Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The problem with this is they can't see what's happening off the ball or down the field and can only commentate on what they see on the screen.

For example they won't be able to analyse our forward entries properly because they'll only get half the picture. They'll see the bombing in but they might not be able to tell us what options were available. Not in real time anyway.

Maybe they'll have more than 1 TV in the studio. If not, they can hire me for this and other genius broadcast future ideas

Confirmation:  Grand Prix to be Cancelled

Interestingly, it is the teams who want to pull the pin - good on them.  Shows leadership the organisers and governments didn't have.

This diagram shows what governments are trying to manage: delay the CV peak to not stress medical resources.

Lets hope they can pull it off.

I suspect a lot of planning is based on the timetable shown in the diagram:  Estimating when the peak will hit and develop contingencies for when to run events.

Re the AFL season, someone suggested earlier that the season be reduced to 17 games where each team plays each other once; a great idea.  The fixture would need a little rejigging and maybe more mid-week games but that would be far preferable to no season or a totally compromised season.

It's a graph that makes plenty of sense. Would be interesting though to see an economic line included somehow, there are also heavy consequences to the balance (as you mentioned in an earlier post)

But I can't understand why a sport that's more made for televised watching than any other (F1) wouldn't run without crowds?

The miss information surrounding the Grand Prix is amazing. Media is reporting it's off, but ground staff are being told to work as usual. This has been a huge cluster [censored] by management, who have known for hours about the media reports, and yet still haven't released an official statement.

There was an NRL game on tonight,   complete with crowd.

And my boys got the 2 points. Crowd (21363) was down on what was expected.

Is it possible that the F1 component is cancelled, but the rest of the event, such as the V8s, is continuing?

Even so, release an official announcement that's the F1 component is off. I'm now hearing that they've delayed access to the park for fans who were supposed to enter at 8.45. Reports of racers on flights, it's become a full blown crisis because of a lack of leadership.

I guarantee most fans wouldn't go if they knew F1 wasn't going to be there.

So an infected person went to the MCG Sunday for the cricket grand final, there seems to be updates every 10 minutes on this so with footy still a week away I will be very surprised if crowds are allowed to go

while a risk it has  been assessed as a minor risk to the people that were in Sect 42 level2 on Sunday. Providing they follow the washing hands and medical procedure if any symptoms.

Was on the same level But in the Long  Room For most of the game.

(That  wind was so cold On Sunday the Virus would have done well to survive !!!!)That is not a medical diagnosis but an off handed comment on Melbourne's weather in early March.

Cricket following suit. There is no way fans will be going to the AFL next week.

Hopefully  if there are no feral yelling screaming WCE fans at next week's game, the umpires may be just a little less intimidated and we may get half a fair go for a change.

Maybe that is wishful thinking as no doubt some of the ferals will be lurking outside the ground boozing up all afternoon waiting for the umpires to (try to) leave.

Anyone else get this email today?  Titled Own your Bay at the MCG. Basically, sign a fellow demon to reserved seating and you will receive a complimentary 3 guest pass bundle.

A bit curious as to why they would send this amidst all the uncertainty.

Well, based on the social distancing counter measures against the spread of COVID 19, perhaps they may permit some fans to attend on the basis of having 3 fans per bay totall!

All but certain the AFL will follow suit.

Agree there is no way patrons will be allowed inside stadiums for Round 1.

Very high probability that the season will be postponed for an unspecified period of time.

After what Andrews said, I see no way it will happen, at least not in Victoria and NSW.

But in my opinion, it would be stupid for SA or WA to allow fans to enter as who's to say a Victorian carrying the virus decides to head over for the match.

Hoping for season to proceed but with empty stadiums. If they postpone, season could be a writeoff - no certainty on how protracted this will be. Though if/when players stsrt testing positive that'd surely be curtains.

As soon as this happens (or players having to quarantine because of contact with people who have it) and inevitably it will that will be the end of season 2020.

The government is aiming for a 'V'-shaped economic impact ie a sharp, short downturn followed by an equally sharp, short upturn ie the inverse of either coronavirus curves in the graph.   In terms of timing of the economic impact I suggest it lags the two curves by a month or two.  imv the government hopes we repeat the China experience and life is back to normal in 2-4 months.

The government, rightly, seems very worried the economic impact will 'U'-shaped ie a long, slow and prolonged downturn which could last years rather than months.  This will be far more severe than 'V'-shape as supply chains are being compromised and if producers can't get materials to finish products.  The longer supply chains are compromised the long it will take for the economy to get going again especially if people stop spending.  The economic package is to keep people spending.

On the bright side, I think the government has a very good chance of delaying the peak virus impact and its dangers peter out quite quickly.  There is anecdotal evidence the government is stockpiling critical items eg masks, sanitizers, medications etc initially for health practitioners and later for the public if it ever becomes necessary.

sport around the world is being suspended. Premier League having a meeting after Arsenal Coach confirmed positive.

F1 cancelled, cricket behind closed doors. Based on this it doesn't look too good for attending the footy anytime soon.

Serves me right for being quietly optimistic for this season.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
