Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Gosch’s only requires a slight reconfiguration to fit an MCG sized oval, the current multi sport rectangular field areas and plenty of room to replace and even increase the number of trees.

We,  can place two Mcg sized playing surfaces on this site. is a

I have tried it out,  Via Google aerial shots, and paper cutouts.  They fit fairly well.

And with room for buildings, if creativity is used.

Also the other option of building above/across Olympic Boulevarde, is a possibility.

our best option probably remains a rebuild of the richmond train station and the way it works as part of gosch's paddock precinct as well

if niall says we're after state govt money, then that would be the likely option

Agreed, 'wwsw'.

But, building over Olympic Boulevarde just above the Tram catenary,  would not be at the same level/height,  as the Mcg/Tennis Centre concourse's level.

'The Concourse' would be a couple of floors above that which would span over Olympic Boulevarde.

The Deck over Olympic Boulevarde would be the lower floor where there could be a lounge/meeting/forum room,  with glazed doors and windows looking toward Gosch's paddock,  with standing viewing area over looking our main Training Oval.

Above. 'a multi-floor building',  setback from the Boulevarde,  (between the station and Boulevarde),  which could house our Medical Unit, Admin, and Footy Dep't,  as well as a Cafe & Social Facilities and the Demon's shop.   Our retail floor.   And an egress out onto the concourse above Richmond station, and our access to the 'McG'.

Dees shortlist five sites for new home

Yep - it basically talks about how we've earmarked some land next to Richmond station as our potential new home, however it might be hard to do as it isn't that big.

It adds that we are determined to find an inner city location, even if it doesn't end up being the one mentioned above.

It mentions that there are two other car park areas that we have looked at as well.  It doesn't mention other potential spots, although we could apparently build a 'sparkling new facility' at Casey but we aren't keen on that at all.  Getting something 'inner city' is what we are strongly pushing for.

I hope that made sense!

Seems to me the club is hell bent on finding a location that ten years after we move in we will be looking for another location as it’s too small. How about following in Hawthorn’s foot steps and find a spot that in 50 years time will still big enough for both the AFLW and AFL teams.

Aren't Hawthorn looking to move from their current location?

Yes to a massive training base in Dingley, something like 20ha they have there future    well and truly set up. It’s costing them a fortune but it will be worth it.

I don’t get why you’d need a “massive” 20 Ac facility to train a single men and women’s footy team..?
Tech, good equipment, best fitness and coaching staff, enough space for the team to have unimpeded access to gear, etc... but there’s only 44 odd men in training with minimal overlap with the women’s team (which at a pinch could continue to train at Casey).
I think a hi-tech compact facility in center of town is far more attractive (to players we’re courting) and effective than 20 acre in the middle of nowhere. The fact we train along side soccer and rugby teams adds to the energy and potential for innovation...

Bigger and more, is more about the egos at play than the proven benefits of such largess on the performance of the team...

The druggies have supposed fantastic facilities out at Tullamarine with 2 MCG & Docklands Ovals. Look how good that has turned out for them.

The Tiggies on the other hand are squeezed into a small pocket on Punt Rd, look at the damage they are currently doing.

Give me one quality MCG sized surface, that is all that is needed.

Now that would be forward thinking.

Not sure what the fixation is with the MCG precinct given that many teams in various sports have training grounds remote to their competition arenas.

The reality is that we don't have the money to do what the mega teams are doing but I would like to think that wherever we go it is scaleable over time to a level that will compete with the mega complexes.

We'd also need a separate space for rehab group, sprints, etc while match sim is on.

And ideally they have space for the AFLW team to train

If we were to move to the outer suburbs the place would have to be a Mecca. 2 ovals, inside training area, pool etc. Plus the ability to make money from side businesses.

Casey offers the ovals but good luck dealing with a (sacked?) council trying to establish the extra business ventures needed to really sustain it and make it thrive.

If we can nail a set up similar to Collingwood and Richmond then I think we'll be good for at least 20-30 years.

The biggest failing in that set up compared with those clubs is not having a stadium capable of hosting AFLW and VFL.

That's my view @DeeSpencer - send the pies back to Victoria Park (State Govt funded) and move into the Jaguar Centre.

Vic Park was I believe leased to the Pies. When they left there was a spat between the Pies and the local council over the condition of some aspects of the complex. Not sure either party would like a return to the old days.

I think they have their eye on Yarra Bend and/or the land at the back of Clifton Hill that did (or may still have ) the fly fishing ponds.

It is an MFC fixation Shared by a number of members / board members.

They are still stuck in the glory days of over half a century ago.

Why on earth would they want to leave their current set up?

It looks very good to me.

two ovals etc will become the norm for the mega clubs OD. The other problem is that the Olympic pool structure is heritage listed which restricts what you can do there renovation wise.

Pies would definitely be doing the sums ..of course whether they can make it work.... who knows.

What we as a financial basket case often seem to forget is that with the salary cap and the soft salary cap the mega clubs have continuing surpluses that they need to use somehow.

The other area they could be looking at is Thomastown (the old industrial sites) with a view to raising land values by their presence. (No it's not a joke).

The more astute on this site might be able to help me out here but isn't there an MCG sized oval at Fawkner Park. From memory I think it's called Cordner Oval. Easy walk to Sth Yarra Station and straight down Anderson St to the G. Has it ever been mentioned?

The Epping Line (still can't call it the Mernda line) is strong black and white territory as I'm sure you know to your displeasure DZ.

Grew up in Reservoir and even in our glory days there were no MFC jumpers at footy training as I recall it.

There is no way Edie will leave their current setup so close to the 'G'.  They would only do a second setup, with the current setup for matchdays and special occasions. After finals and blockbusters.

If we are going to do this proposed new venue lets do this big and right. We are fixated with training near the G, so how about this.

Involve many stakeholders, spread the money spread the load. The club had a good idea concerning covering Jolimont rail line, but alas the toffs didnt like it. So right idea wrong location.

With assistance and money from the following, MCC, state gov, Melb city council tennis Australia and the federal gov. cover in the rail lines from Richmond station to the Russel street extension.

Metro can redevelop  Richmond station with walks at station height alongside Brutton Av to the over rail line crossover near the AFL members gate. The covering can start as close to the station as possible. Office spaces and gyms etc can be built in this area. MFC can build a new shop at the junction of the station walkway and the tennis crossover near the AFL entrance prime location.

The other interested parties can be lobbied for funds for a number of reasons, our womens team would play on the new oval, thats good for many millions from everybody, covering in the tracks has been mentioned for ever. Good project, state and fed. Houses and shops can be built along the nth. side near Spring St.

The oval can be built East-West as close to the G as possible, full size.

The Councillor is Rob Grinter. Not sure if he is a relative of Rod. My argument is that a strong council would not stand for his dealings in his shop under Accountability and Integrity codes of conduct. There is also an Impartiality code which would seem that you are walking close to. Most councilors have been mayor it seems. Where I live near Elsternwick Park, our ward is conjoined with East Brighton. Why? Its miles away. This means when I walk my dog off leash in Elst park I soon will have to share with a football club building an oval on Parkland where I cant let my dog off leash. Vampires are from East Brighton, no where near us, but very close to where the perennial council members live. They stay on council for about as long as the Castros in Cuba.  We have not had a local onboard and I have watched and petitioned with Bruce Woodley to not lose our dog park. I pay rates. I take a particular interest as 2 ex-school chums of mine have been mayor and other than being on council they dont seem to make much of a mark in society. So it gets up my frock when you say Bayside are clean. Its not black and white its black and grey. I am glad you too, believe the main Elsternwick oval would be a good idea. It is used about 5% of the year.

"Not sure if he is a relative of Rod" do you mean me? No not a relative but have met him at Council functions such as Australia Day, and at the Half Moon.

"There is also an Impartiality code which would seem that you are walking close to." - I'm not on Council and anyway someone who is accused by A Current Affair of dodgy dealings (allegedly) isnt suddenly a criminal. The code you refer to is that in relation to the Local Government Act. I think you are playing bush lawyer here.

"our ward is conjoined with East Brighton. Why? Its miles away." council boundaries aren't decided by council - and anyway how is that evidence of Council being dodgy?

"They stay on council for about as long as the Castros in Cuba. you mean Alex Del Porto - I agree but there should be term limits a State Government matter.

Fundamentally you have assembled your gripes about ward boundaries, long term Councillors and dog off leash parks access to conclude the Council is dodgy. If you still doubt my credentials - ask me about the current Councillors at least 3 of which I served on Council with or know though other Bayside business I do. I am in what was once called Clayton Ward and have played football for the Hampton Rovers - hence my handle.

I think the oval could be a good facility but it would need a lot of work to the surface and the facilities. Another reason for it might be to do with the strong demon supporter base in Bayside. This I conclude from the fans on the Sandy line for game day.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
