Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Replays give you more close ups and different angles. His best shot over the last 2 years hasn’t been great. Many on here will call that harsh, but the top sides set a standard we have to get to

You have to know a bit about performing at a high level in in any particular sport to know what I mean.

The MFC and AFL communities are soft on jones because he is perceived to be "unlucky" to have ended up at melbourne. People forget he has been extremely well paid, probably overs, for many years. Captained a club without a lot of leadership. He was never asked and still doesn't work defensively and for years only worried about his own game. Don't get me wrong, i like jones a lot and wish him well this year but if we are going to be successful we need to lift the standards we demand and that includes jones. He performs he plays. He repeats 2019 he plays it out at casey.

Chunk is the Robbie Flower minus the sublime skill, of our era. He deserves everything that comes his way for his loyalty and commitment to the club. This bloke has seen the worst of the worst as far as an AFL football club can go yet has stuck fat. He deserves a medal. Not sure what medal...but it should be gold.

He may well be cooked...but I thank you Jonesy from the bottom of my heart.

I know enough about performing at a high level. It’s not easy, but many do it well.
The MFC hasn’t been able to consistently hold that level. That is the core problem.

Well said Beetle, If he plays his roll in the side he's there on merit, can't ask for much more than that.

Was it Jones' idea to give up the captaincy? The script makes it look that way. I wonder.

I too believe Nathan Jones should have retired.

BTW Plenty here playing the man not the ball for their opinions on this.

So by that logic jones along with all his teammates all those years arn't responsible for teams performance? They were all just unlucky?

Oh, but your the guy that knows about high performance.

If you have a look through other forums, groups, comments sections, you'll see that Nathan Jones is the most respected player Melbourne has, and has had for a long time.  Other supporters, from the outside looking in, have witnessed him being bashed around by their clubs for a decade and have a lot of respect for him.

His best years as a footballer were our worst years as a club, and I believe that he is looked down upon as a player and has unfairly and inaccurately been labelled as purely blue collar.  He was good through the Neeld years and excellent with Roos, when Cross, Vince and Tyson came into the team.  If he was drafted by the Cats or Hawks, he'd have 3 or 4 flags.

He has dropped off in his later years, as all players do, but that shouldn't change the player that he was.

Round 1 spot is his to lose at this stage.

id be surprised if he's not in the team r1, but I doubt he'll be in the side at the end of the year. the struggle will come for Jones when the grind sets in after a couple of months and he struggles with the pace again. just like Vince and Lewis who both went on 1 year too many. I think he should have probably bowed out last year.

I think Jone will have a resurgent year without the “weight” of the captaincy to bear.
Have faith.

Agreed. What is the decision if he finishes the season on 295 games?

Jones has performed to the best of his ability for the majority of his 15 years at the club, like all players at all clubs he has had his ups and downs during those years and like all players age will eventually catch up with him. You appear to be blaming him alone for the teams performances instead of poor coaches, poor recruiting, poor development, poor admin, poor boards for a number of his years at the club especially between 2008 and 2013.

Felt for him. Spent years leading us when we were awful. Got a taste of success only to have it all go to [censored] again.
Last year broke many of us. Imagine how much worse it would have been for the captain.

Pretty much nailed it, I think after what he'd been through Jones felt those dark days were behind him

If other clubs supporters had true respect for Jones they would be trashing and cursing him like we and others do to the likes of Selwood, Martin, Rance, Hodge, Franklin and other players who know how to win. They would never speak of Jones like that. Jones gets soft respect because he is ineffectual and benign and they are happy to have him keep on playing forever for us.

Not sure you understand respect if that’s how you express it...

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
