Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The ball was well gone and Crouch’s intent was to go the man. He propped himself to launch upwards so in reality he had better momentum than an in-flight Oliver. The evidence is there for all to see.

Should cop a week - no questions asked.

Has to get a week. Should get 2. Stupid decision.

May got a week in the corresponding practice game last year.  Many on here argued he shouldn't have even been reported, let alone cop a week. Crouch has to go

Sure it was a practice match but we sure ran it out well. (Burgess Effect)

Trac was amazing. Let’s hope this is his breakout. Heard Liam Pickering on radio last night. Said he spoke to Jordan Lewis last week. Lewis said Petracca finally has his act together.

Kozzy looks like he’ll be an excitement machine.

Viney well. Seems to be covering the ground well and disposed of the footy well.

Clarry was good however needs to stop looking for a close handball. When he kicks it he kicks it well. Just needs to do it more.

Brown will be handy. Worked well with Tmac who had his kicking radar on

We really missed a ruckman. Mids did well despite this.

Lever Intercepted well early on. We need May though as another exit kick option.

Pretty happy overall.

I liked Jackson’s intent at getting the ball. Just a small observation. When he was contesting centre bounces there were a couple of occasions when the ball went forward our way off hands and he took off chasing it really fast, even outran our mids to it after jumping.

On both occasions he didn’t win the ball as the Crows back flankers beat him to it. The slightly more experienced O’Brien ran the other way and ended up being on the end of it at half forward. No concern there, as I’m sure he will learn when to go for the ball and when to follow his direct opponent. I was mainly fascinated by his agility and instinct to compete.

The ball was well gone but at pace the contact was inevitable given Over tried to shepherd and Crouch wanted to go the man: blocking is legal and at full pace he only has a fraction of a second.

He absolutley propelled upwards, which was the reason the elbow came up too, so I have no problem with getting a week.

But I really don't think there is much in it. It's sloppy, and a bit worse than May's was, which I think was think was made worse by the fact that Berry didn't look where he was going.

I've been talking Petracca up to my mates and saying he my sneaky Supercoach player that no one else will pick.

Petracca : 188 supercoach points.

Practice match and all that.. but he was up against Brad Crouch for a lot of it.

Before the anti Spargo brigade get going I thought that while he suffered three glaring skill errors that I can recall he was in the right place at the right time.Correct those skill errors and the Spargo we used to know is back.

Langdon looks likely but his hairstyle makes him easy to spot.

I agree.  It was a good busy start for him.   Just misjudged the closing speed of some opposition, as he wayed up his options. Getting the ball to boot a little late.

Very good signs from these three, as well as the other improvements. Great signs of depth and competence for the coming season.

Unfortunately opposition fans and commentators either don't buy that line or forget to mention it when talking about the fall from grace.

From The Mongrel Punts' review of the game ...

Aaron vandenBerg looked like he was having fun out there today, crashing in to register eight tackles as he used his body as a battering ram to clear the path for teammates. Whilst less impactful, Alex Neal-Bullen started to find the footy as well. These two were sorely missed in 2019, and the Dees look a lot better with them in the team.

What's he talking about regarding Nibbler being "sorely missed" last year?

He's not wrong. Only about the sorely missed. Nibbler was hardly sighted last year.

I think you can just about kiss goodbye to that.

On a similar note, it's hard to believe that Slone got picked to represent the big V over either Trac or Oliver.  Blinkered selectors much?  I'm quite ok that Trac doesn't play in this game for now though.

I don't really want to start or add to an Oscar pile on, but was quite disappointed in not only his game, but Hibbo's as well.  Thought that Hibbo turned the ball over galore by foot and sold team mates into trouble by hand, in the first quarter in particular.  Oscar played with a real lack of confidence, intensity or both, typified by spilling an absolute sitter of a mark over the boundary line under little to no pressure in the last quarter when we had the game well under control.

I really do hope that both these players can find confidence, form and turn things around quickly and hopefully May and Hore back into the side will steady the side down back, because I think we looked pretty exposed down there, particularly against good opposition.

From time to time, Hibbo shows a little bit more resolve, more concentration, more desire to do stuff for the team. He will get back to this more consistent play, surely. He does feed out a good ball and can run with purpose to set something up. Whereas the other one, well, I was very surprised that he got into the team/onto the field. One spoil, one kick, six leaks or non-contested regionalisations do not make a guernsey in my opinion but I have said that type of thing many times before.  May, Hore and a utility backman will make a whole difference down there now that Nev and HIbbo are getting on in years. I'd also expect a rather quick rise from a couple of our new young'uns - the backline seems to be a potential breeding ground at the moment - certainly in times of need.

A lot to like from that game. When Weed was at CHF in the last he looked good very comfortable he will do well this year. Jones looked like he was enjoying himself. Please sign trac to a big deal this week. What impressed was we were even across the ground with few obvious shockers and more importantly we ran out the game the much fitter team. It became obvious in the last we would not be run down even as we went against the wind. The coaches have got the pre season right which bodes well for a decent year.

Spargo is a substandard AFL Player. Has limited skills and as you have alluded to "Glaring Skill Errors"

How he gets a game in front of Hunt is "Perplexing"

The issue i have with Spargo is he cant get a contested ball- which is fine not all players need to do that- so he is in the team to recieve a ball from someone who "gets the ball" and distribute it to a player who can do something with it- goal or move it forward when he is playing high OR kick a goal when he is playing forward (he kicked 2 goals in 8 matches last year) The problem is his disposal is often (at best 50/50) appaling and results in a turnover. A "link up player" like Spargo must have an efficency ratio more like 90/10. He is now in his 3rd year and will always be a fringe player who gets a game when all other options are injured. He may have worth a try but its now time to cut our losses and move him on next year. Kozzie has showm more in 10 minutes than Charlie has shown in 26 games, and we seem to have a few small forwards now.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
