Be good to take the train the Jolimont, walk up the ramp and take a short stroll to watch the lads during training. Gosch's Paddock is a bit out of the way if you want to catch a training session.

Having the MFC facilities visible from the Northern side of the MCG would also drive up member numbers. Would always be visible when we are not playing at the G, a Red and Blue building is great advertising.

Was during State Election and Labor still wanted Green votes. The Greens, Ellen Sandell was against the Jolimont idea.

Thank-you Young William. I was unaware that the initial push for an MFC home at Jolimont (Yarra Park) in 2018 coincided with the Victorian State Election and subsequent political shenanigans. How unfortunate. The next Victorian State Election is set in stone for Saturday 26 November 2022. Much has surely changed politically since then, especially since 2020 and CoVid. That gives 19 months before the next Victorian State Election. A large window for advocates of an MFC home at Jolimont (Yarra Park) to again push their case prior to another electoral "interference". In holding fast to what we want, (Melbourne Football Club Home @ Jolimont (Yarra Park)), we would do well to remember the words of William Edward Hickson:"...If at first you don't succeed, try, try and try again".

Going against the grain again, but I find the club and many supporters stubborn fixation the the MCG precinct to be counterproductive.

West Coast, Fremantle, Brisbane, Hawthorn, Collingwood, Essendon, have all moved away from their heartlands in order to give their clubs room to grow.  We don’t even have a place at traditional home and we still refuse to move.

Any available land that we can secure in Richmond, Jolimont, etc. will be very small, with next to no room for expansion.  I’m genuinely concerned that, by the time we have it built, we’ll be looking for a bigger base again in 20 years.

Demographically speaking, the number of Melbourne supporters who have any recollection of the MCG being our base is slipping into a minority.  It doesn’t hold the nostalgia to young people that it does for those who saw our last premiership.

When you see the space West Coast have and Hawthorn are planning to build, it paints a scary picture of future inequality.  The longer we leave the acquisition of significant land, the worse things will be for us.

Some of us have realised this for years.

TBH if Casey were 25kms closer to the CBD it would definitely be the place.

I am sure Collingwood is looking closely at a move.

The problem is that these days there's not much space even in that 25km ring. Mind you there's a lot more than in Yarra Park

Jolimont will and would never work.  It is in a Public park.  Goschs at least is not.  

The Jolimont proposal would have required levelling an area greater than the Great Pyramid in Egypt.  It would not have been allowed a fence.  The building for gym and admin would have had to be built over railway lines.  

And at the end of the day it would have been second rate, because there is not enough space for a facility which is the standard for today.  Have a look what WCE, Hawthorn, Sydney, Essendon, Adelaide etc have both now and planned. 

And this is the big concern with Gosch's....it is limited in what can be done in the available space.

It would be a big ask, but I’d house a multi-storey facility at the intersection of Punt Road and Olympic Boulevard, making the latter an underpass & constructing a large concourse (similar to AAMI) over Olympic Boulevard and across to Gosch’s that links in with access & egress to Richmond station. Cafe on the concourse level to catch the foot traffic funnelled through there; players gym, pool & training facilities on lower levels along with community offerings (key to funding); office levels above, rooftop bar/function venue to take advantage of training/city views.

Massive outlay involved. Can we sign up to a super league for the cash injection?

fwiw, max in a recent interview talked about what a difference training at casey over gosch's has made to setting up defensive structures

the players previously 'felt' that they were set up okay based on their defensive set-up and patterns with regards to the way they would set up at gosch's and the space they would have to defend

it was only once they went out to casey and a 'full size' ground akin to the mcg that they realised how much space they were leaving open with their previous set-ups

I read in an article a few weeks ago that Melbourne's biggest supporter base is located in Glen Iris. Could it be a viable option to set up a home base there in our supporter heartland? Plenty of parks and open spaces to be utilised if a Plan C or D is required.

Move back the the Junction Oval.  We stopped training there in 2008 , right when things went to hell for us.

We made our last two grand Finals with that place as our training base and the facilities sucked then, surely they are upgraded by now.

Glen Iris is the  population "centre" of Melbourne or, at least, it was in 2017.

In case the article is paywalled, it says, "Melbourne's population centre has moved, too, but it's only shifted 1½ kilometres west within the City of Glen Iris from a block of units in Park Road to a hardware store on Weir Street." (Coincidentally, that hardware store is Tait's which used to advertise regularly on 3AW's football program.)

The centre wouldn't have moved much since then. It would be a bit difficult for the players and staff to complain about travel times. However, land would likely be too expensive to allocate for a AFL standard training venue.

Genuine question, why does it matter where our 'support base' is statistically geographically located or where the 'population' centre is? There's only ever a handful of people who go to training, it's not exactly a big attraction. You don't all of a sudden start getting fans because of where your home base is, just ask GWS and GC. Winning does that.

We have the family day at Yarra Park, a social club is a terrible idea, I don't really understand the preoccupation with making our training base a good location for supporters? Way more important that it's a good location for attracting players and staff I would think.
