackson is too raw.

Agree.  To some point.  I think Weids will come good, he clunked a few good ones tonight.  But I agree with T Mac as backup and playing Brown as the second tall forward as I think he is actually the other in form and has a good record of being pretty handy for a few goals a game.

Really not sure if we go with 2 or 3 talls.

Tom McDonald has to be in the side but he's looked very rusty. Does putting him the ruck help his game?

I'm far from a Brown fan but he does at least lead up and draw the ball towards him. Doubt he can or will want to do anything in the ruck.

Weideman doesn't get his hand on many hit outs but he can be useful at ground level and around the ground he's at least getting hands to the marks which means he's not being out marked!

The biggest worry I have with Jackson is he doesn't look at all comfortable in around the ground marking contests. Sometimes he'll end up in the right spot and then will have a nice jump at it but far too often he's either way under the ball or unable to get to it - either caught behind or off to the side.

We've been so spoilt having Gawn dominate the air but really competing in the air and not getting destroyed when you're at the long down the line contests is almost a rucks most important job these days. You can lose all the hit outs but still be of value at stoppages, but you can't let teams take advantage of you when you're under the long kicks.

Jackson should not play this year unless we get injuries. He's a kid. A tall talented kid, but I mean c'mon it's like putting a baby giraffe into a battlefield. Yeah the giraffe might stomp someone but it's not the place he belongs.

I wasn't all that impressed last week to be honest and thought we would have been better off playing Brown against the Hawks as more of a dress rehearsal for a fortnights time in Perth.  Was also a bit concerned with T Mac's lack of impact against the Hawks and so really think we need a big man with form on their side to play the Eagles.

It was the first time I’ve seen Jackson and tbh I was a bit shocked at how far off the pace he looked. He’s got a full year at Casey coming up with perhaps a game or two late in the season. He’s out of my 2020 plans but firmly in my 2021 thoughts.

Can't believe the posters who think Jackson looked ordinary... Take a closer look! He got pushed around in the first two or three ruck contests, but then adjusted. As the second half progressed he began to get his hands to the ball first and we started to take it away from the contests. His follow up work is elite and he wasn't afraid to tackle with vigour. If you think he will be playing at Casey for most of the year, you don't recognise 'star' quality when its right in front of you!

No way should we rush Jackson.
Weid has to be pushed along and needs the game time to develop at this level.
I feel bad for him as rucking is clearly not a natural skill, but he’s learning out of necessity.

Jackson should play VFL and have fun learning and getting physically stronger. A game towards the end of the year as a taster and a reward for effort would suffice.

Agree entirely wayne.  I am really impressed with this kid - he's clearly got football smarts.

I believe we should play both of them.

Having Jackson in the side allows the Weid to concentrate on the role we signed him up for - a KPF. Personally i don't want to see Weideman as a back up ruck, and the longer we use him in that role, the longer it will take for him to develop his KPF skills. Just look at what we did to Fritsch last year playing him down back, when he is a natural forward. Necessity last year? maybe, but with Jackson available, we don't need to do that to the Weid.

Jackson is so raw, but even so, I think this kid is special. Agree with Wayne and BBO that the kid was learning and adapting and eventually winning last night. It was like watching your kid successfully learn to ride a bike for the first time - it was great to watch. Happy to allow this kid to develop his skills among the big boys.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
