Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If the AFL went to a 17 game season, eliminate the mid and end season byes games would start on May 9.  Even later if they have mid week games.

At worst play to empty stadiums.

It would be a terrible, depressing winter with no footy?

Canceling the first round won't help as we are still in the early stages of the spread.

Um, canceling the first round will definitely help, for precisely the reason you say it won’t help!!

All it takes is one or two people in the crowd (and there would likely be more than that) to be infectious, and they could unknowingly spread the virus to numerous people around them in queues waiting to enter the ground, in the crowd in the stands, in queues for food and drinks, by leaving virus (thanks LdC) on counters where others could pick it up, etc etc.

Virus. But agree with everything else.

Yes lets cancel the first two rounds so we can split the points against WCE & GWS. I think beginning the season round 3 against the dockers at the G sounds fantastic.

In all seriousness everyone's health should be the number one concern and if that means we miss games or cannot attend then so be it.

games will inevitably get suspended/cancelled. it's only a matter of time before players start to become infected and isolated.

the only way to predict and plan the season again, would be if they infected all the players and staff now, then pick up the season once again when everyone has fully recovered. but they aren't going to do that.

this could realistically linger on for months with players all getting infected on different timelines. I feel the season will effectively be ruined before we see the end of it.

months? try 18 of em...that's how long current estimates are for them to have a flu jab for it to be good to go to mass market

yeah I know, I was talking more in relation to the viruses peak in Australia and how it will effect the footy season, rather than a timeline of curing the world of it.

Sadly true. But it is coming at us like an out of control freight train.

There is no way that players and staff can be effectively isolated from the community and the virus.

The season will be postponed or cancelled.

This is going to escalate to such an extent that the AFL/Govt, will be left with no choice. The players themselves may well act themselves. They need to consider their own position first and foremost and not leave it to others to decide for them.

Elephant in the room is how clubs that scrape by financially now are going to go with a massive revenue stream yanked out from under them? Gate receipts gone, corporate hospitality out, membership sales dry up to zero/people stop paying their monthly installments. Can't even get together to rattle the tin!

In the worst case scenario of the whole season being bounced I hope the AFL has funds in reserve or there could be a few clubs in massive trouble by the time it's right to play again.

Why are people being so hard on the GRand Prix organizers?  This is a fluid situation thats changing by the minute and hour.  It must be chaos right now trying to sort out events on that scale especially so close to the start.

Their hands are tied, same with everyone elses.

What a stupid, ignorant, racist thing to say. So Spain 'ruined' the world when the Spanish Flu broke out? Get a grip.

Covid-19 is just another of several zoonotic origin viruses that have spread within and from China specifically because of the hideous lack of basic hygiene, animal handling, animal welfare and workplace safety standards.

They are far from alone in these issues but as a country with the logistical resources to incarcerate millions of people for being a 'suspect' ethnicity and to monitor the exact location, occupation and connections of any given person, the continued total failure to enforce standards in this trade is a choice made by the Chinese government.

Similarly, the culture of Chinese officaldom in choosing to arrest and threaten the doctors who initially reported on and advised action on the outbreak was a key factor in the scale of the outbreak and is also a persistent characteristic of Chinese authority.

There's no value in getting into blame but there is also no question that the particular features of Chinese government and the accepted norms of a neglected and exploited filthy underclass were major factors, as was the deep culture of utter disdain for animal welfare.

Also, the reason Spanish Influenza is referred to as such is largely because Spain was one of the few countries which did not massively cover-up the scale of infection, so there were regular news reports of it's spread there while in UK, France, Germany, etc there was dramatic under-reporting and minimal coverage.  Spain was not the origin point, did not have unusually high cases, and there was no feature of Spain which made it a greater vector of virus spread than anywhere else.  So there is entirely zero similarity between the two.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
