Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Agreed.

However, whilst Morrison and others fiddle and down play the virus, the situation gets worse daily.

No travel, close borders, ban events etc must come quickly otherwise we are going to have a national health disaster.

As we are ill-prepared in regard to public policy and preventative care items such as masks and equipment we are not in good shape to withstand a possible tidal wave of cases.  Go to any GP clinic and you will see the mess we are in. Our service providers are ill-equipped to face infection patients and put their own health and lives at risk.

Sadly, the public gets mixed messages from the Government and health authorities. Its a pandemic etc etc but according to Morrison we should go about our business and not get unduly alarmed.

Posturing and responses on COVID 19 appear similar to responses on climate change and bush fires.

Hold tight and pray. WE are in for a rocky ride.

It is called not trying to create a panic, there are enuff idiots doing that already.

Here is a scenario I see occurring as the reason crowds will be banned before round 1:

Ball is kicked out of bounds into the stands, a fan with the virus picks it up and chucks it back onto the field, the player picks up the ball and recommences play. The ball is now infected with the virus and is being passed from player to player. Potentially, two entire teams could be infected from one ball going out of bounds.

Another reason not to touch the nurry so much this year.

Does anyone really want our boys flying to and from Perth on a virus laden tin can?

I can’t see how round 1 can go ahead unless the afl guarantees chartered flights; even then you’d want the pilots and staff screened

Stay home and split the points with the eagles, I would take that

Postponement or suspension of games now looks a certainty imo.

Banning attendance by fans also looks a certainty.

The normal is not possible in the current situation.

Even Forrest Gump is sick and is being affected.

The government needs to act know to slow its spread.  Earlier the better otherwise we'll end up like Italy and not Hong Kong.  Canceling the first round won't help as we are still in the early stages of the spread.

They either need to cancel whole rounds or none.  You can split points but if your playing a bottom side and look to take the points your at a disadvantage straight away over the whole seas..  First in points and second in potential percentage boost.  That may help us but cost us at other times.

We'll I have tickets for round 1 so we'll see what happens.

It was only a matter of time before someone publicly floated the idea of setting an age limit for access to critical medical facilities eg ICU.

Some reports I've read from Italian medical staff have been harrowing, to say the least.

To all those that downplay the number of people infected: this figure from WHO pretty much sums it up. Extrapolate this forwards a few weeks and see what you end up with.

Yes - getting the virus will not be a big deal for most people. Yes - much of the panic is needless, ill-informed and counterproductive. But an outbreak like this is unprecedented in modern human history - that's why health professionals are sh*tting themselves. Interesting times ahead.

On another front you can just bet that Pharmas around the world are all putting in Huge hours trying to be the first to come up with a "Cure all"tablet/anti vaccine!!

Will make a MOTZA

Just got advised by a doctor to stay away from crowds and at least a meter away from people. This virus is a heavy virus and only travels through the air about a meter (unlike the flu which can travel through the air about 4 meters), but it survives on surfaces for 2 days. This is why those people on the cruise ship still got the virus even though they were in isolation. They were being served food on infected trays. The best way to avoid it is to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water and not touch your face before doing so. Because it is a virus anti bacterial wipes and hand sanitisers are not as good. You need to wash it away with good old fashioned soap and water. And always use fresh towels and never use blow dryers in the toilets. They spread all sorts of germs, right into your face.

From what the doctor was telling me I don't hold out much hope for us seeing any football this year at all.?

Anyone else get this email today?  Titled Own your Bay at the MCG. Basically, sign a fellow demon to reserved seating and you will receive a complimentary 3 guest pass bundle.

A bit curious as to why they would send this amidst all the uncertainty.

If this is true - then this article from Vanuatu may be a good read. It's the boredom that makes it hard.

Confirmation:  Grand Prix to be Cancelled

Interestingly, it is the teams who want to pull the pin - good on them.  Shows leadership the organisers and governments didn't have.

This diagram shows what governments are trying to manage: delay the CV peak to not stress medical resources.

Image

Source: The Age

Lets hope they can pull it off.

I suspect a lot of planning is based on the timetable shown in the diagram:  Estimating when the peak will hit and develop contingencies for when to run events.

Re the AFL season, someone suggested earlier that the season be reduced to 17 games where each team plays each other once; a great idea.  The fixture would need a little rejigging and maybe more mid-week games but that would be far preferable to no season or a totally compromised season.

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you his observations from this morning's Captain's Run including some hints at the changes for our ANZAC Eve clash against the Tigers. Sunny, though a touch windy, this morning, 23 of them no emergencies.  Forwards out first. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
