Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Training Ground?

Tenancy agreements are with the MCC not the AFL. Fixturing by the AFL is not associated with where a training base is located.

Regardless, we will lose our meagre admin areas in the MCG when the Southern stand development is started in 2027(? ).  So we need to have something permanent in place before then.

I have zero confidence in that happening  George.

I pass through Caulfield Station several times per week and I see the bulldozers are currently out in force at Caulfield Racecourse! I sincerely hope the MFC Board are not napping and day dreaming of a quality facility in the shadows of the MCG that will probably never see the sunshine. The more I think about it, this Caulfield Racecourse opportunity is potentially a real gift horse [pun intended] 🐴

Certainly is a heap of activity atm at Caulfield. I’m one of the many orange shirted people you will on the site at the moment and thought I’d give an update for all those interested. The current works are focused on the outer side of the track aimed at improving the facilities and experience for spectators, racing staff (jockeys, trainers, admin staff, connections etc) and the horses themselves. Not so much occurring in the inside of the track which is where we would potentially have a base. Will post the odd picture or two for those interested over the coming weeks.

For lots of reasons I really like the idea of this as our base.

Just wondering whether our building of even 2 or 3 levels high would block the view to the 'other' side of the track for spectators etc

Perhaps the idea is that an oval is in the middle and our infrastructure would be outside the track.  One would think if that was the case it would be factored into the build phase and we would know about it.

How do others see it working...?

Luci is back! Hope you had a good Xmas and new year LH 😀

Location wise I love the idea. It's not that far from the precinct and very accessible by car or public transport. Building and planning wise I do wonder how many difficult obstacles like that there would be. I'd have to look into it a bit more, realistically how much of that land would we need for a base?

Would definitely obscure the view. You could probably build a large underground level then a ground level on top which would limit obstruction, but obviously the less stories you have the larger the building footprint. The deeper you go the more expensive the build would be per square meter so not sure what would be the best option.

i believe the idea is to have admin etc and buildings outside the track. apparently all the old stabling area is going so there would be a ton of space. redleg could probably tell you more about that

What is owned by the MRC and what is Crown Land at Caulfield Racecourse. The main training oval (with MCG dimensions) inside the racecourse and perhaps a secondary training oval at Glen Huntly oval with indoor facilities/ administration where the stabling yards are (height of the building/structure is not an issue there).

A great location and a great idea. A few issues to work  through.

The area West of the railway station and North of the course is now high rise apartments. There was parking there initially.

The inside of the course is also parking. Several thousand vehicles park there for Caulfield Spring Carnival Meetings in October. There are two tunnels from the exterior to the interior of the course.   Is underground parking on the cards? That is under the ovals. Of course parking for racegoers could be on the ovals though not ideal.

I am actually quite hopeful about the prospect.

If we cannot get something built in the MCG/Olympic Park/Gosch's Paddock precinct then I am not against this idea at Caulfield Racecourse as a secondary option.

Eitherway, we need to hold the Melbourne Football Club Board accountable and expect to hear an update on our Home Base at the Melbourne Football Club AGM on the 20th of February.

I have no inside knowledge. I have only been to the Caulfield Cup once and sat some Monash University exams at the racecourse many moons ago, however I do pass the area by train regularly. I remember parking for my exams where they new apartment complexes are and doing panic last minute cramming in the car 😁

I suspect that any MFC training facility would be located in the red areas I circed. That is the southern, Glen Huntly end of Caulfield Racecourse, close to Glen Eira Secondary College. Allowing the school some level of access to some facilities may even bring in some decent government funding ... something to think about 🤔

Absolutely. Huge areas where stables were available for development. A low rise grandstand built far in enough from the back of the track, wouldn’t obscure race viewing from the current grandstands.

I'm unfamiliar with the racecourse but I don't understand how a modern training facility could be built in the middle of it. Wouldn't it obscure the other side of the track for racegoers? (Excuse my ignorance, haven't been to the races since I was dragged along to Derby Day circa 2004).

Good point re the school. Facilities there are absolute shyt. No conflict of interest on my part, ofc, though my kids go there. No, no, no.... no conflict of interest at all.

[censored] that I am, the first time I visited I assumed the Glenhuntly oval was attached in some way to the school, ignoring the fact that a rinlgock fence without a gate separated the two. Alas, by the time the penny dropped the kids were in and now have but a [censored] poor parody of a running track to dart about on, though tbh the gym aint bad....

Any case, I'm all in for MFC to Caufield RC. Get it done!

perhaps worth a 'sticky' in this thread, @Demonland?

I'm somewhat ok with this news?

At least they are holding out for a good option, we've heard so many ideas over the years and I want something actually kickass.

I liked the Jolimont Station idea but that seems to have been scratched.

Wouldn't mind kicking Collingwood back to Victoria Park.

Eddie likes to have an opinion about everything. Full of ideas about other AFL Clubs which he has nothing to do with!

While Port Melbourne has it's merits I cannot see that possibility happening unless all other options are exhausted.

If anything Collingwood should leave Olympic Park and move somewhere else and we can bulldoze the Holden Centre and build something a lot nicer. I bet Eddie wouldn't like that idea!

The priority, at this stage, should be something at Gosch's Paddock. Ideally using "Carpark F" and nearby surrounds.

The big issue is the cost of probably $100 million or more.

Anyway, I will not rest until this matter of our Home Base has been rectified. We need to hold the Melbourne Football Club Board accountable for getting this issue finalised!

The cost of the new home ground may be excess of $100 million now but it would have been a lot less if it had been the priority and done 20 years ago. It will also be a lot more in 20 years when they finally get round to doing it.

The cost and availability will increase and decrease over time.

I'm too old to worry about it now and will be long gone in 20 years.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
