Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I wouldn't have thought so, at least, not while we're winning more games than we lose.

Nice pun, by the way.

understand your pov, but i think the effect of winning will work the other way.....it will embolden and increase expectation in supporters

We can only hope dc. MFC members are traditionally a fairly mild lot.

be careful what you ask for....

if this was to eventuate then it would be inevitable that australian rules footy would also be altered such that it wouldn't resemble the game that we currently cherish

Yep, i thought about it before i said it on print, but we really need to do something about Australia's social framework and a fair bit of it centres around acceptable violent clashes in a certain sport and it has a flow on effect into social and criminal activity.

I think it would be a great subject for a "first experience" person to construct a thesis on, but it will probably not happen my lifetime,

meanwhile the Magistrates Courts and others get clogged up with good behaviour bonds and restraining orders.

Are we still training out of the Junction Oval?

The facilities we train out off aren't that much inferior to other clubs that it effects our ability to perform on field.  We have been able to get upgrades at Casey Fields that gives us access to first class indoor facilities and a playing surface the size of MCG.  The indoor and recovery facilities at AAMI are great, we do share these but I don't see that as a big issue, certainly to Storm's performance isn't hindered by sharing with us.  Gosch's paddock oval the surface is great, the size not ideal but really in season training is more about recovery, having access to Casey Fields MCG through pre-season enables the club to really work on set ups on a ground with the dims they will play at.

Appreciate the need to get the club Admin and Footy departments into 1 building that needs to be a priority, but this comment about members going on a warpath is a bit over the top.  I reckon we have got it right with the summer pre-season at Casey and moving back to AAMI/Gosch's for the season.

Also, Dendy Park is looking a little under-utilised: https://goo.gl/maps/EHKPtdoKPThJQC8P8

Its not going to happen.

Nimbyism is alive and well in my neighbourhood.

It would be good in terms supporters - fair number of Melb fans in the neighbourhood who were once well served when we were with Sandy at the Trevor Barker Reserve. Salem, Brayshaw Hunt Petracca and others have connections to the neighbourhood. Gawny played for Ormond I think.

With what Gawn said about Casey being a better replica of the G think everything old is new again and Casey is back in favour.

  • the club, the board and ceo have publicly stated it is a high club priority
  • they have been saying this for some years
  • judging on demonland the membership is also very vocal
  • when a decision is made it will still take a few years to implement
  • every year of delay the options diminish and the cost rises

i agree we have coped reasonably well with the combination of casey/aaami/mcg but the current situation is sub optimal and is not a long term solution. the club has been in review mode for years with no solution announced.

That would go without saying, I'd be stunned if we weren't trying to incorporate something like that into any new facilities

Govts aren't willing to just hand money over to pro footy club's but if the money will help build facilities with community benefit (like Richmond's indigenous centre, Saints mental health centre, or AFLW facilities) it's an easier sell to their constituents and the media.

Perhaps i was thinking too literally on community.  What community does Goschs paddock serve in its current form?  I dont think I have even seen a dog walker.  Punt road murders access.

personally I think the MFC winning the GF would be great for the community at large but what would I know....

Does beating Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon, Richmond and Geelong count as a community benefit?

On the 20th May in one of the many media releases from the state budget, this appeared :

Funding is provided and held in central contingency for a range of AFL/AFLW and VFL infrastructure and community projects including Gosch’s Paddock upgrade (Melbourne FC), Kennedy Community Centre Dingley (Hawthorn FC) and Downer Oval (Williamstown Seagulls FC). Release of funds from contingency will be subject to finalisation of project scopes and funding profiles, and decisions regarding AFLW expansion.

Essentially a feasibility and scope study for Goschs.

Note : just because funds have been allocated does not mean they will ever be released.

  • 2 weeks later...

I certainly couldn't ask for a PM of the article, but maybe a summary, of sufficient detail, could be interesting.

Without reading it I maintain there's enough space at Gosch's for an MCG sized oval and a soccer pitch. It just needs some space reconfiguring and some trees replanted.

Oh yeah, and some facilities.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
