Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Nothing is guaranteed, but it puts you in a far better position for success.

And they continue to compete with short turn-arounds from list resets.

The facility debate is a ridiculous one. The better your facilities, the better your chances of success at the top level. The list of reasons is obvious.

Really don’t think it will ever happen to be honest.

Annoying that we voted for a new team in Tassie that is contingent on them having their own new undercover stadium with, no doubt, state of the art office and training facilities. Something to ponder whilst driving to wet and windy Casey.

No, it wasn't Gudnik or Gutnick. He was ousted as Club President in 2001 and up until then Olympic Park was in the hands of Athletics Victoria/Australia until Brumby, McGuire and Fildes did secret deals to obtain it for Collingwood in 2008.

Ignoring his business failings, Gutnick deserves a life membership for helping Melbourne survive during the wretched merger period and pumping millions of dollars of his own money (or someone else's!) into the Club.

One problem is that all the apartment development profit goes to Racing Victoria.

We'll need a first class community benefit story to get State/Federal money. Most of those have already been played by the other clubs but there may be one or two left

I'd love to see us incorporate something with the Reach Foundation - it wouldn't just be tokenistic either considering Jim Stynes' history. Have it called the Jim Stynes Centre for Underprivileged Youth or something like that (but with a better name).

I would like to wager Dan (or whoever's in power at the time) will miraculously still manage to find a bit of spare change for their favourite big Vic clubs at some point from here when asked though Mr Leg.

And they have plenty in the bank, since they have sold some of their pokies venues, and are in the process of selling more.

Unlike us, they have started fundraising with their members, and will have this facility operating by 2024!!.

With Hawthorn receiving $20m in federal, $15m in state and $5m in local government funding I'm assuming we could expect similar, at least state and federal level, potentially minus what we received for Casey redevlopment and the Gotch's paddock resurfacing. Hopefully an announcement not too far away, which I figure will be in the MCG precinct given there is nothing in the Caulfield Racecourse development.

With the Commonwealth Games coming up in 2026 is there potential to tie in any redevelopment with the Games. I read somewhere that they are using regional facilities but not clear if there are plans to use the MCG precinct.

Much simply comes down to the B.OD.

Clubs with enterprising folk think of ideas... follow up and get things happening.

You have to be a bit left fileld...maybe a bit politically opportunistic ( maybe have family in that game ) ...  but mainly you have to be on the front foot...

Or you can be Melbourne

Hawthorn has been willing to leave their ‘traditional’ heartland.  Twice.
I have no love for the Hawks, but they repeatedly make the right decisions for the long term.

We stubbornly want to magically create land in an area that won’t sacrifice an inch of public parklands or remove a single tree.

Hawks are mobile - sent them to Tassie

I actually did a study of their membership base while a maths student at Swinburne uni (commissioned by the hawks) and they had a concentration of supporters in areas near Waverley park. lt wouldn't surprise me if that was the case for Dingley also. 1858 - I suspect more than a few Hawks fans bought at Waverley Park for just that reason - and are probably feeling very [censored] off that they are  moving again.

I haven't been to Gosch's for a training session for a few years now but last time I was there I remember there being a radiologist/imaging business there.  Surely they'd be very popular for the sporting codes training and being based there.

Are there other medical / useful businesses in the proximity that provide useful synergies around remaining there?

I don't particularly care where our training base is located but I would have thought sharing some facilities with soccer/rugby wouldn't be that bad and would ensure the local facility used/shared would always be absolute top class instead of going out on your own in a new greenfield site.

“… Are there other medical / useful businesses in the proximity that provide useful synergies around remaining there? ..”

I misread the word synergies as syringes and immediately thought of The Hangar

Friends in high places always helps DC

We need to remember that the likes of the Cats, Pies, Hawks and Bombers have had a couple of successful eras over the decades.

Success breeds more followers.  Some of those in high / influential positions and the networks around them & down the line as many jump on the band wagon.  Even into and around those who are influential at AFL level & back the other way into the political sphere.

We had 5 decades in the wilderness.

I'll let you join the dots as to who is likely to benefit the most under both scenarios.

We are coming from a long way behind in this regard.

I'd expect Caulfield or the MCG Precinct. I would be very surprised if there wasn't an announcement within the next 6 - 12 months for one of these locations. While our club is subject to the State Government led process, it is well recognised that we have the worst facilities in the league and have received the least amount of Government funding in the league over the past 20+ years, and we are participating in the process in good faith that there will be an outcome at either location.

https://concreteplayground.com/melbourne/travel-leisure/caulfield-racecourse-reserve-looks-set-to-be-revitalised-as-a-public-park-and-recreation-space

The article suggest that Caulfield racecourse has $500 million allocated.

"Back in 2018, the Victorian Government committed $1 million towards developing the strategy and managing the reserve, which is one of the largest open public spaces south of the CBD. The Melbourne Racing Club is putting $285 million towards the precinct's racecourse-related improvements."

I assume the other $215 million is Government.

No mention of MFC.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
