Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Please make this happen. It would solve all our problems. A new training ground, space for admin and a social club...and get those ferals far away from us.

PS: Won't happen.

If this is Kate Roffey’s doing to get us a home base close to the G, well she is a genius!!

My quick glance at this years state budget shows nothing about new training facilities for Melbourne  :(

Yeah, I saw that too.

I think we are better off funding it ourselves. We are probably going to need $500 million for a training and home base though..that's going to take a while to save up.... 😔

So nothing for us in the state budget! It is time to forget this dream of a seperate admin next to Goschs and concentrate our efforts and finances on Casey, Goschs and shared facilities at the old Olympic Park area. The rest is a bad dream.

I disagree. As the club grows we will need more room and new facilities.

The other issue which will be raised in the next few years is that when the Shane Warne Stand (Great Southern Stand) is knocked down and re-built, our whole admin area will need to move out.

As the government are the ones financing the knock down of the Shane Warne stand, surely they should be assisting with a new facility to move us too?

Meanwhile, Cats get continual funding from both state & federal governments (all because they are in a marginal seat).

In all seriousness though, we were borne out of the MCC, making us the MCGFC. Why we aren’t allowed to base ourselves at the G is beyond me.

I would love to know the answer to that question as well. Also while we are at it, we should get a cut of all ticket sales for all games played at our home base. 10% should be sufficient.

I am just going on what the previous quoted figures were to build a Home Base for the MFC. I would think $100 million would be enough.

Hawks are spending a bit over $100m on their Dingley one apparently, and that's meant to be pretty amazing, so don't reckon we'd need anywhere near $500m.

You know what I'm going to say.

Whats the cost of sites at Fishermans Bend? Any land there under State Government oversight for community facilities?

Can't see us going there personally. IMO we'll either have a bit of a 'good as it gets' option near the G or we'll have something state of the art out at Casey. Neither is what I'd have top of my wishlist, but I'm resigned to either one of those realistically.

Good thing there's two elections this year. Maybe we can do sausage sizzles at a bunch of different polling booths???

We are all soon or later coming to this view LN. Keep us hanging for long enough and all of a sudden Casey looks a lot better.

Probably me too LN. Just would like to see something that supporters can enjoy before I die.

I admit I haven't made it to Casey yet and not sure it would attract me if I visit Melbourne..

i would include a visit to a dedicated training facility, with indoor and outdoor surfaces, gym, squash court, pool and saunas etc for use of players but also by members of the public with community use at off peak times. Bar, restaurant, and theatre facilities with special attractions for members replays , training viewing area, an opportunity to interact with players etc. Theatres also turn commercial, community entertainment at off peak times. A place to gather and watch away games with a cohort of members.  A venue to watch the grand final for those who can't get or afford the finals ticket prices. With both AFL and AFLW teams having greater profiles we need to accomodate a  larger membership. Would provide an accessible and visible statement that we are inclusive and have scope to grow.

In short a multi function community commercial and retail facility built around a great club.

Don't want to open the can of worms about it again, but I wouldn't expect to see any kind of 'social club' like you're hinting at there. It's just not a sustainable business idea for our football club, and probably most of them really.

I could see us aligning ourselves with a local venue a bit more properly once we've settled somewhere though. Much better to tie in with an existing hospitality business with group buying power, marketing, admin etc. than to try and run one ourselves where the customer demographic is very very small and you'd only expect reasonable trade 1 day a week for 6 months of the year.

This can't be right ...Roffey told us to trust her as she did similar stuff while in tennis ... well, she needs to get this up to leave some sort of legacy, otherwise move on as you told us that you have been the lead at board level to get this off the ground

Thanks again LN I value your comments as from previous I believe you are involved in similar commercial industry, and you are certainly more knowledgeable than me.

i keep suggesting FIshermens Bend as it represents a greenfield site with the potential to develop along the lines you are indicating.

Certainly would require partnerships and alliances. Would provide the sort of long term security that that the Gutnick relationship provided. I'm not normally inclined to support conglomerate organisations preferring specialisation in avcheivingg best outcomes but our football club can benefit from diversification especially as it It is now in the entertainment industry that has a lot greater market than the traditional football club.

i reckon there are enough specialists like you in the demon membership to deliver a viable and sustainable facility.

Although I see all your points regarding Fishermans Bend, it will not happen.

The Demons/AFL/State Gov have invested $3 million into redeveloping Goschs Paddock oval.

They cannot simply move somewhere else after investing that money.

The facilities will be built within walking distance of the new oval. How/When however is anybodys guess...

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
