Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

And I suppose you great grandfather blamed Spain for the Spanish flu and expected Spainiards to live in poverty forever.

(Actually the Spainsh flu is a  slander on Spain since news of it was supressed in the UK USA and Germany because of wartime censorship in WWI - didn't want to affect morale in that pointless war.  Spain wasn't involved and freely published info about it so they got stuck with the name.)

it's what you get for fighting bulls.

I'm sure they'd just do what they are doing in Italy and play in empty stadiums.  It would definitely be interesting times if it got to that though.  Schools shut.  All those who can will be required to work from home.   Nothing like I've ever experienced.

I'm experiencing it right now in Hong Kong.

Been working from home since the start of Feb and wont be back until at least the 20th of April.

Quite surreal.

Storm in a teacup.

Exactly the attitude that has seen the virus “explode” in places like S Korea, Japan, Italy and Iran; and probably why it took hold on such a large scale in China where a late response amounted to too little too late.

Buy shares in this mob guys, Zoono. (ZNO ASX). Expected to announce soon that their products which are being tested in Germany, have been found to be effective against this strain of the Corona virus.

I think all interstate games should be cancelled. No travel risk. Play 22 games in Victoria. Happy days.

Agreed.

If interstate clubs kick up a stink, let’s settle the matches by a coin toss.  50/50 for an interstate match are very good odds!

Update from an overseas correspondent:
Things are starting to get tenser here in Japan.
The event I am organizing which was mentioned in the 'To Hell and Back Pt 3.' thread had to be postponed due to the fact that numbers would be down and no-one knows how far this thing will spread. Certain people decry diversity in decision making but I nearly fell over when the Japanese government, basically made up of a council of well connected, out of touch, and elderly Japanese men, let all those people off the Diamond Princess without really performing comprehensive checkups. Alas, age and length of tenure in any unrelated position here is associated with 'wisdom' and competence, hence people without the specialized skills have been put in charge. (Point in case: the Olympic/Technology Minister admitted to not even having used a computer in his life until recently, yet was given this posting). With this in mind, and remembering the cockup at Fukushima, we are just hoping for serendipity.
Pretty much all social events where crowds are expected to gather have been cancelled or postponed. School will be closed for the month. Two of those weeks overlap with school holidays, BUT Japanese schools have a long tradition of running club activities which 80% of the student body turn up to. My job has also put out guidelines for COVID-19 which include prohibiting visits from researchers from Hubei.
While concrete measures were never really implemented until today,  Nagoya, where I live close to, has seen a huge drop off in people gathering in the entertainment and shopping districts. It's not quite like that scene from '28 Days Later' where Cillian Murphy wakes up from his coma, but you can get seats in coffee shops and restaurants way easier.
I have kept an open mind on much of this. The virus itself has killed mostly the elderly and infirm and while the death of anyone is tragic, it also means that contracting the virus isn't a death sentence as might be assumed. The big issue here is to contain this until the weather warms up and there is not such a strain on the hospital system (as is the case during Winter and early Spring). Hopefully, Australia can keep it under control and the monumental incompetence on display during the bushfires has been learned from.
@TeamPlayedFine39 what's the situation in HK?

I can't for the life of me understand why the government hasn't gotten onto this Zoono product. My wife (GP) has used their local rep (Brisbane) to not only provide hand sanitiser but to also fog the clinic monthly with their product. She swears by it.

Following on from my earlier post, the company has announced this https://www.asx.com.au/asxpdf/20200228/pdf/44fkyyv38g7651.pdf

All major sports/league have been given the heads up from Canberra that should any outbreak occur in Australia they'll be told to postpone the season or at best play in empty stadiums.

We joke but this is a major issue now and as they are winter sports a flu season the only winner might be Kayo!

Do we get a membership refund if we can't get access to games?

The LNP (?) are absolutely useless when it comes to emergencies. After the Kobe earthquake, they were so slow to respond that the local Yakuza were organizing assistance and temporary shelter for the affected. Same after the tsunami, the NGOs were at the forefront of assistance. They’re basically a bunch of entitled do nothings; I suppose parallels could be drawn with the fires response here, but let’s not digress ?

Wonder if the Saints will get their million plus ??

Saints CEO basically confirmed they won't get the money if the game is moved to Marvel. And rightly so.

There's talk the game might be moved to Cairns, in which case they'd probably receive a little something.

If it gets to that point I reckon membership refunds will be the least of our problems

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
