Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Replacing Frost

I liked frosty but you can’t carry players who don’t play to the game plan and who can’t use the footy coming out of the back half, Unfortunately for frosty he didn’t seem to understand his limitations with ball in hand.

Obviously May will take the stay at home forward and with Lever floating as an intercept player we may get away with having smith or Hore take the 2nd tall but otherwise Omac will be needed, Which I would be okay with and I think with strong support around him we would see him start to flourish a bit more in the back half.

Yes.  I guess we have to hope that we got the recruiting right or if we play finals regularly we might be able to attract a quality defender in the future.   In the meantime we'll have to endure a dysfunctional defence.

I believe there is a plateau in the top 8, that clubs get to,  after being down for a while.

A launching pad to fly to the Moon from,  or to blow up on the pad.

We've blown up, a few times before.   Because we didn't sit there and practice our drills and strategies.  In short,  we were there too short a time,  fleeting visits,  rather than getting used to the rarified atmosphere.

We are building a side/list to see us in finals for the next 10 years.  There's your basis for success.  The launching pad, Top 5.  Building the right Vessel, with the right skill sets.

I did like watching Frosty play,   but with my heart in my mouth at times,

I can admit that I was surprised when he was let go so relatively easily.

I think it is obvious that the Football Department  sees far more upside in Omac rather than Mr Frost.

I guess that's what they get paid to do

Hoping it is J Smith who intercepts and provides attacking run from down back this year.

Hore is only slightly under sized at 190cm.  He's also, dare I say it, smarter than Frost.

I don't mind a May / Lever / Hore set up for the tall defenders.

Thing to remember - our game plan relies on having smart mobile defenders who can read play, press up, support eachother and cover the right spaces.  NOT any kind of one to one minding of opposition forwards.  It is part of why we are/were so horribly exposed when the system breaks down and particularly when we aren't spreading well in the midfield to cover rebounds and keep pressure on.

I enjoyed or should I just say 'was entertained by' Frostball and respect the player himself, but he was not a cog in the particular machine we are trying to build.

I watched full game of the Hawks and Saints game and frost was horrible. Turnovers, and gave away dumb frees.

Always looks completely perplexed when a free is paid against him.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes Clark ro lose patience in frost ball given his focus on system and contolled ball use.

Petty 20 yo can play forward and held his own in the AFL 10 games in 2019 as a key started in the back line and ended as  a forward where he kicked 6 goals for the season. He might have kicked 3 or  in a game. Correct me if anyone wants to.

197cm  tall and has upside plenty of it. IMO he will be used wisely maybe has to wait his turn however don't be surprised if he plays regularly. He will only get better. He has the time to make a name for himself forward or Back. Glad he is on our side. His best stats against St Kilda  12kicks  11 handballs 23 poss  10 marks in 2019. playing back.

He kicked 3 goals against the Bulldogs. Good going. Watch this space.

Sounds like this is actually designed as yet another bag Oscar thread.
Getting boring.

It is boring monoccular ... the advanced scapegoat (Oscar) cops it by default.

Ingerson,  Hughes,  Campbell,  Shanahan would all cop it at various times.  Blame the last thing visible?

Meanwhile,  a dysfunctional forward line* is often the real cause of a team being broken down by the opposition (albeit recognised later on)  And the forward line only ever seems to get the blame as a group.  It's what we do.

*70's & early to mid 80's - Demons dysfunctional forward line (main issue)

Don't hold your breath Earl.  I am so surprised that anyone can see some thing in him. played 11 games since he debut in 2017.

I hope he does well for his sake and I hope he proves me wrong.  I cannot rate him. I am sorry

I liked Frosty (for mixed reasons) and i've previously joined the somewhat unnecessary pile-ons on Omac last year due to the sideshow 2019 was for us.  We have the players to replace Frosty based on the replies to this thread, with a fit bill of health they may even well surpass him based on team play/structure etc. Hopefully OMac has had a positive pre-season and is given a clean slate by the fans for this season.

In a perfect world the replacement for Frost is Hunt. Backmen such as Lever mark the ball give off to Hunt who breaks the zone by running 15-20 metres and delivers to players running onto the ball.

Fast and damaging transition. Pity Hunt seems to have lost his mojo

Not sure Hunt helps us with our backline disposal problems.

You mean, who's going to grab the ball, run flat out for 50m, kick at full tilt to no one in particular and then watch it sail over his head for a goal? Or whose going to chase down an opponent then kick it out on the full? Or whose going to break team zoning rules, only to be told off by senior players?

Tough call, but I'd rather a disciplined Oscar than Frosty.

A beautiful set of reminiscences Moonshadow. I reckon I saw all of these.

Good luck to Frost , and " Frostball", although coined last year was maybe said in just, just didn't fit the modern game and the team's objectives.

I think there is still hope for Oscar and his kicking is underrated.

Frost?  The over concussed defender who was bog average for the hawks last week?

Frost made mistakes in the first quarter but had a very good final 3 quarters last week IMO, and the Hawks supporters across the forums were more than satisfied with his performance.

A good pick up for the Hawks and potentially a bad loss for us if May continues his injury prone stint with us, we get the 2019 version of O Mac and Lever doesn't become the star we were expecting.

That's called wishful thinking 'Bring-Back'...

All supporters do it at this time of year.

You see what's not there and ignore what is.

You like to think you've picked up a bargain. How could Melbourne let him go?

Let's see what they think after a couple of real games.

Transition from defence is perhaps the most important part of the game, look at Richmond's back 6 last year:

B: Astbury Broad Grimes

HB Houli Vlastuin Short

None are really 'Key Defenders', but they all kick extremely well and are superb decision makers.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
