Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

2020 Pass Mark

What's your pass mark for the Dees in 2020?

AFL 2020 predictions: Every club's pass mark for this season

Melbourne

Qualify for the finals

How do you bounce back after a season from hell?

Internally, Melbourne have probably set the bar higher than this, but the reality is, they won just five games last year with pretty much the same list.

They should be in much better nick come round one this year and will hopefully have learned some lessons from 2019.

Having been handed a favourable draw, this season will be the year where we learn if the 2018 preliminary final appearance was the outlier or the Dees are ready to finally challenge again.

Consistency,  they end result will take care of itself if we can narrow the gap between our best and worst football.  Putting a win loss target or what position we finish to hard for 2020, just play good strong consistent football and I will be happy.  No more quarters where we are just plain terrible.

We have a markedly better list than we had in 2018.

Last year was the outlier, you can't play above yourself but you can certainly play below.

A list of factors conspired to give us season 2019.

This is why I don't take into consideration this rubbish of only 5 wins, it's a big leap.

It's actually not if we take the 14 wins plus a couple of finals from 2018 and build from there.

We learn the lessons of 2019 and don't disregard them but we build on 2018.

Top 4 is the pass mark for this season.

Anything less is a fail...

Simply must play finals. Anything less in my opinion is a fail, and make no mistakes about it, it will be very hard to do so. There are 2 spots i reckon up for grabs.

OUT: Essendon / Geelong

IN: St Kilda / Port Adelaide / Melbourne / Sydney / Nth Melbourne

Add Hawthorn to the possible ins.

Can see them making top 6.

Unless we pull off a massive miracle, I think a premiership for at least this season is out of our reach.  That is always the ultimate goal but we're coming from a fair way back.  I think we have the potential within the list to push for a premiership but it won't be in 2020.

However, this isn't a rebuild like we started when Paul Roos came on board.  My expectation for this season will be finals.  I'd like to see us finish high enough to snag at least one home final and see how we go from there.

Having said that, we need our key players on the park far more often than we did last season.  It's hard to compete when so many of them had injuries or their pre-season was severely hampered and we couldn't run out games.  I never expected us to fall as far as we did, though.

So, a top six finish (5th of 6th) is something I think we can achieve.

Internally, Melbourne have probably set the bar higher than this, but the reality is, they won just five games last year with pretty much the same list. ( A quality journalist, instead of a hack, would have qualified that last statement by adding.."...Except that only 2 of 40 odd list players completed above 80% pre-season, and 17 surgeries impacted... " )

They should be in much better nick come round one this year and will hopefully have learned some lessons from 2019.

This is so lightweight its a disgrace in regards to analysis.

I think a golf score on a Par 3 hole is the best way I can rate this:

Bogey: 9th again - Goodwin probably keeps his job

Par: Finals - first or second round exit

Birdie: Finals - 2 wins and a Prelim appearance again

Eagle - Premiership.

If Goodwin delivers an 8-14 Season this year, he should walk.
We must expect higher than that. He had the arm chair ride into the job, this year he must show us what he has got, even in adverse circumstances.
no more “Be Patient Guys” he has to produce answers

When were we last in a situation where at 3/4 time we are 30 points down, but come storming home in the last to win by 10+ points.
Goodwin needs to add flare to his game, following the process is not always the way to go.

Agree with that. Not too many coaches get a 2 year apprenticeship with the promise of the full time gig.

He'll survive with 8 wins though. Too many years left on his contract and it would be an improvement on last year (sadly).

You may be right BBP, but he shouldn’t.
8-14 is really just more of the same, going round in circles.
8-14 tells me his idea of a game style is simply not good enough.
14-8 means his theories are on the right track with room for improvement.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
