Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This would be a huge compromise and not something we should do. We’d clearly just be the crammed in poor cousins to Collingwood.

The entire point of having the club together is for them to be together. Not training on the other side of a stadium.

The access is rubbish. There’s no scope for future development. Where’s the ability to host family days or open trainings? Yet alone the dream of one day getting the same privileges as Richmond and Collingwood to host reserves and women’s games.

This stinks

agreed....it's like turning the backyard dunny into a granny flat

i reckon pea brain morris has confused sw carpark with se carpark......i do hope so

Agree, it is no good for us to be watching the Maggie's do their stuff.

Nor for the Maggie's being watched.

Need to develop the Gosch's side of the stadium.

Unfortunately, the site won't allow me to paste images but i think the best design for the facility would be based on the new Tottenham Hotspur Training Facility. We could have it constructed on the Car Park facing our oval (and not the Collingwood Football Club) and build it up to 5-6 stories tall (with underground parking for the existing Medical Clinics, offices etc)

Based off Google Earth the dimensions of the rectangular Car Park and the area with the shed and storage tanks just to the south of it the building could be 150m long and 40m wide which would be more than enough room for a world class facility!

Main Entrance to Demon Shop / Cafe-Social Club / Offices would be from the AAMI park concourse level.

If i can figure out how to use Sketchup 3D i'll try and come up with a mock design.

I’ll join others in saying that if that little corner ends up being the answer to a problems that we’ve had for decades I will be incredibly disappointed. I really hope that it’s the other car park that we are going to have access to and the facilities will be much more sizeable.

I’m not going to get up in arms over something that is still only conjecture, but if that does end up being our final “home” the club should very rightfully expect some backlash from fans. Particularly when you hear about the practically ever other club getting incredible (and mammoth) facilities built at the expense of the taxpayers. It’s our bloody turn, we have earned it.

As much as I understand we are less likely to receive government handouts due to reasons previously mentioned I would be incredibly disappointed if our home base ends up being in Car Park E. The three options were are Car Park E (In Between Holden Centre and AAMI Park) Car Park F (In between our training oval and AAMI Park) and the empty land across the road from our oval.

Clearly from just looking at my image below, Car Park E is the worst outcome of the three. Although I would be happy if we eventually got our home base we need one that can capitalize from both a marketing and long term point of view.

I hope the recent article released is wrong, the empty land would be my first preference and if not that Car Park F.

Even from an advertisement perspective it would be difficult to get sponsorship for the base as the building will be basically hidden from sight.

Melbourne can do better than Car Park E.

This is very helpful. I understand that the Holden Centre is the old Olympic Pool site which is in the top left-hand corner of the picture. Attached to the original pool building are two smaller buildings. One is in the triangle where Swan St meets Batman Avenue; the other is semi-triangular and adjacent to the Oval and presmuably includes a grandstand. Are they also both part of Collingwood's facilities?

Correct. Technically Melbourne & Olympic Parks own the whole site, however Collingwood are the only tenant of the two buildings connected to the main Collingwood facility. Paralympic committee used to share these facilities but they have since moved out and now Collingwood run the whole area

This is probably not the main item of interest this week, but MOPT has an upcoming tender for the Gosch’s Paddock redevelopment.  Good to see it’s moving.

https://www.tenders.vic.gov.au/tender/view?id=233936

————————

The Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust will soon be inviting offers from suitably qualified and experienced contractors for the Gosch's Paddock Sportsfield Redevelopment.

The Trust will be seeking to appoint a Head Contractor to oversee and deliver the proposed upgrade works below:

  • Remove existing playing surface to a depth of 100mm.
  • Expand the existing field to a size similar to the Marvel/ MCG playing surfaces and extend the existing drainage and irrigation systems to facilitate the larger size field.
  • Upgrade the existing lighting structures.
  • Install a new sand layer and new turf*
  • Upgrade the existing perimeter fence
  • Upgrade camera coverage for both M&OP and the MFC
  • Improve the existing facilities, including but not limited to; access to drinking water and seating for patrons.

*The Trust are currently inviting offers for the turf supply and installation works that will form part of this redevelopment program, refer to RFT12082021

The Open Request for Tender will be released on 9 September 2021 and there will be a mandatory briefing onsite at 10am Monday 13 September. Tenderers will need to register for this briefing once the Request for Tender is released, you do not need to register your interest in advance.

This part seems especially important. We haven't really talked about it much given we've been mostly at Casey for 2 years, but there used to be a lot of talk about the hard surface at Gosch's and it's impact on our soft tissue and foot injuries.

Gary Pert mentioned this issue during his recent interview. Apparently turf surfaces have a life of 10-15 years before going “hard”, and Gosch’s is well beyond this life. So it may have been another benefit to be training at Casey this year

Well its a short term low cost option. It's not worth throwing any large amount of money at.

I would like to see an MFC option that addresses the long term requirement for a sustainable stadium entertainment area for the expanding fishermans bend site.

This are close to existing CBD has the potential for total infrastructure development including private sector investment.

The population demands will be well served by all of the community related facilities that can be included in a well planned and developed sporting ground which will add to the existing stock of world class facilities.

This emerging population will also provide a new membership market as they would be attracted to their local Melbourne club representing them in the National competition. The AFL should be encouraged to join this development to supplement and complement their docklands development.

Build a car tunnel under Punt road from St.kilda Junction to Vic parade or even the eastern freeway, include a few on/off acceses.

Allows for both Gosch's and tiger land to expand.

Will quieten the area and give another main artery into the city as well as connecting the eastern and south eastern freeways.

The traffic jams for vehicles transitting during sport/music events won't occur.

Great in theory, but will never happen.

In this enthralling episode it's time to take a look back at old Melbourne where we focus on an area once collectively known as Yarra, Melbourne & Collective (Olympic/AAMI) Parks (YMCA) district, when it was once a thriving bustling sporting precinct early last century.

In this episode our legendary and most knowledgeable host, TonE , walks us through the entire precinct.  With particular focus on the sacred sporting grounds prior to the abolition of contact sport (2045) and resulting demolition of this former precinct by Australia's largest political party of the time,  Australian Society of Inclusiveness and Conservation (ASIC) in conjunction with other influencers (such as the respected and still functioning local Richmond district's LESMOKAFATONE+),  circa 2048.

Of course now known as the New Flora, Fauna & Fungi (incorporating Injecting Site) Inclusion (NFFFI) District, officially opened over 100 years ago on 5 Nov 2050...See More

Mmmm.  Now remind me, how many relocations did the previous VFL team that last played there have before being sent to Brisbane?  No thanks.

Pretty sure Fitzroy only left Brunswick Street Oval in the 60's because the Cricket Club refused to upgrade the ground and the Footy Club didn't have the means to do it on their own account.

Hopefully some 55 years later with Club and government funding we wouldn't have the same issues Fitzroy did back in the 60's.

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
